Yes, I have been there. I lived 4 years in Lesotho, and spent much time in OFS, Port Elizabeth, the Garden Route, Cape Province & Jo'burg. Part of that time was in the 70s during the darker days of Aparteid, and in the 90s and the thrill of the release of Nelson Mandela; tears brought to my eyes by the assasination of Chris Hani and the excitement of majority freedom. Spent many, many weekends in Bloemfontein along with availing myself of medical, shopping, entertainment services. Oh, and don't forget Ladybrand & Lili Hoek.
So, yes, I've been there. Despite the fact that you come on strong; much stronger than the many South Africans of all races that I met there, I will still say that I have extremely fond memories of the country and my experiences there.
On the other hand, you must remember that RSA has it's history to live down, and you cannot deny current difficulties, so I'd suggest you be more forebearing, show frfiendship & understanding and extend yourself to share and educate opinions rather than accusing us of talking sh*t. |

Actually I heard that South Africa is a very nice country, although it still harnesses many of the racial tides that kept it apart for years. Although I have never been to South Africa, or any other country in Africa. But I wish to go there some day, when I join the peace core. |

Most of these Americans envy our heritage and the fact that we know our roots and where we are coming from. Its funny that they speak such "twak" about us or our country and in the very same breath we get the Oprahs and Will Smiths who land in South Africa and comfortably announce that they are happy to be "HOME"! (The last i heard the slave trade hadn't reached the South so they aren't South African!).Don't worry about uncultured fools who envy us! |

Well...... the Americans..... still have lots and lots of racism. So...to point fingers to other countries is the best way not to attract too much attention to their past and present racism...
But they DO like to defend their borders in other countries.... LOL....but you can relax, South Africa has no oil, so the Americans may not be tempted to defend their borders there. |

Not all Americans talk sh/t about South Africa. You are stereotyping them. I hear people talking rubbish about South Africa from not only America but from lots of other countries too. Don't bring yourself down to the level of the people who talk sh/t about South Africa. You know what is right and what is wrong and people have said something wrong about South Africa then try to educate them about it. I know a lot of people have quite a bit of bad things to say about South Africa and they haven't even been here but try to ignore them or correct them. It does get annoying and you will get angry but don't let them get to you!
