GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Gaza's Hamas prime minister publicly set his conditions Wednesday for a cease-fire with Israel to end the fighting that has killed dozens in recent weeks.
Ismail Haniyeh demanded an end to Israeli military activity in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, a lifting of Israeli economic sanctions and the opening of Gaza's borders, which have been sealed since the Islamic militant group seized control of the territory last June.
"We are talking about a mutual, comprehensive calm, which means that the enemy must fulfill its obligations," Haniyeh said in a speech at Gaza's Islamic University. "The Israelis must stop the aggression ... including assassinations and invasions, end the sanctions and open the borders."
At least Hamas has come to the table with an offer. Peace!

I should say from the outset that I am Jewish & Israeli, but try to view this dispassionately, for the sake of my 2 young children.
PA television has been broadcasting on a daily basis for several months, a hate-filled music video calling for the ethnic cleansing of the Jewish people from Israel, consistent with other Arabic-language hate messages currently being disseminated.
The song incites Arabs living under Fatah's rule in Judea and Samaria to fight to the death to rid the land of Jews, assuring them that, through this, they will ultimately prevail: "You have no choice, oh enemy, but to leave my country," it says.
PA TV first aired the music video in 2004 and resumed its broadcast in October, 2007. It was broadcast throughout the Annapolis conference as well as during US President George W. Bush's visit to Israel, and it continues to be aired on almost a daily basis.
Now, Fatah are supposed to be "the moderates", with whom Israel is negotiating; how much harder to negotiate with Hamas, who consider Fatah to be a weak puppet organization, in the pocket of he Western world?
Imagine a Christian walking into a Hindu school & opening fire on students as they were learning their holy books…… Then imagine that, not only had he murdered eight young students & wounded more than 30, but just try to visualize groups of Christians breaking out in song & dance to celebrate this "Brave victory".
It's impossible to do so in the civilized world. But this is exactly what occurred in the recent Hamas terrorist attack in Jerusalem. The act itself was not only horrific & cowardly, but what took place afterwards in much of Gaza & in many parts of the Arabic world was downright revolting.
Thousands of Hamas supporters came out into the streets to rejoice at their “brave Arabic martyr” who had the guts to shoot unarmed students as they were sitting & studying. Adults in Gaza passed out candies to the children & to passers-by who were honking their car horns in mad support. This display is indeed frightening, but it is also enlightening, for it shows their true colors for everyone to see.
Islam under Hamas & Hezbollah has proven itself to be anything but a religion of peace. One needs only to look at nearly every hot spot on the planet to see that somehow, in some way, & usually very directly, the Moslems are frequently there making chaos, destroying, killing - all in the name of their “holy” beliefs - in Russia, Indonesia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe & the USA.
On February 20, 1998 in London the Azzam Organization, issued the text of a dua (a prayer-sermon instructing the believer how to answer the call of Islam) to be read in mosques worldwide during the key Friday prayer. The Azzam Organization reminded the listeners and readers that Prophet Muhammad decreed that "indeed Dua is the weapon of the Believer."

Israel is not the only country that they have their sights on. Moslems are taught that eventually the Koran will rule over everyone & everything. However, for Jews who are happy being Jews, & Christians who want to practice their faith & Hindus who aren’t interested in embracing Islam, then, as the Moslems themselves have shown time & time again, it’s by any means necessary to rid the world of lower class “infidels.”
Despite receiving $billions in foreign aid, the Gazan leadership spend most of this aid on buying weapons, bombs, rockets, missiles, & training their young ones to hate & kill Jews, Israelis & other "infidels".
One difficulty for Israel, is that Hamas constantly move the goal posts........ following the disengagement from Gaza in September 2005, the world expected peace in the Middle East. The problem is that the terrorist mentality viewed this as "weakness", and the rocket attacks on Southern Israel actually increased - at present, the residents of Southern Israel are dealing with 5 or 6 rocket attacks every hour.
In the meantime, our captured soldier, Gilad Shalit, may or may not be alive; a sure thing is that his captors are not following universally agreed procedures for the capture & detainment of foreign nationals (whether during a conflict situation or otherwise).
To wrap up - All of Israel is committed to peace. Hamas has declared that it can & will never make peace, because it refuses to acknowledge the right of Israel, or the Jewish people to exist. |
