Hebrew is the formal and spoken language de facto. It is spoken by most Israelis as a first language.

Arabic is considered a second formal language, and it is spoken as a first language by Israeli Arabs, Druzes, Bedouins and Jewish Israelis who immigrated to Israel from Arabic speaking countries.

English is a third formal language, and it is taught in every school in Israel. Most Israelis are pretty fluent in English.

Other spoken languages are Russian, Amharic, Yiddish, Ladino, Polish, Romanian, Spanish, French, Persian and more... They are spoken as first languages by the Israelis who immigrated to Israel from all over the world.

Hebrew and Arabic are primary languages, however Jews have come here from all over the world so... every language has representation here, name it we have it.

-Hebrew
-Arabic
-English
-Other languages because of the high immigration rate.

In Israel people speak mostly Hebrew. But there are plenty of people who speak any other languages such as English, Russian, Arabic, Yiddish, etc. Don't worry, if you think of visiting Israel without knowing Hebrew it's not a big deal, once you know at least English you are saved =]

Yanush
In Israel we speak Hebrew as a native language but many others as well.
There are many people who speak Russian (like myself) because a lot of Israelis came to Israel from Russia and USSR in the "Aliot".
Also we have many Arab people who speak Arabic.
We also have other cultures and languages like: English, Moroccan Arabic, Spanish, French, Ukrainian, Romanian, and many many more!

The native language is hebrew although mostly everyone knows English. If you were to walk in to a store, at least one or two of the employess would know english. although there is a lot of french now since many french have made an aliya over to Israel. incase you didn't know, an aliya is when you move to israel. i hope this helped!

The official national languages of Israel are Arabic and Hebrew. Check on the Ministry of Israel's website. That's been the official languages since it's formation in 1948.

It's amazing how many people here who comment regularly on Israel - don't know this basic fact.

Almost all road and official signs are in both languages. Many of them also have English. Because of the huge influx of Russians, that language pops up on government and official papers too.

Although it wasn't the reason for doing it, many Jewish people speak or spoke Arabic as their first language when they came to israel because they came from Arabic speaking countries. Therefore it was very helpful that it was one of the official languages already.

People come from all over the world, so everything gets spoken by at least someone.

Some Israeli's are fluent in English. But it's not everyone by a long stretch.

Hebrew is the primary language.

But as you probably know, there are many immigrants in Israel, so many other languages are spoken there by residents, including English, Russian, Arabic, and MANY others.

kismet
The first official language of Israel is Hebrew.
The second official language of Israel is Arabic.
The third official language of Israel is English.

tamarindwalk
They speak a host of languages because they are a nation of immigrants. The languages are (but are not limited to): English, Hebrew, Yiddish, Arabic, Russian, Polish, Hungarian, Iranian, and the list goes on and on...

The native language is Arabic but Palestine is occupied by Europeans who speak a modernized version of hebrew because they imagine they are descended from the ancient hebrews, not that that would be any credit since even then they were genocidal maniacs and the scourge of the region. History will keep repeating itself unless we learn it's lessons.

Galahad
Arabic, with a regional inflection. It is currently under hostile occupation by Europeans who have some kind of mania for "jewish" culture; they actually speak Hebrew,a long-dead language.

Arabic is the native tongue but European immigrants have revived a dead language - hebrew - and modernized,i suppose to keep Christian Arabs out of office, since it's a tough language to learn and you have to know it fluently to hold political office. Same crap the Czechs pulled on the Slovaks back in the 20's and 30's.
