The region of Palestine has always been occupied by someone. Whether it be the Byzantines, the Romans, or the British, it seems to me like there has never existed a sovereign nation called "Palestine," and therefore your assumption - that there is some force occupying a country that used to be sovereign, kind of like the European colonization of African countries - is wrong.

However, if you want to object to the Egyptian and Jordanian capture of what was supposed to finally be a Palestinian country, well, that would be more appropriate. I hope you know, that referring to Israel as 'Palestine' isn't going to make it any more of a country than it is now, and it's certainly not magically going to dismantle the state of Israel. Go protest the formation of Kosovo or something.

Palestine is not occupied. The portion of historical Palestine that is Israel is a free state.

The occupation of the West Bank and Gaza will stop when Palestinians stop supporting terror, stop committing acts of terror, stop warring amongst themselves, and unite to elect a government willing to negotiate a peaceful Palestinian state in those areas that were occupied by Jordan and Egypt before they were occupied by Israel.

Based on the way Palestinians have started intifadas whenever such a peace was at hand in the past, and on the way they elected Hamas instead of a government that would negotiate peace with Israel, I am sadly skeptical that this day will be soon. I am, however, hopeful that it will come as soon as possible.

How can Israel "occupy" a land that is theirs? The other answerers are correct in that Palestine was always a reference to Israel and there was no Palestine country or people until 1967. Even Yassar Arafat declared that Palestine was merely a construct to help destroy Israel. The so called "occupation" will end when the so called Palestinians face the truth, recognise Israels right to exsist, defang Hamas and Hizballah and join the march of humanity towards the light of ethical and moral behavior.

Maybe it will end when there is effective Palestinian gov't to negotiate with. These are all internal matters you cannot pin them on anyone but the Palestinians. I think Hamas is the result of ineffective Fatah. That's why they were voted in office the people said. Because claims of Fatah's corruption and thievery. The people of Gaza apparently would rather kill their people than be swindled, is that the appropriate conclusion to draw? The Hamas threw a Fatah person out the window of a tall building when they overtook Gaza by force, remember that?

In 1917, Britain issued the Balfour Declaration:

His Majesty's Government views with favor the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavors to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.

The Mandate for Palestine included the Balfour Declaration. It specifically referred to "the historical connections of the Jewish people with Palestine" and to the moral validity of "reconstituting their National Home in that country." The term "reconstituting" shows recognition of the fact that Palestine had been the Jews' home. Furthermore, the British were instructed to "use their best endeavors to facilitate" Jewish immigration, to encourage settlement on the land and to "secure" the Jewish National Home. The word "Arab" does not appear in the Mandatory award.11

The Mandate was formalized by the 52 governments at the League of Nations on July 24, 1922.
