Why do we have to listen to prayers? |
why is it that 5 times a day we have to listen to prayers? dó we have to be reminded? don't u think it is annoying having to listen to 5-6 different calls for prayers at the same time? Additional Details I am a muslim and I do not see anything wrong with my question!!
A lot of people agree with my point of view and it seems that some of you are simply fanatics who rush into juding others!!!
Well, no wonder the egyptian government is considering the unification of prayers.
Again I agree with fozio, if you need a reminder use your watch, mobile or alarm. |

It sure is a shame and i am really glad most of the people here are open minded enough to agree. It has nothing to do with Islam, at least during the early days of Islam it was done with out a microphone. No where in quran does it say that it has to be done, so it is more of a habit, rather than an islamic teaching.
We also have to remember that during the rise of Islam, there were no clocks, alarms, mobile phones, tv etc. There was nothing to remind them, so they had not choice.
The mess that is created happens when 10 different mosques call for prayers at different times. The least that can be done is unify.
I personally think it should be banned. Those who want to be reminded can set their own alarms. |

I'm not Muslim but I've lived and travelled in the Mideast. At first, I woke up for the early morning prayer but I soon learned to sleep through it. I grew to really like the sound and hearing it would signal various things to me (i.e. time to leave the office!). It's no different to me than hearing church bells ring (I now live near an Armenian cathedral that has several bells at different times and my university had regular church bells on the hour).
It's one of the first things I notice when I'm back in a muslim country...and it's one of the things I actually miss when I leave since it brings back so many memories when I hear it. |

How about finding a solution ???
We live in a high tech era. We need to be organized
One mass call (Adan) controlled by one central high tech facility and broadcast throw out the whole city mosques in one voice and one time :) |

Personally it doesn't bother me. Early morning ones never wake me up because I'm a really deep sleeper. However, Egypt is a Muslim majority even if many of them are only nominally Muslim. And most of the Egyptians I know think it's quite beautiful and spiritual to hear the Adhan. Many like that the early morning call to prayer wakes them because it makes it easier for them to wake and do their morning prayers. If it were up to me a would at least play all early morning Adhans at a lower volume so it would wake less people, if you really want to wake up in time to do morning prayers buy yourself an Adhan alarm clock. I do know that hearing the adhan is one of those things that many egyptians living in America miss about being home. I can't say I've ever met an Egyptian that was annoyed by them. If you don't like it maybe you should move somewhere in which they don't play it. |

it's the only thing that remind us that we're in a muslim country , it's not bothering me AT ALL , they annoy the persons that won't even bother to wake up to pray or leave the pc to go pray , its not just a voice , it's a CALL FOR PRAYER , are u all nutsssss |
|

fleur581
|
I can't see why it's bothering you so much !
Egypt is a muslim country , so it's typical to hear the calls for prayers 5 times a day and as for the hearing different calls for prayers at the same time then that's because there is a number of mosques in your neighbourhood and you can't tell them not to call for prayers ! |

Egypt is a muslim country , and what u are hearing 5 times a day is part of islam and we should all respect religions , i studied in Lebanon for 2 years , Lebanon is a christian country ,church bells are part of the religion and the prayers , muslims and christians respect this , i never met a muslim complaining about the bells , people in Lebanon respect religions . this what we call peace it makes people live together . |

half the time i dont even notice it any more, but i do hate it when the mikes squeak or distort the noise as already mentioned, but what i really do dislike is when it is on the radios all the time in shops not just at prayer time and so loud i have to shout at the shopkeeper.
strange really most egyptians are such good buissness men you would think they would realise that its annoying when you have to shout to be heard. |

I agree with Casandra , Kalooka and Elf , they gave the right answers and explained all what can be said in this issue |

That's why they are thinking to make it unified to solve the problem of bad voices or misuse of microphones. By the way the volume of sound is limited by law to certain degree in each of the 5 times. |

Ok, I must admit, I am very disappointed with most of the previous answers here (I won't give thumbs down though!)
You need to keep in mind Egypt is an Islamic country. The calling for prayers is required and is very necessary. For Muslims, when they hear the prayers, they should repeat it after the Imam and by doing so they gain a lot of deeds. We are not living in this world just to enjoy life. We do enjoy it at its fullest, but we need not to forget about the hereafter which determines our last fate and destiny. Prayers are very important to Muslims and is called for in all Islamic countries. To me and it should be to all Muslims as well, listening to prayers daily gives us strength, hope, and we are fully satisfied listening to it 5 times a day! So how about the church bell that rings every hour, is it not annoying?
I hope you are not a Muslim asking this question, cuz if u r a Muslim saying that listening to prayers is annoying, then all I got to say is "enna lilahi wa enna ilayhi raji3oon..." |

because simply u r in an Islamic country and if it bother u u have aloooot of countries we dont need for ur majesty to visit us |

It's just misuse of technology mixed with lots of religion misunderstanding..and the most obvious is the very bad voices most have these days.
I love to hear the prayer in the air, but like before, only one is hearable and others are low from far away, the man saying it was usually with nice voice..
Now it's a mess..especially the Friday prayer on microphones..i m against that..it is supposed to be who wants to listen come down and pray.. |

You are right!!
It is very annoying, why do we have to listen to prayers? and with many mosques in the same area, we have to listen to them all.
It is noisy, annoying and we should stop this noise pollution |

I agree it is awfull if they are so loyal why do they have to be shouted at to come and pray. our hotels every morning 4.00 wake up its still dark ,so whats it like at ramadan. do'nt think i'll bother, is it the same in other islamic countries i wonder,
i am signing this on behalf of mr t and the welshman
