Where are great places to visit in South Africa?

I have already been to Cape Town and know that to be superb. Which other places (cities in particular) are worth visiting, and why?

Kuger National Park (wild life)
Kimberly (diamond mine)
Gold Reef City (gold mine)
Table Mountain (scenery)
Nedberg Winery (great wines)
Durban (good Indian food / birth of Ghandi)
Cape Town (Amazing scenery in the summer)
Cape Point (The southern most point in Africa, watch out for babons)
Pretoria (Capital (1 of 4) of South Africa, lots of museums to study the country's history)
Lost city / Sun city (vacation resort)
Dragkennesburg (mountain hiking)
Alexerdria and Hibrow (to get mobbed, avoid getting out of the car if you are here unless you are forced out of it at gun point)

My home town DURBAN is the best of all. It will take me 10 pages to explain why, but let me try:

Our sea is not as cold as Cape Town
Our Weather is much better than Cape Town
We are about 1 hours drive from the mountains
We are about 2 hours drive from VERY good game parks
We are very close to a total microcosm of SA: We have Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Zulu and many many more cultural attractions
The KZN Phipharmonic is a GREAT orchestra (Run by an SA alumni of Julliard)

If you have MORE time I can tell you more....

Knysna isn't in the Transvaal, it is on the Garden Route half way between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, but do be very careful when visiting South Africa, it is a very dangerous country.

Go to the Transvaal - to the east of the country. There are loads of friendly traveller hostels there and it's a great chance to get 'lost' somewhere that still maintains a lot of its tradition and natural environment.
There's a town near there called Knysna that's a good place to base yourself.

If you enjoy the mountains go to the Drakensburg or a province called Mpumalanga where you can visit small towns like Sabie and finish off in the Kruger National Park for a Safari!

Johannesburg - its a great place to visit as there is lots to see and do and it is also close to lots of attractions in cities near by! You could visit Gold Reef City - an old gold mine/ theme park, Sowetho - where Mandela comes from, there is the lion and rhino park. Johannesburg is about 50km from Pretoria which also has loads to see. If you come back to SA you have to go along the Garden Route - Cape town to Port Elizabeth! It is so beautiful (probably one of the nicest places on the planet ( trust me I know)Knysna (a town on the garden route) is a really nice place to visit!! If you are into going to the beach Durban id nice - the sea is warm and there are also loads of places to see around there. If you are into the nightlife any city in south Africa is fabulous to go party in!!

The province of Mpumalanga is great - go to the Kruger National Park (game reserve), there are waterfalls, caves, bridge swining, Gods Window, Old mining towns and loats more!!

There are plenty of smaller cities to go to but you would have to decide what you into!!! You must remember people in Sa r very welcoming and friendly (if I can say so myself) we will help u out for the best things to see. and remember if you are from USA or UK the exchange rate deffinately favours you and you will find everything really cheap!!!!

Botswana. I've done some research on the the place, but I can't remember if it's is in Southern Africa or not. But I know when I make a trip to Africa, that's where I'll be going. It looks amazing!

hey dude!there are many places worth seeing.you say you´ve been to capetown but next time you are in that area, make a trip to the cederberg mountains.its about 2 hours drive from capetown along the west coast.im a capetown boy who is now living in germany.ive been to these mountains 4 times in my life and everytime i go it just blows me away.there is a good camping spot there called SANDRIFT,perched nicely inbetween the mountains and the river.you can spend one whole day hicking in the mountains and seeing absolutely amazing things.its like an alien world ontop of these mountains.lookes like you are walking on another planet.the next days you can spend at MAALGAT.its this huge rock pool that you can jump and dive into.its very high to attempt a dive although i would suggest a jump.this place is a paradise.after that you can spend some more days at the same spot and explore the rock paintings, caves and the rest of the area or you can move on to the next camp.you would need weeks to explore the whole region.every turn of the road offers more stunning scenery and weird rock formations.you will be blown away.this is for me the most beautiful part of south africa.

If you are going to South Africa, you have to go on a tour of the Wine route. It stretches along the south wetsern coast of South Africa, a must see! Avoid the bigger cities, if you do go there, get someone who knows where to go and where not to go to show you around. Stay out of Johannesburg and surrounding cities. There are some amazing towns on the wine route that you will find to be spectacular! South African culture at it's best!
