When you get to S.A. you buy the oldest reliable car u can find. It needs to be equipped with a alarm, gear and brake lock and a fuel cut off system. Then you go to a reptile shop and buy the biggest snake or iguana you can find, place it on the dash where it can be easily seen, then you pray, and hopefully when you return to the spot where you left your car, it might still be there!
Hope this answers your question!

Perhaps the one that belongs to the chief of police

Love this question and answers...so clear cut that your car might be stolen regardless of what you do...
Good luck, I know loads of people who has not had cars stolen from Mercs to Fords to Nissan to Saab, and I know heaps of people who had cars stolen from Mercs to Fords to Nissan to Saab. Get the drift..
What about just taking taxis?!! lol

The ones with their wheels in the boot and the car on bricks

If it's even vaguely car shaped it's open to temptation.

Sticking a "Soccer: The beautiful game" bumper sticker on, however, decreases your chances of having it stolen.

All cars are prone to theft. If it has wheels and it looks like it can be driven, then it is likely to be stolen. We had an old Volkswagen Combibus, the bread loaf shape, one could see the road through the floor when driving, we had to push it to start it, the windows leaked, the wipers were temperamental - that car was not stolen. But we were told by some locals that we were rich, because we had such a big car !! So, my advice, go for a small model way older than 20 years, rusty, a string to tie the door closed, the boot also must have a strap or similar to keep it closed, no radio or aerial, the indicator and brake lights pasted with tape, and smooth tyres, no hubcaps. With some luck, it might still be standing outside the door the next morning when you want to go to work.

Forget what g_its sa<ys about taxis, they are in worse condition than our old combi. And have you ever tried to get aprivate taxi in SA: Difficult!

The one with armed guards on top

austin allegro..........if you leave the windows open and the keys in ,someone might leave you something in consolation

An old Audi. I tried desperately to have mine stolen so that I could claim the insurance but even leaving the keys in the ignition didn't work.

I would say get a car with armed response or something similar written on it, not the police, people might randomly run to you for help and the enforcers will have something say about that, you can also get a mazda 3 speed, its really slow and people dont like to steal slow cars or the best thing to do is get any car you like and get NET STAR or TREKKER, we always see NETSTAR helicopters flying over durban, you can evan get both if you are really scared your car will get stolen.

I would say, any car could be stolen.
However, when I buzz around in my little Opel, (1988) it seems safe.
I make sure the engine is 100's reliable and never run out of petrol.

I don't think they take any car now adays. You must remember, criminals are running some form of business, though illegal. People are under the misconception that the expensive cars are the ones at high risk, when a car like a Golf velociti is likely to be the most targeted. Why? Normally for parts and because there's a demand for it from people who think that kind of car is the safest to own....

Only the dumbest would steal a car that would call attention to them and possibly has a tracker....

Take Beetles, old VW Beetles 16cc, 12cc, 13cc.... in Alex, if you try to fix up such an oldie, believe me... you're asking for it to be taken. Chances are it will be taken either way, and worked on too. Thank goodness my fiance and I are the only ones who know how to start and maneuver the old rust bucket...

耶和åŽè§è¯äºº
Something very, very old and rusty. You might want to fit some flame throwers to the sides too.

General Proud
a friend of mine is in the police. he tells me there are trends in car theft, where certain vehicles are more likely to be stolen during a specific period, however, it's very difficult to track.

he also told me a good story about two car thives who had just stolen a bmw in sandton city. three blocks away, they were hijacked...

crazynti
To be honest i dont think you will ever be safe with your car anywhere in south africa except if its had a few years on the roads and cant sell for much. All the best and stay safe

Dear Carlos
Having some insight into the ways of our sable brethren, I would say a car that has been recently demolished.

Sahara H
Having lived in Johannesburg for the best part of my life, EVERY single car on the road is a potential target. They take no notice of the type or general condition of the car. BUT I would say ALWAYS avoid any type of luxury car like BMW or Merc they are usually the big targets. Always make sure you lock you car and have a latest most up to date security system. . To give you and idea... my brother's car was stolen outside my flat. It took them 5 minutes to get pass the alarm, steering lock and gear lock. It was a 1982 Mazda 323... as old as the hills and on it's last legs but they still stole it. He was lucky... the thieves actually waited for him to leave the car... is most cases people are not that lucky. The car is taken from them at gun point and lives ARE LOST. Grow eyes in the back of your head, you will need them

OK
I can see no one is answering you.
I think its easier if I give you the car brands to stay away from.
1) VW
2) Toyota
3) BMW
4) Opel
Especialy the first 3 stay away from them.
This how hijacking works what happens is a guy let say you want a silver bmw 120i those guys(Hi jackers) approach you and they say they can organise you one for a price and then you say fine.
They then go out "shopping" or spotting and they will follow the 120i for like 2 weeks and when the time is "right" then they will take the car.
Some guy told me he knows these guys that claim that they know every VR6 in the country.
Buy yourself a Puegeot insurence is like nothing.
