Many people said turbans, but I am afraid its not true.Only very few ultraconservative muslims wear turbans. Turbans are more universal in the religion of Sikhism.

unfortunately, for some people it means: killing, blood, and murderers.

other people - who are not narrow minded, they know the difference between Muslim & people who kill other under the flag of islam.
I think Muslims must let people understand that Islam is about peace not killing.

Well for me, it tends to bring up an image of a Mosque and a man praying, on a carpet.
Then I think of the religion, the culture and what I have learned about the people who are Muslim.
MUSLIM / Islamic culture has contributed many wonderful things to the World.

I generally have a positive impression of "Muslim" people and the Culture that surrounds it.

I think that negative "stereotypes" of any Group, Religion, Culture or Race are designed or promoted to instill fear.
Stereotyping is a tool of Propagandists.
They appeal to those who are a Low Brow, intellectually Lazy and are used as a way to Justify act's that are unethical and dangerous.

when i was a kid i used to think that Islam is a religion, muslims are radical and like a gang group who can kill anyone. when i was in my highschool year i used to think that muslims always involved in violence & terrorism as i watch, hear & read in the news everyday. now that i am working here in saudi, i realized that there are good and bad muslims, just like any other religion in the world, there are traditional muslims, conservative muslims just like saudis, modern muslim, and the notorious radical muslims who interpret the teachings of Kuran in a literal and evil ways. theyre usually involved in terrorist activities. when i watched the short danish film FITNA, it shows mostly the radical muslims acts and teachings which really made me question is Kuran really teaches violence and persecution instead of peace and forgiveness like the Holy Bible says? i am still looking and hoping for a positive answer to your question nowadays!

lol many people have said turban......turbans is a dress code for people from countries such as Afghanistan...however Muslims can be from any race or culture so you can get Muslims in a tie...as for what I think....people that follow the great religion of GOD

What a wonderful question! Very thought provoking for me.

My first thought was terrorist. Followed by murderers, cowards, brutal sub-humans, etc. you get the picture.

Then I stopped and said, NO ! that is a terrible way to think. I know some Muslims who are kind, gentile, good people. Why whould I think bad of their religion?

This started a long thought process for me. The answer is simple. There has been so much hurt caused by Muslim fanatics. Currently, the primary terrorists in the world are on the behalf of Muslim bases causes. We tend to lump all Muslims into this one group that includes the fanatics. That is not fair, but it is human nature to think that way.

We also see things that we consider unspeakable acts of barbaric behavior done by even less fanatic Muslims. Part of it is cultural. We think of "female genital mutilation" as being barbaric. Those who practice it think it is very acceptable.

We see kidnapings of reporters, civilians, and even soldiers as barbaric. The other side sees them as acceptable ways of accomplishing their goals.

In short, we see the "bad" Muslims and assume they are all like that. It isn't true, but we think that way.

I once discussed a specific topic with a co-worker who was Muslim, from the Middle East. He thinks it is proper to kill the leader of a group simply because that leader will not force his followers to convert to the Muslim religion. Most of us in the "Western world" consider that to be murderous and barbaric. He couldn't understand our position and we couldn't accept his.

To this day, I can't understand how you can consider a religion to be peacefull, beautiful, pious, etc. when they openly advocate murdering anyone who doesn't agree with them. In my mind that is the opposite of those traits and is a totally hate filled religion.

As a "Westerner," I also abhor the treatment of women that too often happens in Muslim countries. We find it shamefull. We consider stoning someone to be barbaric. Same with the "honor killings" and a lot of similar things.

We look back on our heritage as a civilization. Many hundreds of years ago, we did so of these same things. We have progressed, as a society, over hundreds of years. We now know they are very wrong and we were wrong to do them.

Muslim countries still do them. We equate that to those countries NOT having progressed, socititally. We see some aspects of some Muslim countries as stuck in the 1500's. We equate that with a lack of intellegence. Right or wrong, that is the association.

There are also negative feelings toward some Muslim countries who are spending trillions of dollars on luxuries for the leaders while the citizens live in poverty. That is another mark of a country that is not high enough on the civilization ladder. Indoor ice and snow resort in the middle of a desert?

We think the Muslims hate the Jews because of who the Jews are. We think we hate Muslims because of what the Muslims are doing. The first is racism, the second is being realistic.

By the way, failing to capitalize the word Muslim is considered an insult by those who speak English as their first language. I'm sure you didn't know that, please capitalize it in the future. Thank you.
