Why does Israel have the right to have nuclear weaopns but Iran doesn't?

Israel has a right to defend itself against the countries surrounding it, but why don't they have the right to defend themselves against Israel? Israel is a powerful country, it poses a major threat. And why does America get to choose who can and can't have nuclear weapons?

The Seeker I
First of all I think No Country Should Have the RIGHT of Having Nuclear Weapons !

How can a Nuclear Weapon be Used as a Defensive Warfare !?
How can it be Used without Killing Innocents !?

Second the Reason is Tyranny of a Few Powers Ruling Others in the World , Its Just Like "We Command , You Obey"
SO all these laws and Sanction an UN stuff are their tools and useless unless THEY want them to do sth .

To me Israel is not a Powerfull Regime ( I dont accept Israel as a Country) , Its just a Fragile Rotten Regime ...Just like a Spider web .Looks Scary but inside it has nothing Scary

Insha'allah If Israel Would be Fool Enough to Attack Iran , It would be removed from the Earth once and Forever .
Even Though Arab Brothers would Be Just observing as they use to do !

And At the End Dont Forget that We are Legally Enriching Plotuniom For Peacefull Matters not Making Bombs
Which is all being Observed and Proofed .

You are absolutely right. Thats what I dont understand either. America and Israel have the largest numbers of nuclear weapons and then when any other country (north korea, iran) is just suspected of having one, everyone freaks out. its not right that america gets to choose who can and cant have nuclear weapons.

Iran does have the right to own nuclear arms, and that's why Iran is going to build (or already have built) a nuclear reactor- irregardless of what the United States and Israel think about it.

Brave Heart
Bcuz it is the close friend of lovely America....
Iran needs to make some good friends before using nuclear power.

Zeno
Iran has raised the point often enough,to no avail. You are correct; the zionists hold the world's sixth largest nuclear arsenal, which is obviously a sword of Damocles over Iran. Even if Iran had five or six or even ten warheads they would be no match for the enemy. They obviously want it for it's deterrent value, which is entirely legitimate. As to the western argument that Iran is not a responsible government, one could say the same of the zionist beast and with far more justice.

Ersatz israel has no such right. They do it illegally; against the international law. They question is, why are they not subject to international punishment.

EDIT Sneaky

Look at this zionists post.
"Israel had/has the worlds permission and has never threatened anyone, Iran doesn't and is threatening all."

First, ersatz israel has not admited to having nuclear weapons; so how can it have the words permission?

2nd, ersatz israel launched an attack on Syria recently to bomb a storage warehouse for some reason. That in itself is an act of war. before that they launched a war against Lebanon, and since then they have been continuously threatening Iran. Don't you read the news??

Seriously, you zionists are all liars.

No country deserves the right to have nuclear weapons; the fact that some do is a testament to global inequality. Iran isn't even trying to create weapons, just power.

Ironically, both Americans and Israelis are threatening to annihilate Iran. But no one publicizes that the way they do threats against Israel, do they?

America chooses because it is powerful, and because it has an innate sense of superiority and, by extent, control over the rest of the world. It isn't right and it isn't fair, but then, what is?

I'm not gona write a long answer, but I will be direct and superficial:
Iran is building its peacefull nuclear facilities LEGALLY, with the knowlege of the world and under the supervision of the international atomic energy agency, but Zionists lied to the world and didn't inform anybody about that; so this is why Israel has the right but not Iran.
The world up side down.

The Nuclear NonProliferation Treaty that was signed by the major nations that already had nuclear weapons agreed to try to prevent other countries from obtaining the weapons or means of making them so the world would not end in in a nuclear holocaust.

Iran has as much right to nuclear weapons as any other country constantly under threat of Israeli aggression.

The question I'd like to hear is this:
Can we, peace loving people make both Israel and Iran stop using the plutonium enrichment plants and shut down both facilities, once and for all?
Unfortunately, fanatics and nukes do not mix well.
In fact they make a very explosive substance, in my humble opinion.
Actually, I am more afraid of some fanaticism-blinded zionist Jews than the mild mannered Persians to push the wrong button whatsoever.
I maybe wrong on that of course but this is my personal opinion.

The more important question why is any country allowed to have them. There are already enough war heads in existence to destroy the world 60 times over. That much power should not be in any ones hands.
As for Iran, what do you think the would be the first thing that they would do with one, when their president has stated publicly that Israel should be wiped from the face of the earth.
Mean while, Israel has had nuclear weapons since 1967.
I don't think that ANY country should have them, but with certain regimes in place, I do believe that there are a few countries that should be restrained from even trying to attain them.
The thought of a country like Iran having nuclear weapons is just down right scary.
The weapons themselves are not that scary, it's the willingness to use that scares me.

Iran's leader has threatened to wipe Israel off the map. That is HIS planned use for nuclear weapons, if the world is foolish enough to permit him to go nuclear.

The plant was intended to produce "dirty" nuclear weapons for use against Israel and other Western nations, while Iran would go for a nuclear bomb. Tehran therefore funded the North Korean reactor in Syria. The radiological weapons made there were to be distributed to the terrorist organizations fighting Israel and used as leverage to control them.

“How would we use it? And where? No nuclear bomb has been used since World War II,” the Syrian ruler protested in the interview - three days after intelligence of his plutonium reactor weeks away from operation was presented to US congressmen in Washington.

DebkaFile's military sources stress that a single radiological bomb released by just one terrorist group against a major Israeli city would have been an existential threat to the Jewish state.

Assad’s first outright lie was his insistence that future Middle East wars would be conventional. DEBKAfile’s sources point out that Syria and Iran have recently supplied the Lebanese Hizballah with surface missiles capable of carrying chemical warheads. And Syria’s own air defenses are composed of Scud C and D missiles able to deliver chemical and biological weapons.

His second lie was that the site Israel raided last year was no nuclear site but a military facility under construction. To prove his point, he asked: “Does it make sense that we would build a nuclear facility in the desert and not protect it with anti-aircraft defenses?”

When Jimmy Carter allowed the Shah of Iran into the USA for medical treatment Iranians took dozens of USA diplomats hostage. I can only imagine what would happen if these same people had access to a nuclear weapon.

Because the Iranian government would use it for the wrong purpose.

Israel has them, and even though most Arabs want them eradicated from the planet, they aren't using them.

The Iranian government would use it. Even if they didn't, it could easily be passed onto someone who would.

Israel hasn't threaten to destroy Iran. Iran has threatened to destroy Israel, boosted about it.

Iran signed the non-proliferation agreement to not have nuclear weapons. They let in inspectors, so they haven't reneged the agreement & any advantages that came with it.

If one doesn't take Iran's threats seriously this problem won't make sense to look at. However, Iran is arming Hizbollah in the North, Hamas in the South, & is partnered with Syria in the North. So they are arming all around Israel. So, it doesn't seem idle.

It's not about Israel though. Once a country threatens another overtly, all other countries are at risk for their turn. That's the way other countries are seeing it, which are supporting getting Iran to live up to it's agreement.

Notably this includes all other Arab countries in the region. It's changed the political dynamics dramatically, where the Arab league is quietly supporting Israel. One major example - they didn't object at all to Israel during the Lebanon war, and only at the very, very end put pressure for a stop.

Spooky.

The First Dragon
Israel doesn't "officially" have nukes; they never asked permission and we don't "know" they have any. If they do, they have not used them, because we would know if they did.

bc israels leader has never made numerous public statements about wiping another country off the map

smarty
oh please

Israel's assumed nuclear deterrent is an option of last resort, needed to offset the threats it faces from the large imbalance in conventional arms, chemical weapons and ballistic missiles possessed by the Arab states. Israel has no incentive to unilaterally attack its neighbors with nuclear weapons whereas the Arabs — as history has shown — have both the capability and motivation to join in a war against Israel.

The desire of Arab and Islamic regimes to obtain weapons of mass destruction also has more to do with notions of national pride and rivalries with other than nations than Israel's arsenal. For example, Saddam Hussein used his chemical weapons against a domestic threat, the Kurds, and Iraq's motivation for pursuing nuclear weapons was the threat Hussein felt from Iran.6 Pakistan developed the first “Islamic bomb” to counter rival India's bomb. And Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi has said, “Iran has a high technical capability and has to be recognized by the international community as a member of the nuclear club. This is an irreversible path.”7

Arms control must therefore begin with a reduction in Arab military offensive capability. Arab “arms control” proposals in essence have only called for Israel to give up nuclear arms without offering anything substantive in return.

Its not an issue of who America gets to choose or not. Its an issue of "which country, if it possessed nuclear weapons, is a concern for America".

That being the case, America is concerned if nuclear weapons fall into the hands of a theocracy, of which Iran is. They are less concerned if it is in the hands of a democracy.

MikeInRI
Let us get one thing straight - the United States did not give Israel the right to have nuclear weapons anymore than it gave the right to Russia, China, the United Kingdom, India, Pakistan, France, or any other country that might have nuclear weapons today. All the US has the power to do is protest any other countries (like Iran) in having them and if the United States thinks it is in the best interests of the United States that Iran not have nuclear weapons then the US can choose to do something about it.

Good Luck!!!

possibly because Israel didn't sign the npt and hasn't threatened to eradicate its neighbors from the map.

First, this should be in a politics forum, not in travel. But I'll answer your question. The US gets to decide because we have more nukes than any other single country <joke>. The US is not alone in thinking it would be bad for Iran to have nuclear weapons, nearly all countries agree, though some won't say so publicly since they want to never agree with the US publicly.

Israel is very unlikely to use a nuke without major provocation, Iran is likely to do exactly that. Also, Israel is far from being a powerful country, but it does have powerful friends, including the US. It would be hard to sleep at night knowing that hundreds of thousands of your neighbors wish you dead and would blow themselves up to kill you, let alone letting them have access to nuclear weapons.

In some ways and at times, Israel acts as an unofficial arm of our government, doing things that wouldn't be politicially palatable for US citizens. If they act alone to stop Iran's program it would be with the tacit approval of the US government.

As to whether they have a moral right to do this, it's up to you to decide. I think they have the right to do whatever they need to in order to survive, within certain limits such as the use of nuclear devices. An Iran armed with bio or chemical weapons would be dangerous, give them a nuke and they could buy a Chinese missile and in one swoop knock out all electrical devices in the US, costing us trillions of dollars and countless lives. Or they could use it (stupidly) against Israel, and provoke a nuclear counter-attack that would end in the deaths of millions of innocent Iranians who don't like their leaders any more than we do.
