You are assuming they want peace and that they wish to dwell in harmony with the Palestinians. That is hardly suported by anything we've seen since 1936 and in particular since 1948. They wish to eradicate them - period. Either by killing them or by forcing them into exile,in any event disposing of them. They have no desire to dwell with them and they love any pretext fro killing them,espcially children since the jews are preoccupied to the point of obsession with the Palestinian birth-rate and what it foreshadows for a jewish-majority nation. They have no desire to avoid killing Palestinians; they seize every opportunity to do so. Do not be mislead by public or official statements. The last thing the zionists want is to end "the cycle of violence" at any point prior to the complete annihilation and/or expulsion of the Palestinion people. The only peace they are interested in is a successful ethnic cleansing campaign. Followed by an ethnically "pure" jewish state. Until then peace is not the agenda. Killing Palestinians as fast as possible is the agenda.

I am bewildered with the question. War is about "eliminating" the bad guys, in the process of "eliminating" them innocent people sometime die. When "wanted" criminals are located and a shootout begins both, the good guys and the bad guys, will do the best to finish the others, children are killed because the "wanted" are in the same location as civilians, mostly done by the "wanted" on purpose.

When you accuse the Palestinians of hiding behind women and kids, this is all bull crap, as these people are not stupid, and realize that women and kids are the Jews favorite targets. They are usually un-armed and easy prey.
Now, you also say they have no right to send rockets into Israel, just why not? Israel thinks nothing of shooting hell out of civilians with tanks, gunship helicopters and military aircraft, plus artillery.
If they are so compassionate, and know for sure where their targets are, why do they blow hell out of an area to kill one man, why not use their brave soldiers to arrest and detain him, or isn't that enough fun?
Next, why the constant name calling of terrorist? if Israel and the United States had not succeeded in dis-arming the Palestinians, then they would have the necessary military equipment to defend themselves, and there would be no need for these home made rockets, and for sure, the Jews would think twice about their incursions into the Gaza and other places they do not belong.
The Israeli's actually created the terrorist they are now trying to defeat, and it's not going to happen.

The main problem here is both the nations have civilians who just want peace. It is responsibility of the governments of both the nations and the United Nations to try to sort out the problem for the sake of humanity (If there is still value for a human life left on earth)

I know what you mean. The problem is when Israel sees the rocket fire they aim directly at this. What happens then is that the Hamas killers pulls a child in front of him in protection and says Israel hit the child.

The Hamas terrorists, by launching their rockets and mortars from civilian neighborhoods, are using their fellow Arabs as human shields.

I would not reward them by granting them immunity from Israel.

The Hamas are heartless terrorists who consider it a gain if they have killed Israelis and a similar gain if they have caused Arabs to be killed.

Hamas is responsible for the Gazans killed by Israel, and they know that.

I agree with Zeno, Shimer. Israel doesn't want peace, and all the talk of "Hamas militants hiding among civilians" is the Israelis' way of "rationalizing" the number of deaths they inflict.
If Israel had peace, they'd have no reason to continue their incessant land grab (there are new settlements being erected in the West Bank as we speak.) The Israeli government will gladly sacrifice an occasional civilian to keep their agenda going. And without being able to perpetuate the "victimhood" myth, Israel would have to give up billions of U.S. taxpayer-generated dollars annually.
It's not in Israel's interest to be at peace, and they're making sure the Americans pay (literally) for their crimes.

You read the highly influential writings of Rabbi Kook and his Gush Emunim folowers and reflect that this element now dominates politics in Occupied Palestine,and it is painfully obvious that peace is not part of the zionist plan. As Kook said, "Wherever there is war,the messiah is aroused".

In Israel the concept of Innocent until proven Guilty is Guilty if found being persistently Arab or associating with Arabs.

Under that definition they can kill who they like. The corpse is always labelled a terrorist anyway.

gee, when Hamas parks a missile launcher beside a school or hospital, then lobs bombs into villages and cities in Israel, do you really expect Israeli troops to NOT try to remove that missile launcher? If the cowardly palestinians use children and sick old women as human shields, they have to expect some of them to be killed.

After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, would you have suggested that the US not fight back unless they were sure that the only people they would hurt would have been the actual people who were involved in attacking Pearl Harbor?

Israel already has such a policy - to limit civilain casualties. If they did not, they could just carpet bomb the areas where the missles are launched from.

What you are suggesting is only applicable in a conventional old-style war, where armies fight against one another on a battlefield, and soldiers wear uniforms.
Nowadays, guerrilla-style warfare is in use, and militants unfortunately hide behind women, children, and civilians.

I agree with you that would be ideal, but the problem with such a policy is it would encourage the leadership of those combatants to constantly surround themselves with children.

While Israel should go to great lengths to avoid civilian casualties (even more than they do now) to make such a blanket statement is simply unworkable.

Sounds good in theory,but in reality it wouldn't work. Maybe using snipers would be more civilian/kid friendly though. It is a circle neither side seems willing or able to break,but neither side really treats the other as human. Some of the other answers are saying it is war and the innocent die too. Is that acceptable on both sides or just if one side has innocents dying? Human shields are used by both sides and innocents die on both sides,you can't accept/blame it on one side and not the other.

added. As you can see a big part of the problem is people only notice the other sides wrongdoing. There was a bible verse about that,It is in the NT though. I also notice someone felt so strongly about this subject they posted(and probably thumbed down) with two of their multiple IDs,I guess they couldn't say it in one post.

The cycle of violence model is a myth. Shooting up the highschool has nothing to do with Gaza; in fact the only group that claimed responsibility thus far actually pegged it to the assassination of a very high-ranking Hezbollah terrorist, which was clearly deserved. The cycle of violence model was invented by the media to equate both sides (standard media policy) and perpetuated by terrorist elements among the Palestinians to justify the unjustifiable.
It is impossible to only kill terrorists (not "combatants" by the way) as they specifically hide among civilians. Contrary to popular belief, Israel does not just fire randomly into civilians; each strike is targetted at a terrorist, while efforts are made to minimize the collateral civilian casualties.
