I'm an American and I don't have a whole lot of knowledge about Egypt other than what I've read, studied and researched - but I have a huge respect for Egypt. One day, I'd even love to visit.

One thing that I am proud of for you guys is that you have a rich culture that goes back a very long way, a beautiful country, a very strong bond with family and friends and a true connection with your heritage. This is one thing that makes you strikingly different from everyone else.

In America, it's far too easy for the country as a whole or an individual within to lose track of their culture/heritage and the people that they truly are. Everything here has become so diluted because of certain groups that want to proclaim to be the "root" of what America is about. America is supposed to be about truly realizing who you are, where you came from and being a part of something even better. Unfortunately, here, that's not really the case.

Be proud of the person you are and be proud of where you came from because in the end these are the things that are going to truly differentiate you from the rest of the world. =)

most of my friends happen be Egyptian (coincidence i think). And no shock at all I am engaged to one (happy accident of fate).

And by the way, Shay P, the right word for what you are talking about is Wagib (واجب) not wagab (وجب)

It's just that you have cultural differences that are hard for us to understand, just as you don't understand ours. Your religion and government are fused together, while we maintain distinct separations of church and state. We enjoy some freedoms that you don't have, but you can't miss what you don't have. On the other hand, you have many customs that are beautiful, and our Bible speaks of your land in its teachings. I think we both have much to be grateful for.

In life there are things that we have to do. Things, that you will not do unless you feel pressure or force...Here, in Egypt, we call these things "wagab".Many things fall into the "wagab" category. Things like; attending funerals, visiting people in the hospital, having lunch with some members of your family, etc, etc...
