Because it´s unsafe!!!

It´s against their laws, and wherever you are, you must abide by the laws of the land, not common sense, or the laws of your own country.

I don´t know why you would want to go to a place where you´re not welcome, in any case.

Gigi
Hi!

Yes, it is true you cannot drive. Regarding now state rules, you surely can go out without an escort. You can also travel inside the country without an escort, either by train/car, plane or boat. You can also stay in a hotel alone, using your ID or passport.

My only recommendation is that if you venture into a different environment to yours, it is always good you do your 'homework' first, so you have a grasp of the different mentalities. If you succeed in that, then you know how to work through almost everything.

Noone bothers you, as long as you abide by the rest of the rules- that is why you need to know them. In the contrary, people will show respect and help you on your way.

The simplest example: You know how many female students travel weekly between Riyadh and Dammam, if they are registered at universities in the capital? The majority.

A woman with command can reach the moon, let alone travel from one side to Saudi Arabia to the other;)

Now, whether your family would have an objection is another matter, but has nothing to do with the general regulations.

Also you can enter Saudi Arabia even if you are a girl. Are you sure your relatives are following your visa application thoroughly? If they do, you will get it.

Best wishes.

Hey, that's offensive. Don't blame Islam for that.
Of course the Qur'an doesn't mention that women can't drive.

The male escort thingy is because of the community here. When my family first came here, my mom didn't cover her face. She realized that guys here were staring at her and she feels very uncomfortable with that. So then she covered her face. You need a relative or your own brother, father or a person related to you by blood. You can also come with your sister if you want. I think the law is that women may not come here unescorted by someone. If it's a male, then it has to be someone that's related to you. If it's a female, then I think that anyone can be your escort.

About the driving, you would be HELL pleased that you were never in a car here. Here, they drive like CRAZY. The guys drive and speed like they don't care about their lives. What I don't understand is that these people are in the birthplace of Islam. This would give a misconception about Islam, as you think Islam is. It's the community that is wrong. They need to educate themselves to be a civilized nation. Why, my female friends in the international school have to wear the abaya or black cloak to school to avoid "unwanted eyes." Well, they remove it after they're in the school boundaries.

They do these to protect the women. If that is indeed, why not educate the men to be more respectful to women than keep the women over-segregated?
They protect the women. The women here do not need that sort of protection, especially when it lowers the position of women in Saudi. Instead, teach the guys to respect women!

It's unfair that a 12-year old kid can drive a 4-wheel GMC uncaught and a woman can't drive her children to school when the husband does not care about his family anymore.

It's not only you that thinks that this is unfair, even I as a Muslim think that this is off the wall.

zackkkkkkk
who told u that cuz u a girl cant enter sudia ?? i think the best answer for u and others who just hear from ppl they dont no nothing is call da airline and askthem that q , and i am sure they will be laughing at u azz . i hope u get it .

Yes, I think some cultures don't realize that woman can do the same thing as men. They disrespect. And for the answer above , she obviously knows it is a law but is irritated by the sexism. I hate that also. Since when could a man not do the same harm to a place as a woman. It is since a long time ago that woman were not obligated as a part of culture. The stupid thing is, that many cultures rely on the woman to do household deeds..but where would they be with out the woman? And they go out and do labor for their families but what family would there be without women?

Having lived and worked in KSA, I can assure you that there is nothing particularly sinister in your refusal of a visa.

Most unaccompanied women, entering KSA are either holders of employment contracts, or are the dependants of residents/expats. These women will have guaranteed addresses in the Kingdom, for the duration of their stay and somebody responsible for their welfare and good conduct.

You have to remember that slavery is still a part of their culture, so unprotected females are particularly vulnerable.

Unfamiliarity with the local mores and culture is so problematic that newly arrived women often get into trouble, because they wander into men-only zones, or associate with eager men, only too happy to indulge in a bit of sport with an innocent abroad!........... and that can lead to prosecutions, which can result in imprisonment, or worse! (most often these innocent transgressions result in a PROSTITUTE stamp across the unfortunate's passport.......... as they get deported).

I suggest you read, regularly, the Arab News:
http://www.arabnews.com/
I think this might educate yourself as to the extent of female problems in that type of society!

Often, the most serious danger to women comes from their Police and Muttawahs. I remember a case, in Taif, in which a serial killer attacked a number of Expat Female Nurses......... The perps turned out to be a group of Saudi Police.

Saudi Arabia also has problems in keeping "working girls" at bay. Once they are in, protectors happily cover their tracks. It is a significant social problem in the Kingdom.

I could go on ad nauseam about the specific problems for unattached women in KSA. Just read the Arab News!

............judging by the tenor of your question YOU would almost certainly fall foul of their laws!............

you have to have a man with you because its in the Islam religion (for Muslim ) a woman have to stay with a man (not any man ...just her husband , dad , brother ....etc ) , and if you weren't Muslim .. its not necessary ' but its for your own safety from bad men...
as for driving ..... they don't let women drive because Saudi Arabia is Conservative community and it might lead to bad stuff. although .......I think they are going to aloud it .

and who said that women can't do any thing in k.s.a
most of the stuff they are working in it

Hmmm....I'm a girl and I entered Saudi Arabia a few months ago on vacation with another girl. We are 23 and 25 years old.
True, it is safer if you go with a male, but there is no law prohibiting girls/women to go to Saudi Arabia on their own.

They don't have slavery in Saudi. Unless you mean sex slavery, which is everywhere.

If I were you,I wouldn't go period. U say U got a grandmother over there? I assume U got a grandfather, or uncle or some other male relative? if that side of your family are Saudi Muslim, don't go. They could have themselves named as your primary guardian, and keep you there forever. A woman can't leave saudi without her primary guardian's say-so. I could be wrong about that, but I know that it happens to foreigers whose husbands arre Saudi (if you're married, ur husband is ur primary guardian). They go to Saudi thinking it's for a visit, and then they get held here.

Any law has its own stupidity but law is the law. People have to obey it, otherwise chaos.

LaiYoOothY
i find it ignorant too, they force women to follow the islamic laws in a wrong way, islam doesn't want that.
and while they don't let women be free, the boys are so bad.

I'm iraqi, and I'm not proud of saudi arabia to be an arabic country.

Ask me
who said that you can't visit Saudi Arabia because you are a girl. Get a VISA and come. It is true women can't drive but they can get a cap and go anywhere.

You can argue all you want, it's their laws and their country. They may have their opinions of how we do things. Their history and culture goes further back than the US.

I'll you what, go complain to the Bush family, I heard they're "tight" with the Saudis!

Women can not travel alone or go outside without a mahram. It's in the Qur'an. If you don't like it then don't become Muslim or go to a Muslim country. It's as simple as that. Personally I'm an American Muslim and I like that idea. It's to protect the women from the world and herself because there are many dangers in the world for women. Driving is a culture thing in Saudi. The men are like bats out of Hell there with the way they purposely try to run you off the world and kill themselves and all the men are doing stunts with their cars there. It's actually funny if you watch it. You can enter Saudi Arabia if you have a mahram or male sponsor from Saudi Arabia. You just can't enter Mecca or Medina unless your Muslim and can't book a hotel room under your name.

Because as a woman, they think you are worthless and will tempt men, so their solution is to keep women locked up as slaves.
