the national currency in egypt is the POUND
1 pound = 100 piasters
u can get some cashes with u in some accepted currencies and change it in any bank , remember that banks out airport have better rates than inside airport so dont change much in airport
the most accepted currencies to change in banks :
1US$ = 5.71 EGYPT POUND
1 EURO = 7.42 EGY. POUND
1 GBP = 11.12 EGY.POUND
100 JAPAN YEN = 4.70 EGY POUND
1 SWITHERLAND FRANC = 4.55 EGY. POUND
CANADA AND AUSTRALIA DOLLARS are accepted also but i dont know how much are .
remeber that u cant use these currencies in shops or hotels
except US$ & EURO THEY ARE ACCEPTED IN SOME HOTELS AND SHOPS
some hotels accept ONLY EURO

I agree with the others, save that the basic unit of currency (ie equivalent to the US cent or British pence) is the 'piaster', which given the weakness of the Egyptian pound, is so valueless that beggars will often refuse them or at best sneer when given them. |
