I want to go on a safari next year and was wondering where I should go, Kenya, South Africa. Also which National Parks?

I can strongly recommend Kenya - I was there in August last year. It was one of the best holidays I've ever been on - especially as we visited the coast then headed inland to the Masai Mara and other national parks and reserves for safari.

If you'd like to read my experience see the travelogue section of http://kenya-safari-wildlife.blogspot.com and for a review and comparison of game parks and reserves see http://kenya-safari-wildlife.blogspot.com/2006/03/kenya-national-parks-and-reserves.html You should find an answer to every question you may have; from which jabs and malaria tablets to take, to recent news on the progress of the Great Wildebeest Migration.

It's a wonderful country and the wildlife isn't tagged as it is in the Kruger Park (SA) so the whole experience is far more natural and exciting. Also, to 'ensure' you see the big five - the Masai Mara is the reserve to visit - wildlife is varied and abundant. You'll have the time of your life!

Hi there, Going on safari is a hell of an experience.... There are several places you could go and all very different.

My suggestion is the Serengeti,

At 14,673 sq km, the Serengeti is the largest and most famous national park in Tanzania. Its name derived from the Maasai word "siringet" means "endless space", an apt description for the magnificent rolling plains that give the Serengeti a timeless romantic beauty.
The landscape varies from the dramatic long and short grass plains in the South, to the more hilly wooded areas in the North, the extensive woodland in the Western corridor and the central savannah.

The Serengeti supports the richest wildlife populations on earth and is famous for the annual migration. This spectacle of millions of wildebeest and tens of thousands of zebra heading North into Kenya's Maasai Mara Game Reserve, in pursuit of water and forage as the seasons change, is one of the wonders of the world.

I hope that this helps, try having a look at the following web site: www.serengeti.org it may have further info for you.

My favourites were Chobe/Savuti because of their different brand of hyenas which are not scavengers but predators and can attack lions ,

Masai Mara/Serengeti because of the great wildebeests migrations .

Enjoy

Sabi Sabi game reserve in South Africa is the best. Kruger National park is famous and big, but over-hyped.

South Africa is a beautiful place to go on safari - not only is it a lovely country, the safari's are well organised and really give you the chance to get up close to animals most of us will never see in their own environment. Wherever you choose - have a good trip x

The Maasai Mara in Kenya. I live in Nairobi and went to MM for three nights just after Christmas in 2004 and it was wonderful. Good game drives, lovely rooms, good food, great people etc.

The Paul Kruger Nation Park.... Its the Best ( i worked there for 3 years .) .... But all i would say is that you stay with a good tracker as many people "Just Vanish" when they go walk-about ..!

I've been on several safaris to different national parks and the absolute best is the Masai Mara. I will be returning there for the fifth time, to the same camp, in February 2007.

Masai Mara in Kenya without a doubt! By far the best, I have been on safari in botswana and South Africa as well as the Seringheti in Tanzania and I always return to Kenya (4 times)

Kenya by Miles.

Nairobi National Park right at the centre of sophistication ie 10 minutes drive from the city centre for a starter. Famed Maasai Mara awaits you at the heart of the great Rift Valley. Shaba National Park at the heart of the Samburu in Nothern Kenya. Oooh Mombasa Beaches! Warmth and hospitality of the people next to none.

The country's hotels are as good as any part in the world but their parks and other sites are ahead coz they still have that natural adventure with them.

And finally, dont forget to learn some swahili when you go there. They gave English the vocabulary 'Safari' which means an adventurous tour of East African bushes and parks.

How i envy you.

South Africa, there are several game parks as well as National Parks that you can visit. I am from SA and I found that Kruger National Park is the best. You can also take advantage of fab shops, wine, food, beaches and weather whilst you are there.

African Hunting Safaris
Hunting safaris are very popular in Africa because you can hunt the "Big Five" and bring the trophy home. An African hunting safari is expensive though, but the money generated is often spent on increasing conservation efforts locally.

Limcroma Safaris is a hunting safari operator in South Africa and their web site has an excellent FAQ regarding general hunting questions. There's information about bringing in your own guns, permits, ammunition, how long it'll take to get your trophy back home and more.

BigGameHunt.net offers African hunting news which includes recent hunting accidents, outbreaks of diseases affecting wildlife, changes in hunting policies and more.
