MR R SOLE

Whats the main language they speak in Tunisia?

Hassen
Arabic is the offical language.

French is their second official language and almost everyone you come across will speak it.

English is also very common because it is the international laqnguage of business.

In the touristic areas you can find people who also speak Spanish, Italian, and German.

Just a comment on the lady who said you will be served lamb...you'll be served whatever it is you ask for, whether it be lamb, beef, chicken, rabbit, or camel. If it is specified on the menu, feel free to ask, but it generally means that the meat is beef.

And don't worry about covering up. Most of us don't. It's usually just the older generation. Plus, there is no dress code for tourists. You can come wearing shorts, tank tops, flip-flops, bikinis, basically, whatever - As long as you are in the touristicy part of the city. Women even swim and sunbathe topless.

Once you go into the main city, because this is a Muslim country, you should show some respect and dress a little conservatively. I'm not saying cover yourself up or anything like that. Conservative Western street clothing (shorts, short sleeved/sleeveless shirts) is appropriate. Attire for women's dress lengths should be below the knee. I myself wear shorts that are about mid-theigh length, flip-flops or sandals, sleeveless or short sleeved shirts, skirts that are a little above my knee, and dresses that are that same length, and I've never had any trouble. And keep in mind, that since I live there, I don't just hang around the touristicy areas, I go to all parts of the city, and I have been to very many cities throughout Tunisia.

In short, just use your common sense. If you need any more help, I'll be glad to assist you since I am living in this country. And if you want, take a look at some of my photo Albums that I have on my page and you'll see that we dress just like Westerners, and you can even see my city - Monastir!

If I can be of any more assistance, feel free to contact me!

They speak Tunisian Arabic which is different to other forms of Arabic. French is their second language and most people working in tourism or in tourist areas will spak many others.

Arabic. Many people speak French as well.

creambunmum
Arabic and French. but they all speak English and loads of other languages!

It is a great country to visit - just remember to cover up if you are female! - oh, and you will not be fed camel meat unless you are told that is what it is. Camel meat is very expensive! You will get lamb!

Arabic, to be precise North African Spoken Arabic close to Algerians, maroccans and even Maltese.

French is widely spoken among the educated young and old but the deeper you go only Arabic is used.

English suffice to in most big towns. But its good to know French at least. Arabic can be difficult for Indo Europeans speakers
