My 5th Grade teacher, Miss Mac Gregor lived across the street from us and from quite an early age I would go over and visit her and her elderly mother their little cottage jam packed with ornaments ,statues, all from Egypt, plus lots of wonderful books on ancient Egypt and the pharaohs it all intrigued me.
It was from Miss Mac Gregor that I first learnt about Egypt.
From about 4yrs, I had a fascination with drawing eyes, a child's version of the Upchat or Eye of Horus,my Mum told"the ladies" about this as she was "worried" and it was then my visits began.
I don't know if they read something more into what my mother had said and I have never asked, but it turned out "the ladies" had lived in Egypt before coming to Australia and from them I learned so much about the ancient Egyptians and the country itself.
I just lived sitting on the lounge room floor pouring over books while they told me the stories of Egyptian mythology and the names of all the gods and goddesses.
What really broke my heart was when I reach Grade 5 Miss Mac Gregor told I could no longer come over, as she was now my teacher and it wouldn't be seen as the right thing to do,others may think she was favouring me.
That shattered me and I remember crying for days and just hanging around our front gate to see if I could catch a glimpse of them.
I must admit she kept her word and made me really learn in her class,I even felt at times she was picking on me.
But at the end of the year she brought over a statue of Horus that she knew I admired and asked me over for afternoon tea. So I had"my ladies"back in my life and the visits lasted ,even if not so regularly until I was grown up and moved away.
But I remember my year in Grade 5 as being the worst of my school years as every time she looked at me I felt she had rejected me and I had lost a friend..
When I began my Egyptology degree I made a promise to "the ladies" even thought they have long since passed away, to do well and make them proud of me.
For if it hadn't been for their influence I may never have had such a great passion for everything Egypt. |

Can u imagine if i saw him now what will be our reaction? LAst month i saw him but didn't say a word, he stopped and kept looking to me, smiled then left. I saw these words in his eyes "keberty ya eman".

My favourite teacher at school was a Mrs Lashly, she was a history teacher. She was the first person to introduce me to the wonders of Egyptian history & she brought it to life for me, then i was hooked. I never met a better teacher, she made it real for all of us. She died a few years back & i was very sad when i heard, but her legacy lives on, most people i went to school with still remember what a lovely & great teacher she was. |

you gotta be kidding.. good memory about teachers??? None of course.. especially math teachers.. I hated them all.. never had a good one all through my education
but I remember one poor Egyptian math teacher who was named Abu el So3ood.. I was in Libya.. and the pupils there are real devils.. they made the guy stand on one foot, pull out his cheek, and took out his tongue while he kept saying "ya wlad el kalb" all over again, and almost weeping tears... we used to do things you can't even imagine |

Mine was my 7th grade teacher. His name was Mr. Parker. He was actually a great teacher, and all of the kids listened and respected him [or else they would get treated the same way they treated him.] He told me if I got all A's that he would give me $100, and I did. He made me realize that I do have true potential, and someone does care. |

i went to a school run by Catholic nuns .
they were terribly strict with us .
once , it was the beginning of the year when i wrote a composition that was very good .
the Sister thought someone wrote it for me .
i insisted i didnt get any help .
she asked me to write another one in class on a different topic .
i wrote the essay , gave it to her , and she smiled kindly to me.
the rest of the year , i was the prefect of the class and was asked to answer any question that other pupils failed to answer .
my experience was good after all. |

Mine was Mrs. Berry in 1st grade. I had just gotten the chicken pocks and was out of class for about 2 weeks. Having just got over them, I walked in the class and she got the class to cheer and yell for me as I walk in along with cards to give me. I'm surprised I remember that far back! Very memorable moment. |
