What is it with Egyptians and the so-called "American Dream"?

I have seen and heard of a lot of Egyptians who think that USA is just the land of dreams where they will be able to make a;;their dreams come true and live stars with the Green US Dollars flying all around them hahaha! Does that also have to do with the media corrupting their brains? Who gives them such an idea? cuz it sure is nothing like that lol

America is neither as good as people think, nor as bad. There is alot of fitna of the eye...but there is so much less corruption....so much more financial opportunity, but so much less chance to do it in a halal way...and so much more expensive to live. I am more free in some ways to be a muslim here...but its hard to eat halal....Il be back later, I have to go pick some dollars off my money tree in the yard...u know the one that everyone overseas seems to think we have....Just remember wherever u are, dawa needs to be a main part of your life.

i can`t agree more with you....such an incredible question!
yes , you got that straight ...alot of young people here in Egypt dream of leaving Egypt for good & never come back .
their destination is the USA most of the time , Bcuz it is the most available foreign culture here in Egypt . and you said it , we`re victims of the media.you won`t believe the American way everything is turning into ! even the movies specially AHMAD HELMY ...i can`t believe no more that this is an Egyptian movie ...everything in it is American except for the actors if you know what i mean !
now everything good or beautiful is American according to kids & young people in Egypt.
there is sooooooo much to say ....

have a nice day
LOL

That's the image USA tries to associate itself with, it has been going on for years and people from all over the world bought into that bogus ad. and thought that America was heaven on earth.

THE-GREEN-VISITOR
American movies and false leadership of US to the world currently are deceptive to naive people, I think this is one strong factor.

gv3_1914
compared to where they come from where there is very little opportunity and free enterprise, America IS "the land of dreams"

Its a case of the "grass is always greener on the other side".
But in this case its the greenback is greener ... .......or they think its easier to get and goes further. .... joke time!
Along with those green dollar bills, you have to pay a lot more to live, in rent ,food, clothes, petrol or gas, depends where you are from what you call it.
Everything costs money if you think its bad in Egypt, see how far a dollar goes in the U,SA or in Australia.
In Australia, petrol is around $1.50 litre,
You will pay $200 plus per week for a one bedroom flat in the city.
The average wage for the average job is $15 per hour,a lot better than the U.S.
2litres of milk $2, bread $3,Coca-cola $3,cigarettes $14 per 25, then you have to find somewhere legal to smoke them,
a chicken uncooked $9,grapes $4 kilo,potatoes $2.
You need health insurance, car insurance, household and furniture insurance.
Then every time you use an ATM its $1
The days of the American dream are long gone, along with Australia being the Lucky Country.
Its all in the past and the only place you will find it now is in the "gangsta rap" videos with their bling bling and da cars an' da swimming pools and da easy money, Its all just media hype!
I know its hard in Egypt, but you better have a good education and be at the top of the pile in "a needed profession", if you think your future may be in the U.S.A. or Australia.
You will have better luck if you are a better than good tennis player, or can bend it like Beckem, then you are talkin the big money.
So educate ,exercise, be the best at what you choose to be and you just might make it, remember I did say might!

America is the land of the immigrants. Some find there that their dreams are real and some are frustrated.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

You are right Ruby. But you really want to know why? Living in such a restrictive culture, with distorted views of how the rest of the world is living. Distorted views of "western" culture.

THERE IS NO AMERICAN DREAM

The media is not corrupting their brains. It is the corrupt government in the country which they reside. They are simply rebelling against this culture.
