Dominic!

Who else is leaving South Africa?

Well, after 12 years as a Trauma Nurse in the South African public health system, I am finally off. Today was my last day at work and next month I start my new job in Australia.

I always told myself that I'd remain faithful to the system and the people I work with. But, I dont think I would cope with the increasing pressure of working 'in the hospital of death' anymore.

I will miss a few things, family and friends for example, but I know in the end I'm making the right choice.

You will not regret your decision. Yes, you will be home sick, which can last as long as a year. But after that its pretty much plan sailing. We moved to New Zealand almost 9 years ago and certainly have not regretted leavin SA. As for SA produce, there are generally SA shops all over which stock the foods you may miss.

All the best in Aussie and you won't regret making the move. It will be a great free feeling living in a safe, uncorrupted country.

Best of luck to you!

Sounds like you deserve so much better than they could give you.

Well done - a decision well made!

Good for you. I hope you will be happy in Australia. It's a loss to this country when people like you leave, but you're making the right choice. Best of luck.

Good for you, I hope you find a peaceful existence there.

I am currently doing a BA in university here so I must still stay here for another 4 years. But as soon as I get my paper, I am sooooo gone. I'm going to go to Europe and I swear I will never come back here.

Dominic: Well done, mate. Your life will be so much better. Good decision to have moved away from the land of unappreciative savages!

I left 6 years ago and have never looked back. No more beggars, no more fearing for my safety or that of my family, no more stinky, primitive, loud hordes to contend with. Brilliant!

That's great my friend. We don't blame you at all..!
I have already left and although I miss it I am becoming more happy where I am now. However, I'd rather be in Aussie!
My uncle is in Perth and he has never looked back!
I hope to visit him soon and perhaps if I like it I may join you in leaving but for now I am somewhat content.

Many people are leaving in the next year or two so you are not the only one! Stay in touch with us and let us know how you are doing! Better yet if you have Facebook join us there too!!

I left South Africa 3 years ago and have not regret it once. I`m just worried sick about the safety of two of my children that stayed behind. I hope they will leave too...

Did it--in 2006. Also in Aus. It often reminds me of SA, so ya, it'll be cool. Just depends where you're off to, though.

It takes a lot of guts to pack up and leave the Country of your birth and your Family and friends especially when you are forced to do so by a corrupt and racist junta. This is an interesting article I found for you and I hope it gives you strength in the "bad" times. Good luck -there will be many joining you in the years to come.

Good luck - sorry to see you go. You might be surprised to know that in my family all my cousins are leaving as soon as the finish there studies, they do not believe that there is a future in this county. I have 6 cousins they are all going.

Best of luck! I am in no doubt at all that you will find it is the best thing you have ever done. I left SA 3 years ago for the UK and I will not be going back. Life on the other side is much better. Missing the friends and family is difficult... but a good web-cam chat helps ease missing them. My only wish is that the rest of my family will get out SOON!
