Why do so many egyptians and arabs smoke cigaretes?

same thing why do many americans and Europeans smoke. however these are some few reasons of why i think they do it:

1) an intention of not living long, but they don't know that they are doing it for the reason to not living long, and i believe it's like killing yourself without realizing you do it for that purpose. for example, if you warn someone of how danger the smoking is to health you may hear a comment such as "oh come on, it's ok!"

2) movies show cool manly men smoking cigrates, so it's an image of higher or manly status.

3) getting addicted as they believe that it may relieve their stress.

4) just like boredom, people look for anything to eat. they do smoke instead.

I know, Arabs are the heaviest smokers in the world.. I'm a smoker myself, I started smoking at the age of 12..The main issue in Arab countries is that you can buy a pack of cigarette even if you're 10.. Which is too young to understand how harmful cigarettes are, and how hard it is to quit.. So you get hooked at very young age, which makes it even harder to quit when you're grown up enough to know the dangers of smoking..

I'm sorry to tell you that the video does not make any difference, I know how bad smoking is, but I'm used to it.. It's very addictive, you don't get headaches or anything, but you just need it for no reason.. Talking about it right now made me want to smoke a cigarette.. It's weird, and unexplainable.. You have to be a smoker to understand what I mean..

I think this is not an accurate accusation , Europeans and Japanese are heavier a lot than the Arabs ,, you can ask them why?

To believe me look at this map it shows that the Europeans and the Asians are heavier smokers than the Arabs ,, actually the Arabs smoke less/the same like the Americans (surprise)

btw cigarettes are cheaper in Europe than in any Arabic country,,,, wait before thumbing me down!!! In Eeurope its price 4.5/5.5 euro /box,,,, in Egypt is 8.5 pounds,,, Now the unit is euro or pound, (relative to the cost of living),, (you can not say the euro is 8 pounds as it is practically one pound as a unit) so the price in Europe is 4.5/5.5 UNITS... and In Egypt is 8.5 units,,, so it is actually cheaper in Europe than in Egypt

Now that the Western world has seen through the cynical advertising of the tobacco companies,they have moved their campaigns to these countries.Lets hope they see it quicker than we did.

In the west, it is heavily taxed, quite expensive and its losing it's 'cool' persona. Smoking is declining at an alarming rate (for tobacco companies), this is hitting their profits hard.

So they have for the past decade ruthlessly bombarded eastern markets with campaigns to increase smoking. Its cheap and unfortunately the youth still think its 'cool'.

Don't forget to add the Europeans to that number of heavy smokers. I think that there has been more education in the United States about the pitfalls of smoking than in Europe and the Middle East. It has taken many years but most Americans now know all the reasons not to smoke. Those who continue to smoke do so with the knowledge that what they are doing is not healthy. Particularly Middle Easterners do so ignorantly.

in some eastern cultures it is thought that smoking relates to a higher hierarchical status of being of the upper class as being in the ability to afford such luxury as they may proclaim. some also see it as having power as all dictators smoked for the same reason. but obviously some may not understand the health risks involved in there bid to be perceived as being of a higher status.

i think they smoke it in egypt cuz its some trend n every1 does it and then u start doing it cuz ur frendz do it. i hate it like when ur talking to a guy or walking past someone all u see is the puff of smoke in ur face i think its disrespectful when a guy is smoking while talking to u its also very unhealthy for the ppl around u
