I have said it over and over again, I wish the rich Western nations would once and for all stop sending handouts....if I do not look after myself no one else will, if I got everything for free how would I ever learn to get things myself? If you take a pride of lions and start feeding them for 30 years they soon would have no idea what so ever how to look out /hunt for themselves.
What needs to be done? Terrible but look at what happened in Zim, just after a few years 3 -4 of sanctions/boycotts/no help financially whatsoever .....Everything fell into utter chaos. And who do you think to will the MDC look to "help" them if and when they come to power? The West and the circle will start all over again. Why do you think the USA is such a rich country, they were a colony once? Nobody ever helped them they learned to fend for themselves. It is cruel but the only way to "cure" Africa of her "beggars" disease is to let her starve and learn to fend for herself. Anyway if you save and build things yourself you would think twice before burning or neglecting it, if you get everything for free then you will "trek dit deur jou gat".

Africa has, in the past been great. It's everyones ancestral home. Humans evolved in Africa for millions of years before they left for other continents. Ethiopia had the world's first university. Egypt was ... we all know about Egypt.

AIDS, famine and corruption have dragged Africa down. Colonialism by Europeans is not the root cause. South Africa is led by an alcoholic. Zimbabwe by a mad person. Ghana and Botswana are the only countries I'd visit. It's a mess. Africa needs some great leaders. Mandela and Tutu were (are) great but they didn't do enough. You need more like them.

The white man has got to take the blame for this. Africa was a Utopia before the white man ruined it.

A few weeks ago I was reading in the Johannesburg "Star" about how this guy raped a baby. His defence lawyer said it was because he had been brought up under the repressive Apartheid regime.

I hesitate to say that Africans are corrupt, though. I'd say they just want EVERYTHING for themselves, they will hold on to everything and leave their own brother standing naked and starving , picking his nose at the side of the road.

To say they are "corrupt" is a form of flattery they don't deserve.

comment for NotEcky: how can being brought up under an apartheid regime be responsible for raping a baby - I am sick and tired of apartheid being blamed for the lack of BASIC HUMAN MORALS - it is wrong to rape - never mind rape a baby. It is wrong to steal, kill, rape etc

I don't think that South Africa will ever be above 3rd world status - we need to be able to clean the slate and start over. None of this blaming apartheid for everything, no more chips on the shoulder's ("because I am black"), education and respect is where it starts - if you have this then future leaders will respect their voters, their jobs and maybe know what they are actually employed to do.

Isn't it amazing that someone like NotEckyboy who has probably never even visited Africa has this opinion about how the Whiteys screwed up Africa...

And the majority of South Africans who actually live here get Thumbs Down for their Answers which are all based in fact and experience...

Dude come visit South Africa, come and sit at the bedside of a wife who has just been raped and her husband killed because our fellow countrymen feel they are entitled to kill and rape because they suffered under apartheid -

You have to be at least 40 years old to actively been part of Apartheid, tell me what a 15 year old school girl did to promote Apartheid and still she gets shot 9 times...

Africa would be one massive civil war if the Whiteys had not colonized Africa and brought at least a small amount of civility to their savage culture....

So before you start believing apartheid is to blame for all Africa's problems - hop on a plane and come visit me - I promise you I will send you back with a new perspective on the issue....

Hm. Now how can that be possible? Hasn't most of Africa been liberated between 40 and 30 years ago?...Shouldn't everything have been better when the evil caucasians left or gave up power?

Due to a combination of corruption from foreign and native companies/countries...Africa has sadly become a disastrous continent.

Disease - lack of education and medical help really renders millions of Africans helpless.

Christian Organizations - They tend to try to convert Africans to Christianity more than they actually help them.

African Government - pocket huge amount of cash that comes from both their own country and foreign aid.

African Rebels - kill their own kind in order to steal food, money and whatever else they can find.

Genocide - pretty much a sub-problem arising on behalf of what the rebels are doing.

Until the people of Africa get the help they deserve and learn to combat all of these things it will be nearly impossible for Africa to become the great continent it once was (and still is in a sense).

Africa is seen as one big mother of a third world country, no exceptions.

We may eventually get to be more then just another 3rd world country but BOY OH BOY are we going to have to work at it!

And to sort the problem out...change everything!! Yip, that about covers it!

I must point out that no Western state has ever to yet send me any guilt money!

The problem with Africa is simple, it is populated by worthless, inept and primitive savages, aka, Africans.

Pointing out 3 or 4 countries as doing well is laughable, in a few years another dictator will come along and change that.

Africa gets most of the first world aid donations and through corruption squander it all. Donor countries are getting sick of donating and seeing no positive return. Just more of the same....

Africans need to take responsibility and stop pointing the fingers.

Are not 3rd World countries, but also not 1st world nations.

HOW CAN YOU EXPECT new nations to magically become rich? The vast majority of African nations gained independance less than 50 yaers ago (after WWII), and NOT ONE NEW NATION, became rich after independance, not even the United States.

AIDS (especially in Southern and Eastern Africa) has taken a huge toll on the living Conditions (HDI), new nations fresh from birth, simply do not have the money to pay for all these poverty and disease prevention programs, etc. Note that if Botswana didn't have an AIDS epidemic, Botswana would DEFINATELY be a first world nation.

Oh and btw, APARTHEID, didn't help very much, also.
