Who's the bigger loon, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, or South African President Thabo Mbeki? |
One denies the holocaust and would like to kill millions of Israelis, whilst the other has denied that HIV is the genesis of AIDS, thereby killing millions of his own people who bought into that strange hogwash. Additional Details Predictably, people go after George Bush. How is Bush a loon? He's responding to a cowardly, unprovoked attack on the United States.
Personally, I don't care if the USA kills every Arab in the Middle East, after 9/11. |

George Bush.
He's such a great man.
Much of modern 20th century history is rooted in secularism but recently, according to Time magazine; the western world has once again started to embrace religious faith. Partly due to the rise of Islamic terrorism, many European and American leaders have felt compelled to declare their Christian identity.
The present “War on Terror" can be viewed as being equally a political fight as it is a battle between two opposing fundamentalist camps. On the one side we have the increasingly Christianised American nation versus the "evil" of Islam.
Islam is frequently painted as the aggressor in this struggle but it is a one-sided view devoid of consideration of Islam as a whole. Increasingly since 9/11 the actions of a tiny violent fundamental minority is being used to paint the entire Islamic faith with the same label of terrorism. The modern Islamic terrorist has been a recent invention of the 20th century thanks to equally evil Hitlerian men like Ayatollah Khomeini.
Those who describe Islam as the evil faith point to scriptures in the Koran like "Strongest among men in enmity to the Believers will you find the Jews and Pagans" (Sura 5, verse 85) and "Then fight and slay the pagans wherever you find them. And seize them, beleaguer them and lie in wait for them." (9:5).
What they fail to highlight is that the Koran also contains the following scriptures: “There must be no coercion in matters of faith!" (2:256)
Another reads: "O people! We have formed you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another.” (49:13).
It is hard to deny that Islam has always been a violent faith especially with the current president of the United States appealing to the emotions of millions of Christian across the world but in its 14 century existence Islam has seen more moderate peaceful times than violent.
In response to the rise of Islam a new strain of fascism is on the rise – that of the Christian Right.
It appears that American politics is being influenced by fundamental faith and that religion is being used to marshal the troops and galvanize the people with the current GOP squad offering sound bites to the rest of the world like the following:
“I think the Moslem faith teaches hate.” - Jerry Falwell
"We’re not attacking Islam but Islam has attacked us. The God of Islam is not the same God. He’s not the son of God of the Christian or Judeo-Christian faith. It’s a different God, and I believe it is a very evil and wicked religion." – Franklin Graham, Billy Graham’s son.
"When I said during my presidential bid that I would only bring Christians and Jews into the government, I hit a firestorm. `What do you mean?’ the media challenged me. `You’re not going to bring atheists into the government? How dare you maintain that those who believe in the Judeo-Christian values are better qualified to govern America than Hindus and Muslims?’ My simple answer is, `Yes, they are.’" - Pat Robertson, "The New World Order," page 218.
"I don’t know that atheists should be considered citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God." - George Bush
In his address to the nation on the night of September 11, Bush quoted verbatim from the Bible when he said’ “And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness will not overcome it.” He also often quotes from hymns, prayers, tracts and Biblical passages without attributing them to a source.
Dr James Luther Adams warned of the similarities between the new revived Christian Right and Nazism. He certainly knew what he was talking about, having been active in the anti-Nazi church movement in Germany in 1935 and 1936.
The foundation for the Christian Right movement is based rather heavily on the Reconstructionist movement, founded in 1973 by Rousas Rushdooney.
Rushdooney advocated violence to bring about a Christian state and squeezed Christianity into the distorted framework of fascism with the world being ruled by a Christian United States. Rushdooney dismissed the number of Jews killed in the Holocaust as an inflated figure and his theories on race echoed Nazi Eugenics.
Dr Tony Evans, the founder of Promise Keepers, gave Rushdooney’s extremism a more acceptable, less extreme public face. At rallies he would make impassioned pleas to exercise power within society as agents of Christ and called for a Christian state.
Evans was also the spiritual mentor to George Bush. This explains the rise of the distorted Christian right wing worldview as espoused by Bush, Tom Delay, Pat Robertson and Falwell.
Christ’s message of love, forgiveness and compassion is ignored and Jesus is painted as an avenging warlord with no connection to the figures in the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. The Jesus who turned the other cheek and embraced his enemies, a startling and radical idea at the time, is completely removed in a selective purging.
This ideology is also being taught at Christian Schools and Christian home schools with the help of the America’s Providential History – its standard textbook.
In it, its authors argue that God has called the United States to become "the first truly Christian nation" (page 184) and "make disciples of all nations."
As in the case of Islamic extremists, "What convinces masses are not facts, and not even invented facts, but only the consistency of the system which they are presumably part. Repetition, somewhat overrated in importance because of the common belief in the "masses" inferior capacity to grasp and remember, is important because it convinces them of consistency in time." - Hannah Arendt in Origins of Totalitarianism
Like the Islamic extremists they claim to fight, the Christian Right will not stop until we are governed by their draconian interpretation of Biblical law.
One form of extremism is merely being replaced by another.
No, I hardly try to get around something I know nothing about. That's the same tired phrase you throw about when you can't really refute a point put forward. Relegating it to circumventing and circumlocution is cute - a great way to (seemingly) dismiss something but, like any ad hominem argument it doesn't prove what I have said wrong, only that you don't agree.
I full well understand the question but put Bush forward as an example of how equally messed up a leader you proud Americans, who refuse to accept the fact that he is one of the worst presidents to ever lead your country in much the same way Mbeki and the Iranian idiot are, have.
Circumventocution!
"Metamic - I throw that phrase around when applicable, as it is in your case, usually." - Nope, you merely copy the screaming banshee squad of Malkin, Coulter and Bruce et al with their equally extreme views. Come up with a better defense. Because you insult me doesn't mean I am wrong, just that you don't like me and what I say - it doesn't make what I say any less true. |

THE BIGGEST LOON BY FAR IS AHMADINEJAD, AND CLOSELY FOLLOWED BY THABO MBEKI.
As far as GW Bush is concerned he did the right thing, he may come across as a buffoon but his heart is in the right place, he is just a good old boy from Texas. |
