I just chocked on my tea reading this answers , amazing , no as BB said scary....I was dissapointed to see that no-one mentioned the lions and other wild animals that roam the streets....

Generates like half the wealth in the continent/has the biggest market. One of Africa's most developed nations, along with Botswana and Namibia. Along with blacks, there are alot of whites and immigrants from India. Cities include Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, Bloemfontein. And South Africa is not Muslim, as a previous answer may lead you to believe. Most people are Christians, and alot of people that are irreligious or believe in various African religions.

The sad thing about the answers from people that are not South African, is that it just goes to show how South Africa is portrayed in other countries.

And yes zxcv, I'm also surprised nobody mentioned the wild animals that roam the streets. :P

breathtaking views everywhere - this after my SA man gave me a tourist guide/ brochure about SA....it makes me wonder why people aren't in "not-so" good terms. I mean the government. Its a waste to waste a beautiful nature because apparently a lot of native SA's leave the country for good.

South Africa was once the beacon of light for the African continent, a true gem amongst ashes when ruled efficiently and benevolently by minority white rule.
Sadly, the country was forcefully handed over to a communist collection of thugs and kleptomaniacs in 1994, primarily due to the lies and deceit that were spread by the Marxist ANC in the west together with the idealist attitude towards Africa by the worlds ignorant liberal fools.
Since 1994 S.A. has deteriorated into a third world hell hole where blatant and oppressive racism is openly practiced against the countries minority groups who are the only productive and civilised members of that society, ie EE, BEE, AA, sports quotas, openly practised and government supported genocide against white farmers, etc.
Crime has spiralled out of control and S.A. has murder rates comparable to war torn regions such as Iraq and Sudan, the rape of infants and the elderly is common, the country officially has the highest incidence and percentage of rapes worldwide, electricity supply is non existent and the country will soon truly be a member of the dark continent, all infrastructure is in rapid decay and are showing signs of accelerating decay.
Under the communist ANC, S.A. counts as its allies, Cuba, China, Russia, Zimbabwe, Iran and the thug Palestinians.
The future seems even more daunting when considering the election of known communists, racists and criminals to the ANC's NWC recently and the election of an illiterate rapist fraudster as the countries future leader, ie, Jacob Zuma, the primary school drop out sheep herder and professional terrorist who will be Africa's next despot in training.
The future seems rosy when considering that it is evidenced throughout history that Africans are incapable of self governance, always choosing to resort to primitiveness and savagery, we are now observing S.A. repeat all the same mistakes in the name of liberation and we are entrenched on the road to third world poverty, pestilence and corruption much like our neighbour to the north.
Many have fled and many more are hot on their trails, the brain drain has already crippled S.A.'s future prospects of any meaningfull economic growth and the resultant lack of productivity caused thereby together with AA and BEE where inept individuals are placed in positions of strategic importance, guarantees a future meltdown in S.A.'s economy.
The options are simple, emigrate to civilistion or remain in the cesspit of S.A. to suffer and starve along with the natives while they fulfill their majority rule destiny.

There is a British colony in South Africa, though I do not know where.

People who live in South africa such as Ethiopia are starving to death because of inability to sustain water supplies.
They are also fighting war even though they are starving.

I love Africans, but I would not sleep with one, not because I am racist, because the Aids rate is just to high to know for sure.

I believe that they are muslums mostly, and that they are very hard workers.

Some of them are the best runners in the world. This is because of all the running in the sand that they have to do.

The Republic of South Africa (also known by other official names) is a country located at the southern tip of Africa. The laws that defined apartheid began to be repealed or abolished by the National Party in 1990, after a long and sometimes violent struggle (including economic sanctions from the international community) by the Black majority as well as many White, Coloured, and Indian South Africans[citation needed].

Several philosophies and ideologies have developed in South Africa, including ubuntu (the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity) and Jan Smuts's holism.

Regular elections have been held for almost a century; but the majority of South Africans were not enfranchised until 1994.

South Africa is often called the "Rainbow Nation", a term coined by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and later adopted by then President Nelson Mandela. Mandela used the term "Rainbow Nation" as a metaphor to describe the country's newly developing multicultural diversity after segregationist apartheid ideology. The country's socially progressive policies are rare in Africa, for example, by 2007, the country had joined Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, and Spain in legalizing same-sex marriage
