while you have many good answers above, i would reccomend luxor. i am assuming you are english as your question was in the english section. to go to cairo and luxor unless you want to arange it independantly is expensive. but package holidays to luxor for one and two weeks are very reasonable. try portland cosmos my traval and kuoni if you want to use travel agents. to be honest they are as cheap as going independantly. luxor has a huge number of historic sites including, karnak and luxor temples and the museum on the east bank and the valleys of the kings, queens, artisans, and nobles, also the temples of rameses 2 and 3 seti 1 hatshepsut and others on the east bank. you can take taxis ( negotiate your price first to any of the sites. Buy a good guide book before you go. its cheaper than using the agents out there. go to the best hotel you can afford, sonesta is nice also i like sheraton and the movenpic is reccomended by many. All 3 have pool areas and i would also reccomend a trip on the nile on a fellucca. go out in the morning and relax in the afternoon. it is a wonderful destination and once you have gone you will want to come back. go b and b and eat out at other hotels and restaurants, most are really very reasonable. the other alternative is a nile cruise, however this is not as relaxing as it might be as you are up early most days to visit the sites. Although it is a wonderful experience. if you want more help e mail, i have been there many times as an english tourist.
reasons for and against cairo are, its incredibly busy, traffic is murder and after the pyramids and the museum you need to go out of town to see any other ancient sites. the pyramids are there, the museum is there and both are wonderful. the hotels are better, but more expensive. there are no anceint sites by the red sea and it is very difficult to get to them from sharm el sheik or any sinai resorts. |

well you could base yourself in luxor so you can do luxor and karnak temples, valley of the kings, queens, etc and luxor museum. also from there you could fly up to cairo to do the museum and the pyramids. wherever you go you will love it anyway. take a look at longwood holidays thats who we went with last year and they were fantastic. they do several itineraries. the people are wonderful too. whatever you do enjoy it. you will have a holiday of a lifetime and some wonderful memories too |

November is a good month to visit Egypt. But I believe that one week is too short for Egypt, but if you cannot prolong your stay I recommend you to do the following:
1- Stay in Cairo for two nights, where you can visit the pyramids, Saqqara, the citadel, the Egyptian museum, Al-Azhar Park, Abdeen Palace, go shopping, visit Al-Azhar area and Khan El-Khalily.
3- Stay in Sharm El-Sheikh for two nights, and take the plane to Aswan.
4- You need two nights in Aswan, on the first day you can cover the city, and on the second day you can go to Abu Simbel.
5- Take the train to Luxor, you have to be there in the early morning so that you can do the morning trip to the West bank. If you are lucky enough to visit the other temples that would be great. In the evening you can take the plane back to Cairo airport to catch your flight back home. |

My best advice will be to do the following
in order to relax you have to go check either hurghada or sharm el shiekh, do that for 3 days
and in order to see historic sites you have to visit Cairo or Luxor for the last 4 days
knowing that hurghada or sharm are 500 kilos from Cairo where by plane it can be less than an hour |
