The most well-known characteristic that seperates the genus Acinonyx (cheetahs) from the other two cat genuses, Panthera and Felis, is that they cannot retract their claws.
Cheetahs are also day-hunters while the hunting habits of other cats are mostly (but not exclusively) crepuscular and nocturnal. |

Of course, there are many characteristics which distinguish species of cats from one another, whether large or small.
In the case of the cheetah, the obvious one is that they cannot retract their claws.
It may also be interesting that in the case of 'big cats', the cheetah is not officially regarded as one of the 'big cats'. |
