Why don't Egyptians like to be called Africans?

I am Egyptian and I am extremely proud to be an African. In fact, I don't like being racially classified other than an African.

Egyptians are a mix of Arabs and then the Original Egyptians meaning the ones who can trace their ancestry back to Ancient Egypt (the Arabs trace their ancestry back to Arabia). So although Egypt is geographically located in Africa the Egyptians are not "African". It is like the Moroccans and Tunisians etc. in North Africa. All most all of them are white skin or light brown skin Arabs and Berbers (Berbers are the original people of North Africa and were there before the Arabs invaded). Some one being born on the continent of Africa does not make them "African" is the point that i am trying to make.

Yes Egypt is an African country, but in general The Egyptians and the north Africans are not considered African race that much
lets take a look to ethnic groups
1) Egyptians are the sons of Mizrim the son of Ham , along with some from Cush and Pont..
2) The sons of Mizrrim include the Egyptians and the old Philistines ,( The people who lived in the southern coast of Canaan, their territory being named Philistia in later contexts.and who had early cultural links with the Mycenean world in mainland Greece)
3) The Africans are the sons of Cush not Mizrim

4) THERE IS a seperate ethnic group called EGYPTIANS

5) Political wise and official wise the Egyptians are called : Caucasian (not African ) as described in most of the official documents in USA, Europe and Asia (see how they describe the Egyptians in the USA/Canada immigration departments)

So it is not the Egyptians ONLY , who do not describe themselves as African , it is the rest of the world

- Most of the Egyptians prefer to be called Egyptians , as an ethnic group, without any problem to be called African and politically Arabs,, After all Egypt is the lead member in both of the Arab league and the African league as well...(and historically wise Egypt used to help and still do that to both the Arabs and the Africans in lots of life sides )

no body calls egyptins as africans , so there is no one don't like to be called african
it's because usually africans are used with the sub sahara peoples , while egypt aand the other north africa's countries are called arabs , some times they are called africa's arabs
but if u call me african , it's ok with me and for sure most of the egyptians

The Egyptian Empire was the most powerful back in the days and that is mention in the bible and in the history of ancient Egyptians ... Egyptians are Caucasians .. they have a tanned skin and a little dark hair etc .. while africans have black skin .. very dark hair and so on.. you see the difference now!!

Arabs are Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Quatar and all coutries around that.
those people started invading other countries and spread Islam .. since Islam can't be said in any language it has to be said in Arabic.. so many countries up until now are sharing the language .. that doesn't mean they are arabs .. just like America and Britian .. all Americans were living in Britian .. they are now sharing the language ... but can't be called british anymore .. they are Americans!!

if its to do with continents, then ofcourse we are african, were not asian are we?and "middle east" is not a continent either.
i guess if you mean the "stereotyped" african:dark skin and like that, then i dont think we would fit into that category much, but also in south egypt there are some darker people, the nubians, but they are originally from sudan anyways.
i dont think egyptians dont like to be called africans because what other continent would we go to?

i think they thought africans like slaves or maybe coz they thought it is an insult from the forigners to call them africans as they made africans slaves time ago
