Why are muslem arabs better off living in israel, under israeli goverment, then in gaza?

Arabs in Israel have equal voting rights; in fact, it is one of the few places in the Middle East where Arab women may vote. Arabs currently hold 8 seats in the 120-seat Knesset. Israeli Arabs have also held various government posts, including one who served as Israel's ambassador to Finland and the current deputy mayor of Tel Aviv. Oscar Abu Razaq was appointed Director General of the Ministry of Interior, the first Arab citizen to become chief executive of a key government ministry. Ariel Sharon's original cabinet included the first Arab minister, Salah Tarif, a Druze who served as a minister without portfolio. An Arab is also a Supreme Court justice.

Arabic, like Hebrew, is an official language in Israel. More than 300,000 Arab children attend Israeli schools. At the time of Israel's founding, there was one Arab high school in the country. Today, there are hundreds of Arab schools.2

In 2002, the Israeli Supreme Court also ruled that the government cannot allocate land based on religion or ethnicity, and may not prevent Arab citizens from living wherever they choose.2a

The sole legal distinction between Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel is that the latter are not required to serve in the Israeli army. This is to spare Arab citizens the need to take up arms against their brethren. Nevertheless, Bedouins have served in paratroop units and other Arabs have volunteered for military duty. Compulsory military service is applied to the Druze and Circassian communities at their own request.

Some economic and social gaps between Israeli Jews and Arabs result from the latter not serving in the military. Veterans qualify for many benefits not available to non-veterans. Moreover, the army aids in the socialization process.

On the other hand, Arabs do have an advantage in obtaining some jobs during the years Israelis are in the military. In addition, industries like construction and trucking have come to be dominated by Israeli Arabs.

Although Israeli Arabs have occasionally been involved in terrorist activities, they have generally behaved as loyal citizens. During the 1967, 1973 and 1982 wars, none engaged in any acts of sabotage or disloyalty. Sometimes, in fact, Arabs volunteered to take over civilian functions for reservists. During the outbreak of violence in the territories that began in September 2000, Israeli Arabs for the first time engaged in widespread protests with some violence.

The United States has been independent for almost 230 years and still has not integrated all of its diverse communities. Even today, 60 years after civil rights legislation was adopted, discrimination has not been eradicated. It should not be surprising that Israel has not solved all of its social problems in only 60 years.

The S,

You have to see the mansions some Arabs build in Israel. You cannot imagine how many villages and small towns are inhabited by Arabs. As I drive along the coast from Ashkelon all the way up to Akko, or on route 6, I see literally dozens of Arab and Muslim towns - I know they are Muslim towns because of the gorgeous mosques towering over.

Second class citizens my foot, some of them have more money than Israelis. Just like any other country, there is always a group who like to call themselves second class citizen. Don't some African Americans call themselves the second class citizens of the United States? What about the Latin people?

Though I am CERTAIN Palestinian supporters will not "buy" any of it, here is some information you might want to read on the subject:

Me I think that Israelis are better organized. It is much easier to work for an "organized" "boss" than for a "less organized" one?

When I was in Israel I found Israeli Arabs to be enjoying life and just as friendly to me as Israeli Jewish people. The negative responses you are getting about being treated as "second class citizens" are from people who have never been to Israel.

They got the best of two worlds and freedom to do what they like.....they can watch porno , they can drink alchohol, they can travell they have one the best medical systems in the west.......they can protest against the goverment. Let them try it in Gaza they will be shot on the spot.

rhapsda
In Israel they have equal rights. They can vote and have elected representatives in parliament. They receive (like everyone) free health care and a state pension. They can also live where ever they want. I work with an Israeli Arab who lives in Tel Aviv's affluent and exclusive neighbourhood of Ramat Aviv and attends university at the state's expense!!!

They live in a democracy and enjoy all its benefits.
There is a lot of suspicion towards them, but that is because they are not viewed to be loyal to the state. Anyway, all countries have some sort of problems with minorities.

acool816
there are currently 1 million arabs in israel, all with full citizen rights. this means they can enjoy the same standard of living in israel as all citizens (this standard is pretty high compared to all other arab nations). gaza, to put it kindly, is a mess. the government is a terrrorist orginazation, not to metion that they cant run a government. gaza is also one of the most densely populated places in the world, making the standard of living subpar. the fact that they are always fighting with israel (and sometimes egypt!) doesn't help.

Simple. Under Hamas in Gaza the people are not allowed much. They are forced to give money to fund the Hamas child killing group. In Israel the governments looks after them unlike Hamas who tortures the people daily. Simple.

riviva
Because in Israel they have many more rights. If they actually wanted to be Israeli and not destroy the state, they could fight for even more rights in society.

Israel provides them with more jobs and a better economic situation. Life is calmer. In Gaza people are frequently not paid for their labor, they have no freedom of movement, they have to suffer Israeli strikes, their government is in turmoil and screwing them, there are issues getting basic foods and essentials in and out...

Because the Israelis work hard to promote not only their economy, but they respect the land. They have made desert land "bloom & rejoice".

006
They have more rights there (although different rights than the jewish israeli citizens), than the people living in gaza.

BMCR
For the exact same reason why Muslims are better off living in America or any other Western style democracy.

Its called democracy.

Oh, and the economy too.

Surely they ARE "better off", but that doesn't mean they are living in equality with the Jewish citizens of Israel. I'm currently reading a fascinating book on this subject that I highly recommend by an British oleh named Susan Nathan called "The Other Side of Israel". She went to live an an exclusively Arab town in the Galilee and her understanding of the nature of Israel and what life is really like for "Israeli Arabs" changed profoundly in the process.

But more directly to your question, Arab citizens are at least afforded some legal protections, whereas the people of Gaza are more or less so much collateral damage in the never-ending tat-for-tat between the IDF and those who dare to oppose it.

Because the IAF doesn't bomb it's own territories

HopelessZ00
If that were true than why have so many arab Israelis immigrated to countries like Canada? And by the way , here, they call themselves Palestinians , I'm sure there some do also. Cheers!

Majority of Israelis Want Gov´t to Encourage Arabs to Leave
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/103312
by Ezra HaLevi

National Union Chairman MK Rabbi Benny Elon, whose Moledet Party advocates offering incentives for Arabs to emigrate, said the results were not surprising. "It is illustrative of a desire on both the right and the left - and sometimes more of the left than the right," he told Arutz-7's Hebrew radio. "The Disengagement was even based on this desire to separate from the Arabs."

This is a very intelligent question. I congratulate you for bringing it up.
The answer is that MUSLIM ARABS in Gaza, live under the Israeli blockade and daily shelling and bombardment of their homes since almost 2 years. Israel does not allow food, oil and construction materials to get into Gaza.
Regarding the second part of you question, MUSLIM ARABS in Israeli live in their homeland under the Israeli occupation as second class citizens. No equal job opportunity, education, or housing. The share of MUSLIM ARABS who are almost 35% of the Israaeli population , their share from the Israeli budget is less than 5%.

because the israelis are not bombarding them with rockets in israel, other than that they are no better off, unless being treated as second class citizens counts as fair treatment.

The Palestinians in Israel have suffered a lot from 1948 to 1966 they were living under the British emergency laws. Today they are suffering under Zionist governmental organization laws like Karan Kayamat land and housing which has laws only to serve Zionist Jews only. The Palestinian in Israel have long way to go to have full citizen rights in the Zionist state. The Palestinians in Israel are 25% of the Israeli population and some people want to call Israel a Jewish state.

?????????

Let me guess, because in gaza under zionist control, they are starved, imprisoned, tortured and murdered.

Living in ersatz israel under zion, they just have to suffer racial hatred.

The best thing for Palestinians would be to kick the zionists out; live in their own land under their own government.

These days, under a zionist government, not even zionists are living well. many are starving, without work and suffer from lack of education.
