Let's first discuss together the anatomy of this amputated part in the female external genitalia which is here in Egypt only the "clitoris".In some areas and countries they cut both the libia majora and minora, and suture them in the Sudanese circumcision.
Clitoris : a cavernous erectile tissue attached to pubis , formed of 2 corpora cavernosa forming its body and ending anteriorly by the glans.
So for medical students who studied embryology and anatomy , this part resembles in its anatomical structure the penis in the male , so cutting this part in the female is as cutting the penis in the male.

The WHO changed the term from female circumcision to female genital mutilation which is more accurate.
This bloody barbaric habit has effects on the long run for the female which is psychological trauma , sexual frigidity , scars and others.
The Hadiths mentioned about this habit were very weak and there was no pure evidence that the prophet circumcised his girls !
This bloody habit is practised against women here as a kind of obression and deprivation of her sexual rights of reaching her orgasm with her husband thinking by that way she will never fornicate, while actually sex is in mind not in this cut part!
bottom line ; I am against this bloody barbaric habit and I am fighting it with all means , and even if it was Islamic , I will NEVER ever practise it !

that good question was asked before and here is my answer:

it has many effects physically and emotionally on the girl....
if i can get you a close image, imagine this horrible experience for a girl so she will always attach this awful feeling and pain with that sacred area...so imagine her with her husband after years of that act....u can see what may happen, because that memory is stuck in her head......

if ppl follow Islam and know their religion well they would know that's not an Islamic tradition,it's an old pharohnic one,and a great proof that the prophet himself didn't apply it on any of his daughters.....

this act is a result of ignorance, because controlling sexual desires have nothing to do with the body,it's in the mind and heart...mind by great manners and raising the children in a good way and heart by making them closer to God and knowing their religion so they won't busy thinking at these things....
and alhamdulelah finally "dar al-efta'" issued the fatwa that it is forbidden completely after the girl "bodoor" died through this operation, and to send every doctor who performs these operation to jail and deprive him of his license.....

If God didn't want you to have it he wouldn't have given it to you, it is only used to control women what would men say if you cut off their genitles

it is unhuman...because not only is it a terrifing experience but they take away something that god gave women to give the pleasure as well as he gave men, it is as if they think god's creation is deformed and they're fixing it. by torturing girls and future women for the rest of their lives

I hear it hurts MORE than when it is done to male babies, and I am against it--for females.

I'm not Arabic, but here's my opinion. It shouldn't be forced, but should be the woman's choice.

CoolDude
I wish for all the world people would stop referring to it as "circumcision". It's castration and mutilation as performed on girls and has nothing whatever to do with male circumcision. It involves cutting off her inner vaginal lips and cutting out her clitoris for the sole purpose of reducing her ability to enjoy sexual stimulation by about 90%. It's the equivalent of cutting off 3/4 of a man's penis. And it's done at the onset of puberty, so that she know exactly what's being done to her and what she's losing. It's heinous and barbaric.

Of course it's wrong, disgusting, sickening and inhuman. It's part of a philosophy and culture that regards women as slaves while pretending to hold them in high esteem.

Do you know that women can die from female circumcision. There are many other country's that preform circumcisions on women and it is wrong. There are many tribes in Africa that do this very thing also. Number one it is mutilation, and number two it is taking the female sexual organ away that God intended women to have. Can you imagine going through your sexual life not being able to have an orgasm or feel anything during sex. There has been a lot on TV about this very subject. Oprah had a whole show about it one time. They even showed the girl being circumcised. It just made me so sick. Most of the girls that die from this, die from blood lose or infection. A lot of country's have now put a stop to it and thank God for that. Now how do you feel about the subject?

it's not islamic, but i read from a book about a half-breed girl of a yemenis man and british woman when she was in yemen when 16 yo but having been born in england being laughed at by other local girls bc she was uncircumcised, asking if she wasn't worried it would go flabby or shaggy as she aged.
other ideas, i have none.

at first...i thought that female circumcision is a very right thing....BUT when i read this....and saw the anatomy pictures ( Diagram 1)...i became so very against it :

Praise be to Allah.
Ibn Qudamah (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in his book al-Mughni: "Circumcision is obligatory for men, and it is an honour for women, but it is not obligatory for them. This is the opinion of many scholars. (Imam) Ahmad said: For men it is more strictly required, but for women it is less strictly required." (al-Mughni 1/70).

Circumcision of the female consists of the removal of a part of the clitoris, which is situated above the opening of the urethra. The Sunnah is not to remove all of it, but only a part. (al-Mawsu‘ah al-Fiqhiyyah 19/28).

In this matter, it is wise to follow the interests of the female: if the clitoris is large, then part of it should be removed, otherwise it should be left alone. This size of the clitoris will vary from woman to woman, and there may be differences between those from hot climates and those from cold climates.

A hadith on the topic of female circumcision has been attributed to the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon Him), according to which he said: "Circumcision is a Sunnah for men, and an honour for women," but there is some debate as to the authenticity of this hadith. See Silsilah al-Ahadith al-Da‘ifah by al-Albani, no. 1935.

How circumcision is to be performed is mentioned in the hadith narrated by Umm ‘Atiyah, may Allah be pleased with her, according to which a woman used to perform circumcisions in Madinah. The Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon Him) told her: "Do not abuse (i.e. do not go to extremes in circumcising); that is better for the woman and more liked by her husband." (Reported by Abu Dawud in al-Sunan, Kitab al-Adab; he said this hadith is da‘if).

The scholars’ opinions cited above should be sufficient explanation. And Allah knows best.

Islam Q&A
Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid

It's done to 97% of Egyptian females...Christian and Muslim. This practice dates back to the Pharoah's and is a culture based thing..although some people are coming out as "non inscion" villages...but very few. It is not written in the Quran or Hadith so I won't do it if I ever have a daughter.

Some do encourage it for many reasons:
- It maintains cleanliness
- It prevents diseases
- It brings calm and gives radiance to the face
- It keeps the couple together and prevents drug use
- It prevents her falling into what is forbidden

Some discourage it for many reasons:
- Physical and mental damage
- Drug use
- Familial problems

I Am Jack's Wasted Life
Not for me thank you very much!

As for those who will connect it with religion.. it has nothing to do with Islam. It was never mentioned and there's no clear saying about it. It's not obligatory in Islam and its not a sin either. I guess it depends on the woman. Its a personal choice but for sure no girl should ever be subjected to that after birth. No parent should subject his kid to that *unless they have real good reasons*. So.. Personally I wouldnt have it done or do it to my daughter if I ever have one. However, I have nothing against women who choose doing this. Their business I dont care! As for parents who force it on their little girls.. I think they're being a bit cruel and ignorant but after all its their girl and they know what kind of culture they live in best so.. cant blame them a 100% either!

The same as I feel about male circumcision...both are mutilating and completed on innocent babies/children that don't get a choice...or a voice about their own bodies.

I'm not qualified to talk about this from Islamic point of view, so I'll tell you my own opinion;

I think it should be done with restrictions;

For girls who need it, it will be oppressive not to do it for them, they would suffer over-appetite.

While for those girls who don't such, it will be oppressive to do it for them, they would suffer frigidity.

I was against before and I found happily new law in Egypt against this procedure. however if it would be clearly obligatory from islam I would accept it.
