I think Jeddah is beautiful as is Al Khobar. I also really liked Al Hasa and the area around it. I visited the camel market was amazed by its beauty and authenticity. Mekkah, is amazing I have been told, however non Muslims are not permitted to enter the city.

As a women there you should have an abaya with you. I was there as part of a work/study tour and we had to wear them at all times.

Also please be careful when taking pictures. You should not take pictures of Mosques or women. If you want to take a picture you should first ask. I hope you are able to go, and I hope you enjoy your visit.

I found KSA to be a beautiful nation with kind, generous and friendly people.

If you can only visit one place in Saudi Arabia, make it Madain Saleh, which rises up from the sands in a landscape of rare beauty. Madain Saleh is home to 131 tombs, 45 of which carry inscriptions in late Aramaic script above the doors. A permit is required but most hotels and tour operators can arrange one if you fax them your details a week in advance.

The Nabataeans, who carved the astonishing city of Petra (in Jordan) chose Madain Saleh as their second city. Although the tombs are less spectacular here than those in Petra, the landscape of sweeping sand and wonderful rock formations is stunningly beautiful. The tombs are also in an excellent state of preservation, due largely to the fact that the local stone is much harder than that found at Petra.

Kabah, of course.

If you're Muslim, then obviously you can do no better than the two holy cities of Medina and Mecca. (If you're not Muslim, do not go - non-Muslims aren't allowed there)

I've heard Abha is a great place to visit because it is in the mountains in the South, quite close to the Yemeni border, so the scenery is awesome and the Summer climate bearable.

If you can get into the desert, it's an amazing experience. Especially the Rub Al Kali (Empty Quarter), which is in the South East corner of the country, bordering the UAE. Plenty of Westerners go there at the weekend from Khobar and Dhahran in these big 4x4s. Your best bet is to get in touch with someone who works for Aramco or BAe.

The Oasis at Al Ahsa, which the locals claim is the largest in the world, is also worth a visit. It's one of the best places to buy Saudi dates too, which are delicious.

Saudi isn't nearly as difficult to live in as many Westerners think. If you use your common sense, there is nothing to worry about. Most people you come into contact with in shops are Indians, Philippinos, Bangladeshis and other Arabs.

Saudis are extremely friendly and hospitable to Westerners, but the men will take their chances with a pretty Western woman given half the chance, so be careful there!

the kaaba in Mecca is the most spectacular famous site but nonMuslims are forbidden to enter that city

First of course, is Madain Saleh.

And the desert caves.

In Riyadh, be sure to check out the King Abdul Aziz museum, Masmak fort, Faisaliah and Kingdom towers.
Check out the sand dunes outside Riyadh, especially near Thumamah road. The desert is very beautiful after the rains.

Check out his photos, they're amazing.

In Jeddah, the fountain, the Balad market area, and the city of Ta'if via the Hada road if possible(open mountain road, great views).

In Dammam/Khobar, theres the King Fahd causeway connecting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

And you can browse this site for any other locations :)

I think Al-Khobar (my city) is the most liberal.. At least its very westernized due to all the Americans living there since ARamco opened some 50years ago. The girls now have started a trend of not even wearing abayas. They just wear concervative non revealing clothes with a sweet little scarf (like you might see in a hollywood movie)... Its very open nowadays.. Shopping is wonderful here.. Everyone or most everyone speaks english... Its a hop skip and jump over to Bahrain for a weekend also..

ABDUL R
well the first one is mekkkah and then the Medina

Riyadh its the one most liberal of the cities, even though conservative to the extreme. Its very modern.

Jeddah is beautiful too. its a crossroad from Africa to the middle east. This city has many foreigners its easy to get around. This one is the most Liberal of them all in Saudi Arabia.

but if you are looking for something new go to Mecca, to see the Kaaba.

Arif

Well if your Muslim go to Mecca and Medina. If not Muslim you can't go there without getting arrested and deported. Go to Jeddah. Stay away from Riyadh as that city is too crowded and full of idiots.

spazmodicalate
one suggestion don't go!
