What ever happened to common courtesy?

As we drove to Las Vegas last week, we got a flat tire. Now here is a car with 4 pretty ladies in it, in the desert with no cell phone coverage, and cars passing us by left and right. Do you know how long we had to wait for help? Hours. We even tried to change the tire ourself finally. Why is it so hard to find a stranger willing to help nowadays? Would you help someone you didn't know? Do you?

Oh, no!!!
I can't believe that!
Wait...let me take that back...I can believe it...I have seen it happen all too many times.
I don't know why it is except that people are just too wrapped up in themselves.
Even if someone was afraid of what 4 pretty ladies might do to him (heheheee....) offering to call the police or a tow truck would be helpful!
Too bad I wasn't with you...I could've changed that flat.
(btw...Marty woulda zoomed right past you.)

Bélier
Poor Shari.. I can imagine what u went through...

If that would have happened in Lebanon, u wouid have waited only a few minutes!!

Mike T
Zooming up I-15 (assuming that you came from SoCal), I doubt that any drivers going 90 MPH noticed the gender of people in the car.

Learn to be self-sufficient and don't play on the "pretty ladies" bit. It's not that hard for a woman to change a tire. So you get a little dirty and break a nail.

Marushka
because of the many thieves and criminals nowadays, people don't trust strangers anymore.

Jasmine
If u were in egypt like Reikominder said trust me alot of ppl would stop and help u but here in america its so hard for someone to actually come help u!!!!

Reikominder
Here in Egypt :D , its like even a busy guy , will stop his car and help u :D ,

But that's what life bring us to , we are afraid from everybody , and that's bcoz of untrusted people ,

I wish i was there to help u Shari , and btw , its easy to change it , u can learn it ,

Wish u all a happy driving safely with no flat tires :)

Aussie
Well , it goes to show that common courtesy isn't all that common any more.
I can honestly tell you that that would not have happened in our part of the world ! Aussies are very helpful !

darcymc
common courtesy starts with you
and yes i often help others and expect nothing in return
"pretty ladies" lol

Stevalia
I have always stopped to help out, but you can appreciate these days why people are reluctant to help.

They may feel it is a trap or are on a long journey somewhere and are already tired. It could be many such reasons why they do not stop to help.

Though I feel it hardly likely "4 pretty ladies" would be setting a trap for someone.

What I find more strange is that they do not make basic machanics part of driving test; such as ansewr questions on oil change, water, tire pressure. And in this case how to change a tire in an emergency when no help is at hand.

I am not saying you need do these things on your driving test, but at least have the knowledge and skill how to if need be.

There are many tasks I am sure that women do that are far more complicated and more difficult than changing a tire, that I am sure you have done yourself, but like these tasks if you have never been shown how, then you are at a loss.

In fact it is much easier to change a tire once you have learnt how for instance; than to spend all day digging the garden.

I would have been delighted to help.

Let me see...are you sure it was an accidental flat tire? anyone we know didn't want you in Vegas? mmm....questions, questions.....

Kalooka
at this part of the hemisphere, yes we do appreciate helping each other a lot, it's highly valued here..sorry for your bad experience

you know, it depends on the country

In doha, i once had a flat tire, and you wouldnt imagine the help i got!!

so it really depends on the country, and who passed by you :D

MikeInRI
I am sure people were concerned for their own safety - didn't you ladies have cell-phones and could call for help? In the age of cell-phones the need to come to the rescue of others isn't a necessary.

Good Luck!!!

Halawa
Alot of people are scared to stop for people on the road... also alot of people assume everyone has a cell phone and probably are just waiting for there ride to get there... I would suggest you learn how to change a tire.. This is what I did I bought a tire and I have 5 rims that comes with my car so I had him put it on my extra rim then I went by myself outside with no help and learned to change the tire.. now I dont worry :) I also can change the oil and fuses do the fluids and so on... I think its soo important for a woman to learn these things... oh and back to your questions if I seen women only and I did not feel scared I would definitely stop :)

Hmm, I think that most people now will be willing to go for help or call, and I can see why some would view it as chancy as well, but I know what you mean about no cell coverage in that area. And Kumara's comment aside, I have stopped to help several people, when I deem it safe to do so.

Mad Cow
I guess those who drove past must have been gays.........rushing to their hotels for a quickie..........
