Alf .....I will be very worried if I am you, do you know what a pimp is? Just joking, leave the boy, he is just going through a faze and anyway you are a bit of a "nutter" are you not? Out of the mouth of the babes......At least he is just a normal little teenager you should be greatful.

i think its an age thing you know what kids are like anything shiny and they love it

pimp my ride is cool to them , taking a beat up car to a nice shiny new one with cool shiny rims and wheels

might help if you sit and watch a show then you might get what hes going on about

I saw the programme on either Sunday or Monday for the first time and they had a 'pick-up' truck that belonged on the rubbish dump some time ago and changed it into one heck of a nice truck. They even had a ping pong table on the back with state of the art sound, DVD and gaming installed. Looked impressive thought.

I will relax about the whole thing since it is a phase your kid is going through and it is 'cool' in his world. I am sure the phase will pass for something new. That is part of the fun having kids.

Its bad, I was in Reggies on Saturday looking for an Xbox game for my kid, I noticed a whole section of "Bling" toys and accessories for the kids to wear.
Some people must consider the American black gangster movement as appropriate, I don't.
Seen "Pimp my Ride" a few times on MTV, would be okay if MTV were footing the bill, for the average working class Joe, those electronics and additions are way too expensive to be practical, unless you're a thug.

Just asked a Q about feeling a bit lost and behind with the times as well.

I've seen it and cant say I'm really impressed with it. I mean why a fish tank in a car? Some of the colours/designs are outrageous (though I dont mind the LCD screens and games)...

Pimping rides (besides other reasons) is why our beetle was taken by the way. So I wouldnt suggest it to South Africans, unless you want to see your fish kicking for dear life in your seatless backseat... lol!

Pimp my Ride, (PMR) is not just a show kids enjoy. I don't have cable or satelite TV, but I have seen PMR and enjoyed a few episodes that I did see.

I don't always condone or enjoy everything that they do but I do have some respect for the crew in taking a "beater" and turning it into a show car!!

That's the glamour and the glory to why they like the cool rides on PMR. Jammin' stereos too!

Welcome to parenthood,,,,,When my kids were small I was the coolest mother to them, they would copy me and do everything I did,,,,years later,,,,I am so uncool, and I must not kiss them in public,,,,cause its embarrassing,,,,,and 'I do not know what I am talking about' ,,,,,they know better,,,,,and by the way my sixteen year olds, watch PMR every Saturday,,,,its the cool thing to do...You are lucky he has not reached the EMMO stage,,,I see some kids and cringe

Oh dear Alf you have got a way to go yet my sons car is never out of my garage I haven't seen the floor for two years. Two thousand watt speakers + two amps in the back with rear seat ripped out neons underneath, new bucket seats in the front with dvd player and telly for entertainment while driving Just got back from having bigger engine fitted. and a complete paint job with side skirts and new front /rear bumpers. Think Ill bug*er off to Venice now its time for a break.

By the way for the doubters every part that can be replaced has been when he goes for Mot he gets laughed at because everything is brand new its a Vauxhall Nova and was a complete wreck when he bought it.

Yes Alf i think the youth are basically spoiled - lol we had to walk and see more, if you wanted pocket money you had to earn it, and respect and dicipline well - dis in jou geslaan as jy dit nie het nie - lol please i am not saying all of the young people ok and you were tops if you had a bicycle, forget a car, i've seen the program and understand the facination but you can't use that speed anyway so why do it

I have sympathy with him. I wanted to have a gold-plated Urutu APC, draped with black-and-white ox hides and with ostrich feathers on the radio antennae. Wide wheels, 48-inch rims, special exhaust pipes, all the stuff. Stereo system, etc. Then I could sit in the turret under a stretched awning and ride round congratulating the new owners of the farms.

Makoni wouldn't let me, he said it was too expensive, so I kicked him out of the Party. Treacherous little piccanin.
