Why Are There Many Jewish Settlements?

In the West Bank?

Is Israel so special that they no longer need to follow international laws?

A question to Paperback Writer: Sorry, a bit random but is the Old Testament and the Torah the same thing as some Christians claim? You seem to be the most knowledgeable person about Judaism so I'm asking you...=)
Additional Details
ha: My ethnic cleansing? Now I know you've lost your mind. By the way, there was no need for you to answer my Judaism question. Thanks anyways

Theres a difference between a 'neighbourhood' which is legal and a 'settlement' which is illegal. Didnt you know that?

Whats ur point!?
Look at how many palestinians have settlements in Israel!! (Jewish Land)...
What makes them more special than Israelis!?
Hm!?
Wait, so what's ur point!?

Greenie M
to many for you?
i think you have a fine magnifying glass if you were able to spot the west bank in the map and many-many jewish settlements in it ;)
so you don't think we have the right to settle in our own country?
hmmm...that's too bad, but not very original of you. many people think the way you do, that the arabs haven't enough states and lands :))
and that Israel have to give some from her enormous territory.

btw, could you explain which international law/s forbid it?
maybe the same ones that forbid the jews to defend themselves from flying rockets?

Kevin S
Everyone keeps asking this but it is very simple. Israel believes the UN was unfair. If it gave Jordan to the Arabs........why should arabs be used as a political tool. Anyone who denies that Israel wants the west bank is delusional.

"Palestinians can be followers of any religion, not just Islam :)"

Yeah but unfortunately much of the christian population has been driven into Israel and America.

PaloChick.......why is that almost every one of your responses has been copy and paste?

Because the West Bank is part of Israel.

There is no international law that says they can't be there. Jordan took control of that territory during the 6 Days War but Jordan no longer wants it. So, it's basically undeclared territory.

I personally wish Israel would just go ahead and annex all of Samaria and Judea. They obviously have had every legal right to after the 6 Days War, just like Poland annexed 10% of historic Germany (East Prussia); Morocco controls the Western Sahara; Armenia has controlled 15% of neighboring Azerbaijan since 1994; Turkey has controlled half of Cyprus since its 1974 invasion; Russia has controlled the Kurile Islands off northern Japan for 63 years and China has occupied Tibet since 1950.

Then they could tell the squatters that have trashed that territory with their slums to get out and go back where they, their parents, or grand parents came from before they migrated there.

That's what 22 Arab countries have done to 1,0025,000 Jews since 1948.

Your Friendly Jewish Accountant
Why are there so many Christian "settlements" all over America?

Do we have to qualify a response?

And the Torah is close to the Old Testament except we didn't mangle the translation and kept it in Hebrew.

We have the Torah, the prophets and the letters.

I agree with Sabrina, what is your point?

The Bible says we can settle there- but that's not the point. I understand that is not applicable to you because you do not believe in our Bible. This is understood!

However, this is our land- the tiny sliver of land of Israel situated between 22 Islamic countries. We are just extending our land to where we belong.

And don't claim these are illegal settlements. We gave away all of Gaza for peace. Please, enough with you nonsense.
Another thing:This land we are settling in was won fair and square. It boggles my mind why land won is illegal as the terrorists claim- anyone want to explain?
If this is the case, all of America is illegal. They won it in war. War of Independence- they settled in their land- Using the "palestinians" logic, this land is also illegally settled. It's a good thing are government isn't run by these creeps, right?

One more thing:At least we care about our land and take care of it. See Gush Katif:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gush_Katif#Palestinian_attacks

Read about it. The Jews made this land prosper. It was a vibrant Jewish community. Beautiful. We give to the Arabs and what happens?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel%27s_unilateral_disengagement_plan

Again, these settlements are just for our good.

Zionists claim that those settlements are for protection of israeli citizens, those settlements make sure that palestinians revolutionists wont harm Israel.

PaperbackWriter JPA
The 'old testament' is the Church version of the entire Tanakh. The Tanakh comprises Torah, Prophets, Writings; these are the original Hebrew scriptures that, for instance, Jesus would have read. Jews still read them today, usually in Hebrew.

So the OT is not read by any Jews. Some versions of it are actually really good, but alas others involve serious mistranslations, and reorganisation of the actual material.

The Torah is the actual holy text :)

(I know a number of Christians who are actually now reading good translations of the Tanakh, and enjoying it. Likewise, I have now a copy of the Christian bible, and have found some lovely writing in it, though other parts do have anti Jewish sentiments. I think it's great for us all to read each others' scriptures!)

To answer your post:

If you check international law, who owns the 'west bank'?

Israel hasn't actually violated any laws.

Jewish nations:
Israel

Arab nations:
Afghanistan
Albania
Algeria
Azerbaijan
Bahrain
Bangladesh
Benin
Brunei
Burkina Faso
Cameroon
Chad
Comoros
Djibouti
Egypt
Gambia
Guinea
Guinea-Bissau
Guyana
Indonesia
Iran
Iraq
Jordan
Kazakhstan
Kuwait
Kyrgyzstan
Lebanon

Mauritania
Morocco

Nigeria
Oman
Pakistan
Qatar
Saudi Arabia
Senegal
Sierra Leone
Somalia
Sudan
Suriname
Syria
Tajikistan
Tunisia
Turkey
Turkmenistan
Uganda
United Arab Emirates
Uzbekistan

Israel = 10,000 square miles

The 21 nations in the Arab League = 5,000,000 square miles

So 10,000 sq miles of land is too much for the Jews - yet 5,000,000 is still not enough for the Arabs?

Palestinians up until Israeli Independence included Jews. As to the Palestinians--they are NOT A PEOPLE except for the fact that they occupied Palestine.

because they want the land

they took 80% of it

why do they want more?

the only solution for them is ethnic cleansing.

indeed, white imperialism is bad

Hi. There are Jewish "settlements" there because Jewish people have a right to settle there. Palestinians cannot rename the territory West Bank and lay claim to it and try to show that there is no Jewish entitlement to the land. The name "West Bank" is an artificial English name. The correct name is Judea and Samaria, Israel region, Judah is our largest tribe, Judah is our namesake, it is Judean land, and we are Jews and it is not against the law to settle on one's own land.

Some of the Holiest Sites in Israel are in that territory and there has been Palestinian desecration of them. The territory is not Palestinian only territory and the sooner Palestinians realize this the sooner we can all coexist. They are welcome to live there but if they have issues with having Jewish neighbors then the Palestinians will have to be the ones to move out.

There never was such a thing as a distinct Palestinian people. To make word plays and semantics and invent new names has just been attempt to erase Jewish history and Jewish rights to the land and ethnically cleanse Jewish people out. I do not secede any territory to hostile people who use means of terrorism and violently demand their own space.
---------------
Edit: Hi Priya. I said Palestinians because they are the hostile ones, as not all Muslims have issues with Israel having sovereignty over the land.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBvPx75FLYs

Palestinians do not have a distinct ethnicity or culture apart from any other Muslim Arab unless one counts suicide bombing. The Arabs have already admitted that this was a tactic to challenge the Jewish state and history and scholars show the are not a distinct people.

"The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa. While as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan." -- PLO Executive Committee member Zuhayr Muhsin, March 31, 1977, interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw."

"You Arabs admitted that the [Palestinian] cause began after 1967. The Israelis can sue you now, if they sue you they will win."

After they lied their way through Oslo, the zionists thought it would be up for grabs, especially when Jordan relinquished it's claim to pave the way for an eventual Palestinian state. But it has repeatedly been ruled an illegal occupation by the Un and "Israel"s sole claim to legitimacy is a UN resolution from, 1947,so they obviously don't have a legal existence or they are illegally occupying the Palestinian Territories.

Can't have your cake and eat it to.

As Israel gave the West Bank to the Palestinians, most generous as it was not there's to give anyone immediately it was invaded by illegal Jewish settlers despite a UN ruling, Even their government made a token move to evict them but now seem content to leave all 280,000 of them there. Here is a typical example of one of these "caring" settlers

Lady Lulu (2)
Most if not all settlers do not believe in the peace process, they don't want to give up one inch of land. That is the purpose of the settlements, to derail the peace process. They know if enough settlers are there, there will be no way of moving them, so in their mind, the more the better. It is their way of land grabbing, and then the government says they have to protect them, so they make a new buffer zone, annexing more land, and so on and so on. Stealth and patience is the name of the game for them, and they are hoping the rest of the world is stupid and won't notice.

Why there is Israel?

You never going to get a true answer to your legitimate question and here is why:
Most Settlers are business men and they are in it for the money.
Some of them bought houses in Settlements thinking they are buying houses in Israel or for cheap houses.
Most Settlers are not religious.
Settlers are nothing but a colonists.

^ PaLo ^
"Israel has created in the Occupied Territories a regime of separation based on discrimination, applying two separate systems of law in the same area and basing the rights of individuals on their nationality.

This regime is the only one of its kind in the world, and is reminiscent of distasteful regimes from the past, such as the Apartheid regime in South Africa.

Under this regime, Israel has stolen hundreds of thousands of dunam of land from the Palestinians.

Israel has used this land to establish dozens of settlements in the West Bank and to populate them with hundreds of thousands of Israeli citizens.

Israel prohibits the Palestinians as a group from entering and using these lands, and uses the settlements to justify numerous violations of the Palestinians鈥 human rights, such as the right to housing, to earn a livelihood, and the right to freedom of movement.

The drastic change that Israel has made in the map of the West Bank prevents any real possibility for the establishment of an independent, viable Palestinian state as part of the Palestinians鈥 right to self-determination"

They are part of a long-term plan to accomplish a Jewish demographic majority in the West Bank - they are called "facts on the ground" - which will theoretically neutralize the idea of a two state solution; i.e. by turning the WB & Gaza into a Palestinian state. The concept is the demographic majority will constitute a de facto annexation which will eventually become acceptable in the world's eyes as a de jure annexation. Good luck on that one. This current approach - dramatically accelerated after the what-a-joke playing for time that was "Oslo" - is only resulting in endless bloodshed and completely alienating world opinion even in the U.S.

As we see from the Zionist responses they are evidently unaware that their dream-come-true solution is far from accomplished; with their usual flair for fantasy wish-fulfillment they simply pretend that the WB is part of "Israeli" territory. I'm afraid not. The UN and it's members recognize the sovereignty of what is legally the Palestinian Territories. They cannot become a de jure state as long as they are under occupation by a foreign power, since a precondition of statehood is demonstrated control of one's territory. It is not "Israeli" territory and it's never going to be. Eventually the U.S. will have to force out the IDF to fulfill their commitment to a Palestinian State since they obviously are not going out willingly. Their presence there is highly illegal as are the settlements; that isn't a matter of legal debate,it is resolved - long since. Zionists think because they can get away with lawlessness for a while they can get away with it forever. I think they live in a fantasy world. And reality is about to pounce. In the nastiest kind of way.
