To me the worst is ANGER, and simply because it is one of my own weak points (I am ashamed to say). I think that as a nation, if we can get rid of our anger we will gain so much.

Fear is the worst, because it acts as a root emotion for many other feelings. When you have fear, you don't have confidence in yourself or your abilities.

When you don't have confidence, you can develop a mighty ego to compensate. (Confident people don't need to be egotistical).

Or when you have deep rooted fears, you may respond with anger (such as being afraid of a particular race, so you react with hostility),

As for shame, when you are afraid of what others might think, or you doubt yourself, then you will develop needless shame.

So when it comes to emotions, there is nothing to fear but fear itself!

Or as another wise little green guy put it, "fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads.....to the dark side"

Fear, anger and shame are all warning lights which tell us that something is wrong with the situation we're in. We can choose to use them for good or bad: if my boss makes me angry I can go home and scream at my family (bad) or I can use that as an indicator that it's time to change jobs (good). If the place I'm visiting makes me afraid, I can stay there and feel helpless, or I can use that as a sign that I should get out. Even shame can be used as an indicator that this is not a way that I am prepared to be treated.

Ego, on the other hand, seems all bad - especially when combined with one of the others, it seems to result in really awful behaviour...

If you're asking for the purpose of easy control of a population, then it is and always has been FEAR.
If you're asking on the basis of personal down fall, then it is and always has been EGO.
The other 2 options are secondary back ups to support the #1 answers.

I would definately say its EGO. It can be very dangerous. It makes people oblivious to their wrongdoings.

one can control fear, find ways to evade...ego can be horrible, anger is nasty but the worst of all is shame

Anger. It's so easy to say something in anger that will cause a scar that will never heal!

Shame. Fear and anger are emotions that everyone's entitled to have. Ego is essential to be successful and is never really a bad thing. Shame isn't horrible to feel, but probably the worst for your self esteem.

anger is the worst becoz it drives to over reaction, and sometimes you mess up even not intending to. Its the worse thing.
