Loyalty & patriotism towards our Country is important as long as we keep in mind that we are ALL part of a race called the HUMAN race....once we take patriotism to the extreme & violate our fellow man because he is of a different race , colour or creed then we have totally lost the plot !

this video has been on LBC alot during the holidays specially christmas eve and new year's eve.. i noticed that... it's really sad but it's the truth.. the first thing lebanese think of is religion.. based on that they form ties or they don't form ties.. i never see lebanese people unite.. it's too fictional to me.. it seems that the youngsters are the ones mostly stereotyping people because of religion.. and it is the youngsters who are indeed giving a bad name to their religion.. whatever religion that is..

i like in that video the sound effect when the lebanese are introducing themselves..

and about the arabs uniting.. that's not possible i think... in the end .. the first thing a saudi think of is that he's a saudi .. just like a french person wouldn't say he's european before saying he's french.. there's the patriotic spirit and that's what every other arab country has found..but we haven't yet..

Sorry......but that video doesnt show the truth. I dunno who made it, but is not true.
I havent found yet......a lebanese that said to me I'm sunny, shia....or christian maronite, before telling that are lebaneses.
All the pple I know from Lebanon, always say I'M LEBANESE. After that.if you ask them, may be they will tell u their religion......but that is not so common either.

About to be arabs before being lebaneses....I dont agree. If you ask a colombian what he/she is,,,will reply colombian......not south american
If you ask a german what he/she is........will say german...not european.
Why a lebanese would be different?
Look for another way of union........but not leaving the nationality aside.

Edit : yeah Hallambra is totally right....I've never heard any lebanese saying I am sunni or druze ore whatever , they say they are lebanese and seem to get along very well.
cuz religion is something personal but the nationality draws people together and makes them united.

And about being arab, well... not all arabs share the same background or the same history even not the same culture just the language ... and when the politicians and politics of 2 places are not the same you can't say people residing in those 2 places are really united like a country, so saying "I am lebanese" or "I am egyptian" or whatever country you come from is probably a better idea....

Agreed...I mean, yes, we "Arabs" may not share very common histories..etc, but we do have some similarities in culture and principles.

Just like the E.U, we could be the Arab Union, or the United States of Arabia.....

But none of this will happen before (a) we separate "church"/religion from the "state".....and (b) agree upon a common definition of what makes us Arab...

As for the Lebanese; same thing....they don't have a common perspective of "nationalism" nor do they separate religion from politics

but i have noticed a disturbing fact particularly in this section that different religious groups have different identities and some ppl tries to distance themselves from "arabs".
my advice to all arabs is that, if they want to progress they really have to put religion aside and concentrate on national and ethnical interests instead but unfortunately some radicals simply dont understand that

This is a very good question.

The truth is, I cannot imagine Lebanon being "united". I mean, ofcoarse I hope for it, but look at the way the Lebanese cities run, the north is Christian's and Druze, the Middle is for the Sunni's, and the South is for Shia's. The way these town's have been established prevent's our unity.

Now the Arab thing. I don't think it is that hard. I mean, we already have a common enemy, Israel for the most part, and I really have hope that one day, we will just become one Ummah.
