I do agree. It really doesn't matter where you are that determines your circumstances. It's in us. Our frame of mind. Our determination. We have to get up off our butts and go after what we want in life. I'm lucky, I came from a family who has a history of "I'm going to give this life the best shot I can."
You're right. Laughing is the most wonderful feeling in the world. Yesterday I saw the funniest thing (to me). I was leaving a grocery store parking lot. A man passed me on the side street coming to this parking lot; he had his arm out of the window holding onto a grocery cart rolling beside him, bringing it back to the grocery store, going about 20 miles an hour. I tried to get his attention. He was holding onto that cart so steadily that the wheels of the cart were booking along side of him as if it was attached to his car. I laughed for at least five minutes. I still laugh thinking about it. I know...You had to be there. Have a great day.

Now Proud2be, its not the country that's stuffed just the politics.

We have scenery and countryside more beautiful and breathtaking than I have seen anywhere in UK or Europe. And it is adversity that units us and makes us stand as one !!!

I agree! We put up with a crime rate of note, corrupt government and long shopping queues and yet we still come out of it with a smile...even if sometimes its only just barely!

Suid Afrikaners is die beste mense op aarde, omdat ons die mooiste mense het(vir een). Ons het 'n ongelooflike mengsel van talle, en dit maak nie saak wat jou moeder taal is nie, jy ken ten minste EEN woord in twee of drie ander talle!!!

Ons het die lekkerste kos, die skoonste water, die mees asemrowenste strande.

Almal wil by ons vakansie, want dit skud behoorlik met die braais en yskoue bier, tot watter tyd van die oggend.

Ons werk om te lewe, nie lewe om te werk nie.

Ons het die beste sin vir humor - lag vir en met mekaar oor niks en alles!!!

In vergelyking met ander lande, is daar 'n ongelooflike sin van kultuur in Suid Afrika. Almal weet waar hulle behoort, en dit maak nie saak waar ons is in die wereld nie:
- "Oos, wes, tuis, bes." -

Vergeet die kak waar almal ons klasifiseer as 'n 3rde wereldse land ... ek is in Londen op die oomblik, en die enigste TWEE goed wat ons van hulle skui, is hulle vervoer sisteem en die pond.

Ons het ten minste genoeg bal hare om te erken dat daar probleme is in ons land, en nou en dan is daar mense wat nie daarvoor sal staan nie. Ons is seker die enigste mense wat op sal staan as iets verkeerd is. Dis hoekom baie Amerikaners en Britte so onnosel is - hulle doen alewig wat hulle gese word, en vra nie hoekom en waarom nie.

My enigste wens is net dat ons nooit ons self moet twyfel nie. En ons moet altyd hoop vir die beste - en laaste maar nie die minste nie, ons moet

we have made some mistakes in the past but can't we just leave it there in the past every one are so quick to judge us and our mistakes but have you forgotten that other countries also did the same they just never gave it a name.

Agree. PS. Met a German exchange student in December who has been to 8 countries in Africa, Europe and Asia. She said that South Africans are the best people (after 4 months haven't met a single unfriendly person except for 1). She also said that SA is the best country in the world and the most beautiful she has seen. Yes, we have many problems, but our people are still the most awesome :) The whole Southern Africa actually.

Apparently you haven't met the thieving ones who thrive on people who try to do business on the internet.
Of course, living here in the Philippines, I meet those kind here too, because being poor can make a person do very bad things to survive.
In many cases though the quiet majority here are not known because they prefer to remain quiet and just go on with whatever life they can make in an honest way.
There are good and bad everywhere, but being super-ultra poor seems to only bring out the best and worst in people with very few if any in the middle to even things out like there are in developed countries.
