IN A NUTSHELL ITS BECAUSE HE IS A PRICK!
N NEEDS TO TAKE HIS SHADES OFF ONCE IN A WHILE! |

Everyone has his or her "Legacy".
If Bono really cared about this cause, he would equally distribute 90% of his annual income to African Nations with "Real Needs". By "Real Needs", I mean nations free of radical warlords, dictators and Europeans tycoons calling the shots from their private yachts off the cost of Tenirife.
If Africa were free of greed, political power struggles and NGO's, (who quietly took the place of colonial powers) decided to shared the wealth generated in Africa, many of the problems now encountered by the native population would be alleviated. Hence, 4 in 5 individuals would now get to drink filtrated water, while taking generic medicine designed to suppress their respective disease's for an extra 2 weeks. |

He should set an example by giving some of his wealth to the starving in Africa, or nearer home to the abused women who were held by the Magdalene Sisters and not compensated. |

no we don't need bono to create awareness at all.Africa is its own problem where people with little skills ,especially in power who just don't have a clue on governance developed in the western world and Europe over many decades.of course u cant help anyone in Africa because corruption defiles right through the thought processes on the continent.the law of Africa will prevail, the bush shows us up where the toughest survive, the rest get eaten.funny thing i notice world wide is where ever ex Africans run away to they turn good run places into sh-tholes and slums.then turn around and beg like the world owes them.Bono i suggest that u give Ur attention to a far less ambitious project and put your efforts into somewhere, where fruit of your labour will be appreciated bro.
one last thing,I'm traveling south America at the mo 4 nine months, their r poor people here too but u so seldom see people sitting on the bonos of their behinds, with hands out.the only Africa i can say i enjoy is the wildlife aspect, and those who have mastered staying within the limits of their own culture. |

I couldn't agree more.
Not only is he ignorant, but a hypocrite, too. He cavalierly asks George Bush to spend the US taxpayer's money, when he has more money than God himself.
It's because of people like him that the thugs of the ANC were able to seize power in South Africa. |

Agh shame,
He doesn't really know any better and has all the angst and goodwill to get rid of you know. |

because it sells records if people think you have a caring compasionate side. |

I agree with one of the previous answers, why does he persist on raising aid from average working class people, when he has millions of dollars in his personal bank accounts world wide, none of which sees its way into charitable bank accounts.
Stop being such a hypocrit and donate your own money first, BONEHEAD. |

stop bitching and moaning, and be glad of the fact that he helps us out. we need it. |

Give us a break Mr Cash, just what is it that you do to make the world a better place then?
Sure, he is an opinionated jerk, but since when did anybody have to be perfect to try to make a difference? His heart is in the right place, never mind how obnoxious he seems to be, he is having a go at trying to help people.
He did not get a knighthood for nothing did he? Where is yours? |
|

Marla Singer

How can you say he "has no idea". He's devoted the last almost 30 years of his life trying to end poverty. His passion and commitment is what has made him the icon he is today. Because of his "fame and power", politicians listen to what he has to say, so he can accomplish the things he sets out to.
The problem isn't with Bono, the problem IS with people that believe you need to be "part of the problem" in order to be "part of the solution". |

Our Man In Bananas

he´s less ignorant about the problems of Africa than you are and he understands that for change to take place, someone has to stand up and try to make change happen.
Of course, you are entitled to believe that he shouldn´t be worrying about Africa, but the reason he is doing this is because so many millions can have a better life if eventually they (DATA) are successful. |

Well, when the continent can't seem to find a way to get rid of a tyrant like Robert Mugabe, obviously SOMEONE needs to worry about African affairs. It appears Africans don't. |

actually i think you misunderstand the whole point he is trying to make. Bono is acting on Christian principles and tries to do some humanitarian good.
Then again, who knows? Maybe he is getting paid to do it?Ever thought why all of a sudden a lot of celebrities are spokespeople of the United Nations etc? |
|

welshman

maybe the same reason as you call yourself mr c and maybe he knows more than you think, we all have the right to our opinions. as you say freedom struggle. free from what excactly, you are contradicting yourself, |
|

Bridget

Yeah, shame on him for caring and trying to make a difference. What a jerk! |

Why is everyone having a go at BONO?
I think its because he cares it is as simple as that he is a good person.
Come on people!!
Why are South Africans like this. |

A while ago, I saw this guy bleating on about giving money etc to the charities, and in the following days newspapers, he was apparently looking to purchase an £8m yacht, hang on a minute, £8m, that would solve one of these small country's problems in one go. Until the corrupt leaders in these African countries are ousted and democracy restored, there will never be an end to it all.
Many of those of the same ilk as Mugabe, for instance, have stolen all the wealth from within the countrys' they lead, when they are ousted, then the money will be used for what it should be, but these 'celebs' who constantly harp on about US, the normal people, putting our hands in our pockets, could do so much more themselves..... |

I don't think Bono is sticking his ignorant nose in African affairs, he is only sticking up for what is right and makes people aware of what is actually going on.
Why is it wrong to wipe the debt of Africa? and to get rid of Mugabe? he is the most hideous man I have come across, he beats his own people, he takes all the money and spends it on protecting his on world and life style..!!! how can that be right...
I suppose you live in a country where you have freedom of speech and have not got a dictator that makes you do as they say..!!!! think on before you criticise others.
Or how about you stick your nose in and make the difference instead and come up with a solution for the African problem.!!! |

Publicity broer, publicity... (and being a hippy I suppose)
But are Africans complaining? Nah, at least he's doing more good than some African leaders...
JOKE:
Bono at a concert in Ireland starts clapping on stage whilst surrounded by complete silence. He goes on to say, "Each time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies"...
Then continues clapping, 'til an angry voice in the crowd yells
"Well then foocking stop clapping!!!"
Sorry, just had to write it...(",) |

He is an ignorant Mick who should rather stick to potatoes than involves himself in matters way beyond his intellectual capacity. I guess they are the conscience of Ireland ( he and Geldhoff) but flying into African Countries in their private jets and making appeals for money is a laugh. It is nothong more than a publicity stunt to raise a flagging career and I dont know anyone in England who takes him seriously. |
|

Evangelista da Messina
 |
I totally agree, Surely there's loads of Irish people he could be helping. |
|

David
 |
He wants to be called a saint like Geldof....It's this ego.
We can't keep poring money into Africa as we have done over several decades as it's like poring water onto sand.
They have to get ride of their fat greedy thieving leaders and feed the people, and they have to do it themselves. |
