I keep everything under 50 cents in a container on top of the microwave and every couple of weeks I take my son to the Botanical Gardens in Pretoria where he throws them in to the wishing pond at the bottom of the waterfall and makes wishes for a pet dolphin etc, keeps him busy which suits me. |

I save it every month and then it becomes my cigarette money for the next month. I buy my ciggies from a vending machine that takes coins. |

Our silver coins (R1 and R2) we give to our daughter for her piggy bank and the rest of the copper crap we put in a jar that is hidden in our cupboard. We counted all our coppers about a week ago and got R350 which we exchanged for notes at the bank. |

Damn! thats is a very important question. Honestly, i dont know what i actually do with small change. I will have to adopt what you guys do. It might come in handy for R50 to R80 petrol.

I earn so little that I spend every cent, no bottles filled with treasure in my house. |

Just like you i fill up a jar with the useless coins in my wallet and everybody elses. I have been sent a piggy bank by the RSPCA that i fill and when it is full my husband writes out a cheque and sends it to them. There's our good deed done. I also take quite a bit of change with me and at our local park there is a wall with a slot in it i usually throw quite a few coins in there because we are so grateful for having the park to walk in with our dogs.:) |

I make sure that I never sit with small change. I get rid of it as soon as I can. I keep a small amount of change in my car for tipping the car guards and so on. I hate small change so the best in my opinion is to spent them as soon as possible. |

Collect it and give it to car gaurds and beggars.
Edit: Tsepo - Thought you might be able to relate to this one - I always measure how good my night out drinking was by the amount of small change in my pocket. |

Every night, I empty my pockets in a little jar with all these little red useless coins (I'm living in the € zone )
From time to time, I change them into a 5€ bill and give it to my nephew when he's good at school !! |

I have gone to the bank and gotten coin wrappers and wrapped up small change, you take them back to the bank, they give you paper. I think the last time I did it I got about $100 back--not a bad way to make a spare $100--wrapping coins while doing something mindless like watching a TV show. |

Don't break into notes if you have change in your purse.
If you have bags of change you are not being careful and thrifty. My guess is you are someone who grabs a note for everything instead of buying stuff with your change.
You'll save money if you keep your notes as long as possible and turn them over before breaking them into change.
I don't ask questions because no one would answer mine! |

I just go into any shop and get the small change exchanged for larger change. example 1p's & 2ps -- 10p coins
10p coints to 50p.
50p to £1 / £2 coins |
