I read this statement somewhere...
"There is no such thing as an illegitimate child, only illegitimate parents!"
Legally, it came from the idea that to be considered legitimate, a child's parents had to be married to each other, in order to inherit, but now this concept is old fashioned.
I think I'll stand by the opening statement. |

An illegitimate child is one born out of wedlock, meaning the parents aren't married.
They used to be known as a 'bastard' but this has become an unacceptable term to use.
In ye olden days an illegitimate child could not inherit property, these days though it is hardly relevant how or when you where born. |

it is when a child is born out of wed lock!!
simply when two people who are not married have a child, its not really relevant in todays society, but it was looked down on before. |

An illegitimate child is one born out of wedlock (parents unmarried). In the past such a child would have no legal rights to inheritance etc. |

It means a child whose (biological) parents are not married. I wouldn't worry about it though, it isn't a pressing concern in most modern countries. |

Illegitimate child is a horrible name for one conceived out of wed lock. They should call it something different though. No child is ever illegitimate - they live, they breath, and they have feelings! |

It use to be when someone had a baby without being married. We are living in 2007 now, you won't hear that saying much anymore. People use to marry just so their baby would be legitimate. I was one of those mothers. |

Unmarried parents produce illegimate children because they are not married! |

An illegitimate child is one whose parents weren't married at the time of birth. I'm not sure if you remain illegitimate if your parents marry later on, though. |

An illegitimate child is when you call yourself WRRRR on Yahoo Answers! South African section and believe that everything you say is meaningful and constructive.
A legitimate child is one born in a hospital and knows who his daddy is.
I really don't have an idea since it is of no consequence these days as far as I know. Legal and illegal aliens however is a term more frequently heard of these days! |

This is agood question and thanks for asking it. There is a Sesotho (one of SA native languages) saying which when losely translated means that; " a bird uses other birds' feathers to build its own nest". I am using your question to develop a debate for sometime next week. |

A child that's mom and dad are not officially married.... the old word was bastard and now they say illegitimate. I don't know if there is still discrimination for legal reasons like there used to be though.
NO CHILD IS ILLEGITIMATE IN THE EYES OF THE CREATOR |

Hope Fallen and Inno don't see this question. LOL
I was illegitimate conceived, mom and dad made it (just in time) to the altar. Little Donnchadh attended the wedding attired in nothing but nakedness and floating around in some fluid stuff. Mom had to wear a dress double the normal wedding dress sizes.
Not my fault. Hulle wou mos stout gewees het. |
