Ideally you should visit both. I feel that you cannot go to Egypt without seeing the pyramids which are in Cairo and also the Egyptian museum where you can see the treasures from Tutankhamen's tomb. In Luxor you have of course the Valley of the Kings and Karnak and Luxor Temples. You should stay in Luxor longer as there is more to do there. |

i'm glad you're coming to my lovely country
1. Cairo & Giza:
It's a big city that never sleeps. you will enjoy the pyramids and the sphinx, visit the egyptian museum. you will find shopping malls like City Stars and City Centre. you can also visit Cairo's Opera house. in cairo wou will find monuments from ancient Egypt, christian egypt and islamic egypt also. you will find a lot of wonderful churches and mosques such as the hanging church and cairo citadle. you gotta visit Khan El-Khalili. it is a place where you can find bazars and antique shops.
2. Luxor:
this is the place to visit if you want to visit the city where the pharaohs really lived 5000 years ago with more than 1/3 of the monuments of the world. You will enjoy the nile there it's really amazing. you have to put in consideration that Luxor's weather is hotter. Luxor is also near it's twin city Aswan where there is the high dam and ancient Egypt.
3. Sharm El-Sheikh:
sand beaches, cristal sea, diving, glass boats, and safari in the desert mountains. |

I think you should go to Cairo and Luxor.Maybe go to Luxor first then the next time you go then go to Cairo or maybe the other way round. If you can only go 1 time go to Cairo because it is nice over there from the internet i can see that Cairo looks much more better. But if you want to go to Luxor go ahead its your choice |

We had a marvellous weeks cruise on the Nile from Luxor, which took in all of the Temples, valley of the kings etc. You could then fly up to Cairo and see the pyramids. I certainly would recommend the cruise and I'm not a history buff. Of course you could do it the other way around, obviously this all depends on finance. |

Cairo is kind of a must, because it is such a central location in Egypt, but I loved Luxor, Aswan, and Alexandria as well. Try and do both if at all possible, though I have to say that I preferred Luxor because of the dry weather (Cairo is very humid), and because of the temples, which were really very nice. |

I would always choose luxor but what do you want to see?
in luxor you will see the superb examples of the tombs in the many valleys of the kings queens workmen etc and wonderful temples such as Hatsheput and Karnak. There is more to see there than you can easily see in one holiday. the hotels and mostly like 4 star rather than 5 star (i dont care what the official rating is) and the night life is limited. but the people are great and the pace is relaxed, the scenery beautiful and the Nile wonderful.
Cairo is huge very busy and not a little polluted. Like all big cities it is noisy and the pace is much faster. You will see the pyramids and the museum where the King Tut's things are and much much more. Also you can visit the step pyramid at saqara and dashur( the bent pyramid and red pyramid)
there are also the many Islamic sites in Cairo itself. the hotels are of a higher standard but also very noisy because of the traffic. i can give you more if you wan to e mail me.
By the way i am english and i have been to both many times, but like i said i love luxor best. the cruise is also great but more expensive, if you are going for the history, then a week in luxor will have you entranced, its also cheaper. Do cairo another time and do a cruise on the third visit, if you only want a taste then either do 2 centre or choose between the two. |

Cairo had the largest museum in the world for only one civilization - all the expedition in the muse me are Egyptian not stolen from any other county - and also you will be ale to see the pyramids
luxor is the largest open museum in the world it had 1/3 of the world huge moments and you will enjoy a wonderful Neil course there
BUT when will you go if in the winter GO TO LUXOR
and if in summer GO TO CAIRO OR SHARM EL SHAIK
because it will be hot in summer |
