Because they are. Have you ever seen what goes on down there during their period? My wife knows to stay away during this time. |

Jewish women are NOT considered filthy and dirty when they have their monthly cycle.
The prohibition is against sexual relations with their husbands during that time. In order to avoid ANY temptation, the husband and wife are not allowed to touch each other at all during that time.
It is simply a precaution, because human nature is what it is.... |

Ritually impure, not filthy and dirty.
Not that people are not allowed to touch them, but their husbands.
When the Temple is standing, there are further restrictions concerning holiness, but all will be revealed when the Messiah comes. |

No no no....
I hope you're looking for a real answer, not just a criticism on other peoples beliefs.
The words are incorrect. During a females menstrual cycle, she's considered "not apt".
What this law does is protect women from engaging in Sexual activities with her husband. It's actually a Torah ordained "time-off" from her marital duties |

filthy and dirty are the wrong words to use, but after their cycle they have to go to a mikvah, to be pure again,
read about it here http://www.jewishmag.com/124mag/niddah/niddah.htm |

If you are serious consider that unclean has nothing to do with hygiene. It is representative of a spiritual presence.
My ancestors kept separate and special lodges for women then. Still seems like a good idea to me. None of my wives agreed though.
Why you feel it necessary to use those words make me wonder just how serious you are. |

Why does this Arab asker delight in ideas with sexual connotations, I was wondering.
His own religion must make such thoughts very appealing. Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 64 -Narrated 'Aisha: that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he had sex with her when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death).
Hadith 1:229: I used to wash the traces of Janaba (semen) from the clothes of the Prophet and he used to go for prayers while traces of water were still on it (water spots were still visible).

only the husband can't touch her, see answers of others... it also helps to keep the marriage alive... after 2 weeks (1 week period and 7 clean days) you are dying to get in bed with your wife... seperation makes the heart grow fonder. this is really true! i see it from my own marriage... |

We are so lucky to live in a modern world!
Blood born pathogens are a common source of illness; ancient people did not know about germs, but any group that developed taboos relating to blood exposure were likely have less illness, and therefore compete better with other tribes.
Ancient Hebrews are far from the only culture known to consider the womanly cycle as VERY taboo.
With modern hygiene improvements many of the old rituals are outdated or even silly dogma, but as one person posted above: at least they have rituals to keep clean at all! |

Thank God, we the Western people have evolved, came out of our caves, invented philosophy, medicine, literature and .....anti-septics! lol!
I have no problem if our Jewish friends still live in the 30rties chasing microbes and bacilli with voodoo and superstition.
Excuse me if I still say that Israel is a cancerous little country that needs a strong disinfectant very soon.

Go back in your Bible and study it, then you will find out what I mean.

Most likely the reason is that women are more likely to get pregnant in between monthly cycles. |

The Law of Moses states that women who are having their monthly cycle are unclean. I'm not sure if its still the case nowdays. |

It is true and they share that belief with Muslims. These 2 religions also share the belief that pork must not be eaten. These customs must have a common origin. |
