We all say how pathetic it is but really all of us do these generalisations. Many of the people posting here, while saying they disagree with generalisations, have generalised about Americans.
I have a cousin who went to a very middle middle american town and she was wearing harem pants and is quite attractive. The amount of attention she got there from people who thought she was some Sheikh's wife! People in the station came up to her asking how is life in the harem!
But listen dont we all say: Egyptians are sly, Isrealis are aggressive, the English have a dry sense of humour, the Americans are like children - everything is wonderful for a minute -, Germans are stodgy and boring.... one could keep going on.
It's better than generalising people on basis of the month they were born in!!LOL

They're ignorant. Though stereotypes are ture in more cases than most people think..

I do not wear clogs, hate tulips, I don't eat cheese all the time.
Smoking weed is quite normal around here, but not everyone does it.
And hate tans!

But that's what we hear from Americans, other countries actually know something about the world around them, and don't utter such nonsense.

In fact I look a lot like my avatar and play on Yahoo, not the beach!!

yes it gets annoying. But Americans are especially prone to this sort of error and when I meet them it's fun to have them on about snake bites and shark attacks!! And I ALWAYS tell them I have a pet kangaroo.

And they almost ALWAYS believe me!!

I think it's horrible, but remember that's only a symptom, it's on the surface and visible. But to fix/solve any problems one must seek the "Root Cause" and eliminate/cure it.

I believe in this case the root cause is dividing the one planet earth and human being by "Borders" and "Nations" resulting the "Race" , "Nationality" etc, etc,,,,,,etc, to become an issue/problem.

lol, I hope I didn't confuse you by my crazy logic analysis, but you know it's what I do and my second nature.

When the human being is finally fully civilized then it'll be only :

"One Planet,,,,,,,,,,,,,One People".

I 'll tell u something Personally happened to me ... My American friend knows dat am half turkish and half moroccon .. but am born and raised in UAE ... then he told me " Aw, so ur riding camels and live in desert !!! AW u don't have toilets and bathrooms !! and u drink water from wells !!! and amazing are u wearing TURBAN now ?!! ... and how is health hygiene is there !!! do really u live in tents !?"
Simply I answered him "ow really and how am chattin to u now ?!" dat was jus de beggining"
U know what !!! It took me 2 months to describe de things for him and explain it clearly and I really shot pics and sent it to him to let him believe so ...
I have to be patient .... Jus few days ago he confessed dat i were so patient wid him and i were really so wise cuz i dealt wid him ....
Actually such people i deal dem through open minds and open hearts too cuz sometimes or u can say most times they say harsh words dat it can't be acceptable really ... but actually they jus got de wrong image ...
Now he is a very loyal friend and dealing freely wid each other ...
In fact u can say dat he trusts me more dan his family members and ask me to help him in lotta things dat he faces
Even now he asks my opinion about much things ...
Anyway I didn't expect dat at all and I can't imagine dat I reached dat security level and I told him so ...
I won't deny dat he also claimed dat am terrorist but after he dealt me .. nowadays he is saying " why didn't u slap me for my word?!"
Simply I told him cuz u dunno me ... how can i deal u in de same way u deal me !!!
BTW he though me Nigee or black ... but after he saw me ...
He told me dat he never expected dat but there was a comment .. he saw me wid veil .. he told me "is dat de turban ?!"
LOL I explained for him dat it is not a turban ... It is a veil and i illustrated my religion to him ... He though me wearing "niqabi" .. I told him "turban and niqabi" ?!! OMG
But actually people such as my dear friend ... and i have a lot of dem ... U should be patient and flexible AP

As an Englishman from Manchester, I find myself reduced to my nationality when overseas (a football hooligan when I'm in Europe, or a Pommie b@stard here in Australia), and reduced to being a Mancunian when I'm in England (car thief, mugger, clubber, etc)

I've actually had a t shirt made here in Australia which says "Pommie" on the front and "B@stard" on the back

I find it all very amusing, personally.

I look like nothing in particular, because I'm of mixed heritage.

I often tell my close friends that people either think I am whatever they are - or they think I am what they either like or dislike.

It's quite amusing to me since I'm usually not at all what they think :-D

People like that....I simply think they are very insecure and don't like competition. Just b/c I have dark skin I have been called everything from Native American to Indian to Saudi to Mexican... My favorite ethnic reverse-joke is "hey I'm sorry not just my nose but also my ---- is larger than yours but, hey, I guess that's part of being Arab (LOL)". As for you, you could also say "Ride a camel to work? No I rode Camille before work. Or wait, wasn't that your girlfriend's name?" :-D
