All wars in this world are wars of politics (profit, land, oil, control), but they are blamed on religion, why? because when they blame them on religion they induce yet more hate and more war. Peace!

Yes, religion brings up ancient laws and disputes that no longer apply.

diana
yes because people always grow and develop and ancient laws and traditions remain "ancient"

Yes it would but my understanding of Islam is that politics , law & religion are all bundled together.

One of the basic tenets of our democracy is the separation of powers .....this is specifically to avoid the possibility of these three elements coming under the jurisdiction of some power crazy individual.

Tell me there is such separation in reality in any fundamentalist controlled Arab nation .

Urooj
Yes Indeed. If religion is not involved, the real problems will be in front and can be focused on. For example what we call Muslim terrorism is related to social unrest, class struggle, and lack of democracy in the region. Religion is a way for the people to express themselves, and they feel more comfortable that way, and history tells us that whenever there were movements of mass uprising and revolt in the Middle East, for example Sabai; they always were clad in some kind of religious or mythical form, that way their leaders make themselves more comfortable and acceptable by the masses.
Listen to any of the so-called Muslim fundamentalist or radical leader, and you will know that what lies beneath is a complaint and resistance against the system, if these problems can be resolved, if there could be real democracy(not that of Egypt and Syria), if there can be health services and education for all, if the difference between classes can be reduced, if the people are allowed to live in peace, we will witness that there will not be any more terrorism or terrorists.

Psycee
YES YES YES Life in general would be better if religion evaporated. All that we have to know is here and now. You know what is good and what is evil, choose which you are going to support and do so. Religion is big brother telling you what is right and what is wrong. I don't consider my-self stupid enough to have to be told murder is wrong. Besides all the LAW is - is our self proclaimed religion, just easier to accept. The law sets standards for us to live by and we do so, and finally religion is now falling to the background. Religion is simply the parent we don't need anymore, now that man has evolved into a society. As for politics, that would be how society progresses equally. Although the opposite of progress is congress.

tal
Yes , but depends where you living .Isamic states where religion controls the goverment all you get is chaos. In the west there is no chaos Christian morals do not interfear with day to day governing.

My opinion is that religion SHOULD NOT be part of politics.
Religion complicates politics it brings differences that can't be negotiated it ruins most of the political Ideas, and usually causes wars that are in a view to the past very unnessecary.. as we all know, Europe and Asia had religious wars which eventually stopped when the sides had fed up of wars all day.

Most people would say yes, and on the surface it appears to be correct, but it is in fact absolutely abhorrent to me.
I can speak only of Judaism as that is what I know, but Judaism is a religion of social justice. The purpose of the religion is to provide us with a moral code - teach us what's right and what's wrong. I can only hope that any politician who is making a decision is doing so based on right and wrong, and that's why I say religion must be involved. Many people would argue that the law decides what is right and what is wrong and that decisions should be made based on law. To that I respond that law is religion, without people realizing it. Laws are not obvious; in the west, the laws are clear derivatives of Judeo-Christian values which quite logically are derivatives of religion. People don't realize that laws are not obvious; in some cultures, it is completely ok to murder someone if they have murdered a family member. There is no reason to say this is illegal, other than that religion and hence culture deems otherwise.
In short, I think politicians should make moral decisions, and so I say religion should be involved as the source of morality.

Politicians have always used religion to further their own ends and divert attention from their own misdeeds.
As it usually serves their purpose nothing is likely to change, just check world history as far back as you wish to go.

But nevertheless I agree it would be better if they were apart.

Religion is supposed to be a number of people who share the same spirituality, not a social club or political party. Our country was founded upon Christian principles. Whether my leaders are Christian or not is a very big concern to me because I care where my leaders get their guidance and spiritual discipline from.

I personally prefer a secular state than any other states

A secular state is a state or country that is officially neutral in matters of religion, neither supporting nor opposing any particular religious beliefs or practices. A secular state also treats all its citizens equally regardless of religion, and does not give preferential treatment for a citizen from a particular religion over other religions. Most often it has no state religion or equivalent. If there is a state religion, this should have only a symbolic meaning, not affecting the ordinary life of its citizens, and especially not making any distinction based on someone's religion.

A secular state is defined as protecting freedom of religion as pursued in state secularism. It is also described to be a state that prevents religion from interfering with state affairs, and prevents religion from controlling government or exercising political power. Laws protect each individual including religious minorities from discrimination on the basis of religion.

A secular state is not an atheistic state (e.g. Albania under Enver Hoxha), in which the state officially opposes all religious beliefs and practices. In some secular states, there can be a huge majority religion in the population (e.g. Turkey) and in others there may be great religious diversity (e.g. India). Secular states become secular either upon establishment of the state (e.g. United States) or upon secularization of the state (e.g. France). Movements for laïcité in France and for the separation of church and state in the United States of America began the evolution of the present secular states. Historically, the process of secularizing states typically involves granting religious freedom, disestablishing state religions, stopping public funds to be used for a religion, freeing the legal system from religious control, opening up the education system, tolerating citizens who change religion, and allowing political leadership to come to power regardless of religious beliefs. Public holidays that were originally religious holidays and other traditions are not necessarily affected, and public institutions become safe from being used and abused by religion.

The religious sector should NOT bring in politics. "That" is the "problem"

but, yes "politics" could and should, bring in alittle more religion.

No, because then people have hidden agendas. Politicians should be more open with thier beliefs and how it influences policy. Just look at Romney, religion obviously influences many of his policies. But when people bring up his religion to decide whether or not they want to vote for him, all of a sudden it's a different story. Like they are saying 'how dare you' to judge a person on the whole, which of course thier religion is part of.

UltraN
Try as you might, you will never separate religion from politics
