I was under a training contract at the time, completing my articles in auditing and had taken the day off sick which in the end turned into a heavy drinking session at one of my other mates house who had also taken the day off with flu.
I remember getting a phone call from one of the guys at work telling us to turn on CNN and prepare to be shocked which we weren't, we had expected a terrorist attack on the west by the muslim fanatics of the east for some time but were none the less surprised by the magnitude of the attack.
It was somewhat surreal watching CNN just after the first plane had struck and seeing the second plane strike live, all the while hopelessly inebriated and suffering from a terrible bout of flu.
It only sunk in the next day that the world would inevitably change for the better as the U.S. had now realised the serious threat that Islam posed to the civilised world, yet as the years have passed, they seem to have forgotten what they learnt that day and lost focus on what it is they should have accomplished and still need to achieve in the arab middle east. |

POOR PEOPLE, nearly as many died as we have dying on our roads, at least not as many that die from AIDS. Fortunatley much less people dies than those killed by USA in Iraq.
USA is a strange country, far away. I am always sad when anyone dies such a tragic death, but twin towers does not affect me at all. |

I just came out of Pick 'n Pay and in one of the shops close to it had big-as$ t.v.s there and that's where I saw it. I watched the rest of it at school after those few days. |

We were all absolutely shocked. On the farm we were involved in our daily struggle to survive, when suddenly we were ripped out of our little misery. We were glued to the TV, and had to watch it over and over again to grasp it all. |

I was studying for my Matric (South African equivalent of the final year of school) Chemistry final examination, when my mother came into my room and told me she just heard over the radio that a Boeing has flown into the World Trade Centre in New York.
I thought my mother had lost the plot and told her if this was the case, then surely it would be on CNN. So we went to the lounge and switched on the tv and lo and behold, images of the airplane flying into the towers.
I was completely shocked and felt like I was watching some overrated action movie or something. Needless to say, I did not get back to studying that day and spent the whole afternoon and evening watching CNN! Luckily I still passed the exams!
Sheesh! 6 years ago already - scary how time flies! |

I was actually working online, creating a website when someone instant messaged me about what I thought about the plane that crashed into the tower...being from NY I knew it was no accident and knew it was a terrorist attack right away... |

Visiting my mum in SA. My ex was watching telly, and came out with a white face telling me about it. To be honest, it was not until later that I realised exactly what it was all about. It made me cry for days, the image of the people jumping out the buildings. What a horrific event, and I can only hope that the families of the victims are able to find some comfort by now. |

I was in the US at the ICMA headquarters, in Washington. Had just send an email to Zim, confirming his itinerary for October in the US. We hustled infront of the TV and couldn't believe my eyes. The whole country was gripped in terrible fear after the incident. We had to postpone Zim's trip to November.
No matter how other people feel about America, that was the most coward act. One of my friends lost his girlfriend to that terrorist attack. |
