didnt you ask this before?
we have doctors here, pharmacists who are qualified and can help you with your allergies....
are you finding it hard to accept the answers? No, South Africa isnt a jungle short of every man made/produced resource you may need! Malaria? Thats a myth in South Africa... especially Cape Town (CT isnt a jungle)

Cape Town is not a malaria zone.
Be more concerned with getting raped, sodomised, murdered, kidnapped, mugged at gunpoint or being attacked by a great white off Camps Bay.

PdT
You have a much better chance of catching it in NYC than Cape town. I have spent time in both and CT is much cleaner.

MERCAYDEES
Hi Riegirl

Mercaydees here again

If you go to visit a country you need to make sure you know everything there is to know about your safety escpecially if your 8 weeks pregnant.

The chances of you getting Malaria however, is EXTREMELY SLIM!!!!!! - probably 000.0000000%

Cape Town is not a small little african city - Its THEEE most happening city (i happen to think) In the whole of Africa!

Heres a little something for you - if you wanna dine out in Cape Town go to this website
ps: i suggest you go to Greens in Kloof Street its a nice restaruant or you could go to Rafikies in Park Rd - Gardens

www.dining-OUT.co.za

Good luck & enjoy your stay!

There's NO malaria in Cape Town. You will also not have any problem with allergies. We are going into Autumn now, so there are no pollen in the air. This is the best time to visit Cape Town. Enjoy your stay!

Zero. The malaria zone is a very small area in the North East of the country, on the border of Mozambique.

However do get lots of advice about keeping safe and out of crimes way while you are there. Not to scare you, but you should be aware of all dangers before you go.
Good luck and enjoy.

Just though I'd add my 5 cents worth to this lot - and really, non but its not something that you should ask, it shows your total ignorance to the place you are visiting - the most basic guide book will tell you this.

Allergies are another matter, depends on the time of year you are traveling to Cape Town, spring could be a disastrous time for you there (and since you probably don't know, spring is September ish - in Cape Town)

this begs answering your question with another...

are you a complete airhead who believes that the metropolitan city of cape town is a malaria zone, or can you not go onto www.who.org/malaria zones and see that south africa has the LOWEST RATE OF MALARIA INFECTIONS OF ANY AFRICAN COUNTRY!!

you did not ask a question, you painted a "i'm blonde" poster on your head.

Absolutely no chance at all, theres never been cases of malaria down there, its only close to the Mozambique border that theres a chance.

ElOsoBravo
Just about nil. However, if it would assuage your conscience, to any degree, go ahead and have one.

None, so don't worry. There might be mosquitoes, but malaria you only get up north.

As to allergy enablers, if you mean pollen, you won't have a problem this time of the year. Also, South African doctors are known to be of the best trained medical people in the world, so you'll be in safe hands if you should need to seek medical assistance.

Hope you have a good time!

Nil.
Malaria is found in the nort=east and northern sub-tropical areas.

this is not even worth answering....thought I'd seen and heard it all. Malaria in Cape Town? haaibo

You have a better chance of getting mugged or murdered

You stand more chance of falling off Table Mountain (hope you don't!) than catching Malaria in Cape Town. Just a question have you advised the airline you are flying with that you are pregnant? They now wish to be advised in case there are any complications on board. (I work for a South Africa Tour Operator in the UK) Stay clear of the Kruger area in the summer time (Nov - Mar) and you will be fine in terms of malaria. Hope this helps.
