they have invested heavily in their Olympic Program they have had thousands of athletes training and they choose the best of the best, and unlike the USA which gets its money for its Olympic team from Private Citizens and Corporations, the Chinese Olympic team is backed by the Chinese Government, their funds are virtually unlimited

I heard they devoted significant funds to a government sponsered athletic division.

Well, when they see a baby that looks like it has potential in a sport they take it and train it to the max. There are stories of kids not even remembering or seeing their parents in 3 years. They are amazing athletes.

to show their new image to the world. and they are no longer that China we used to know through the past century.

and to show themselves that they got rid of the complex of national humiliation they suffered from in the past 2 centuries under being occupied for decades.

so behind the success: persistence to seek a new future.

Chinese athletics are government-sponsored and participation is NOT voluntary.

The Chinese government hand-picks children at very young ages based on their body-type and natural abilities, and then programs and molds them into performance machines.

It's not a whole lot different from military training. The Chinese athletes WILL perform, not because they necessarily want to, but rather, because they've been told to.

There's also significant financial motivation. The government handsomely rewards the top-performing athletes and their families. Often, an athlete's success is his/her family's ticket out of poverty.

I think their success lies in their population. They have the ability to choose, pick, and train from a large number of people. If you look at the early training camps they have so many children who are trying to achieve Olympic qualifications. Not all make it and the cream of the crop is chosen.
The other thing is that everything is government based, so there is no monetary competition or sponsorship requirement to pay for training.

They have self-esteem and they believe in themselves and are proud of their culture and country. BRAVO!

Well... there could be three explanations:

1.) They are a group of people who work very hard and strive for perfection... especially since the Olympics were going to be in China and they really wanted to WOW the world of their awesomeness (I wish this effort would be put into making products, especially electronics)

2.) Cheating and using computer graphics in the opening and closing celebrations on tv to again... WOW the world

3.) Both explanations above

--------------------------------------...
Edit: Even if the ages of the girls were younger, their performances were still impressive or even more impressive since they're so young. I certainly cannot do any of those moves.

an eye on china
no saying but doing
China was no member of UN but once it was they went on large they asked for a permanent chair and the Vito right they got that
with the most hard climate and land they have no food shortage that we heard of
with the largest population in the globe we heard of no hunger the same as we see in Sudan or Somalia or other countries
they managed to stop the increase of population
they have got the higher range of developing resources and national income
they managed to enter every market in every city in the world with cheap goods
they offer the arabs backing in their causes but the arabs denied that on them may be only Sudan has welcomed the idea
they were fair to palestinians and refused any deal with israel till arabs had their treaties with israel so they said"cant be royal more than the king"
now comes to sport
as on news the previous olympic games costs were 4 300 000 000$ china has invested 40 000 000 000 $ its a huge amount of money but its still much less than the cost of war US leading
they are telling the world that we spent as 10 times as any other country on olympics but not a penny on war
never the less they are hard workers and deserve appreciatortion

lumos
the secret is that they r hard workers.im not tryin to be negative here but give egypt the funding, would they be able to do it? i don't think so.

It's amazing how ignorant many of the people answering this are! Yes, China finances the training, but so does nearly every other country, other than the U.S. And China has BILLIONS of people from which to find the best athletes. Of course, there are also statistics that show that the host country tends to get additional medals, but that is no different than any sport with a home field advantage. The crowd will influence both the athlete and the judging. But for the sports based not solely on judging, China still performed well.

As for the idiot who talked about the living conditions and the "occupation of Tibet," please get some real education on the topics. You know nothing about what you are talking about. The "impoverished" in China are no different than the impoverished in America, Russia, or any other country. Yes, there are more of them, but that is again related to the total population! And Tibet is simply a Province in China, just like any other Province. They are not "occupied" by China -- they are, and always have been -- a part of China.

China did a tremendous job in all aspects of the Olympics, from the ceremonies, to the facilities, to the security (not one incident related to the Olympics happened -- the knifing was totally random and unrelated to the Olympics). Congratulations on the best Olympic Games yet!

i heard it wasn't successful at all...the events all went as planned, but there was NO culture, NO fun, and attendance was HORRIBLE. i think its sad that the olympic committee let themselves be used by china in an attempt to make the world forget what a terrible place it really is. can't wait for london and vancouver though.

I wouldn't call it a sweeping success. They did nothing that any other country hasn't done during their turns at hosting the olympics...a spectacular opening ceremony, state of the art facilities built for the games, an equally spectacular closing ceremony.

What one must look at is the fact that many of the people who performed in the opening and losing ceremonies don't even earn what their costumes were worth in a year. That anyone who had anything to say about China's occupation of Tibet and plans to make it a tourist destination were barred from entering the country, detained and/or deported.

The controversy over the Chinese female gymnasts' actual ages still hangs in the air...I mean really they LOOKED like they were 13 or 14. Meaning China might have been willing to cheat to win.

Yes they put on a great show, but backstage it was business as usual.

why did you post this question in egypt? china is in asia and egypt is in africa...

probably because their athletes are use to the poor air quality where the rest of the world or most of the world anyways has much better quality.
