East Jerusalem belongs to Jerusalem, which belongs to Israel, which is Israels capital.Before 1865, the entire population of Jerusalem lived behind the Old City walls (what today would be considered part of the eastern part of the city). Later, the city began to expand beyond the walls because of population growth, and both Jews and Arabs began to build in new areas of the city.

By the time of partition, a thriving Jewish community was living in the eastern part of Jerusalem, an area that included the Jewish Quarter of the Old City. This area of the city also contains many sites of importance to the Jewish religion, including the City of David, the Temple Mount and the Western Wall. In addition, major institutions like Hebrew University and the original Hadassah Hospital are on Mount Scopus ā€” in eastern Jerusalem.

The only time that the eastern part of Jerusalem was exclusively Arab was between 1949 and 1967, and that was because Jordan occupied the area and forcibly expelled all the Jews.

Although it is illegal to sell land to Jews in east Jerusalem many have sold land for high prices to Jews (not all are Israelis). This is why you see Israeli flags within east Jerusalem. This is also why you see IDF soldiers within those areas.

Is this occupation? No. Why? by mere definition the land was won in war in 1967. No one called the Jordanians occupiers. By not calling the Jordanians occupiers one implies that the west bank is Jordan's land.

So how owns it? The Palestinian authority and Israel. Why? The PA cannot handle the security situation in its territory. During the Oslo accords an Interim period was established before a Palestinian state could be created. Arafat agreed to this period because he admitted he cannot control the security situation.

Should Israel give up land for peace? Of course but it also means that the Palestinian leadership needs to diverge its money away from war and into their culture. This way, the Israelis cannot use anymore excuses such as defense. If there truly were no rockets............no suicide bombers.........no stabbings.........Israelis would be the obvious aggressors.

Entire Jerusalem (including what some refer to as "East Jerusalem") is under Israeli sovereignty today. All past and current Israeli governments refused to cede Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem in any agreement. So Jerusalem always was is ans will be forever the capital if Israel belonging to All Jewish people.

Cooment to kingbaby: Near to Diplomat hotel in Talpiot (a district in Jerusalem) a new building is being built right now which is designated to be US embassy. I pass it from time to time. So much for your delusion about US not recognising Jerusalem as Israeli territory

If you look at an older map Jerusalem was part of Jordan, Israel fought Jordan and won, Jordan didn't want the land back so again it belongs to Israel.

If you look on any map you will note that East Jerusalem is part of Jerusalem.

And the entirety of Jerusalem in the capital of Israel.

The question of ownership is answered by the fact that each dunam or building or field is ordinarily owned by its owner, and not by the sovereign power.

The promise that is the basis of the term "promised land" is contained in Genesis 15:18-21 of the Hebrew Bible:

"On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abrham and said, "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates - the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites."

The verse is said to describe what are known as "Borders of the Land" (Gevulot Ha-aretz). In Jewish tradition these borders define the maximum extent of the land promised to the descendants of Abraham through his son Isaac(2nd born-the Jewish lineage and Ishmael the 1st born and the Arab lineage) and grandson Jacob.Even according to Jewish customs, the oldest son, which is Ishmael, is entitled to the father's inheritance, but because Sarah despised Ishmael, she wanted Isaac to get the inheritance and had Abraham exhile Ishmael. Neither is Ishmael illegitimate but the legal son of his SECOND wife Hagar-Genesis 16: "And Sarah Abraham's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abraham had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abraham to be his WIFE(my emphasis).

The promise is made to Abraham and the descendants of his son Isaac, and Isaac's son Jacob, Abraham's grandson as they are all given promise that their descendants will be given a territory from the river of Egypt to the Euphrates river.No where does it say the Israelis/Jews OWNED the land, nor were they to take it from, and, kill the Palestinians. The Israelis/Jews were given a land ONLY to reside in as many Jews already had among the Palestinians.God clearly states whom the land belongs to-"the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites." Of all these people, only the Palestinians whom are considered Canaanites, are still around. Except for Iran and Israel, Arabs own all of what was Canaan.

It is Israel whom is illegally occupying the West Bank and Gaza strips, illegally building Jewish ONLY settlements and buffer zones from land stolen from murdered INNOCENT civilian Palestinians using machine guns and tanks.It is not the Palestinians cutting off power,water, food, medicines, and jobs-just HOW would YOU protect yourself from annhilation by occupiers if your government couldn't?

BOTH SIDES MUST NOW STOP THE KILLING OF INNOCENTS AND RECOGNIZE EACH OTHER'S RIGHT TO EXIST. INSTEAD OF DIVIDING JERUSALEM, IT SHOULD BE SHARED AS A CAPITAL. ARABS AND JEWS ARE VERY CLOSLEY RELATED, SIGNIFIGANTLY MORE SO WITH THE ARAB PALESTINIANS

Palestine and the Palestinian people.
That's why the U.S. will not move its embassy there from Tel Aviv - because it is illegally occupied by zionist forces and the U.S. does note recognize Israel's occupation.
