"First of all, the Palestinian Arabs do have a state. Its called Jordan. During the League of Nations Mandate period, the land originally set aside by the League of Nations as the Palestine Mandate was supposed to provide for a national home for the Jewish people. The British were given the authority to manage the Mandate and help the Jews make the transition to independence. Instead, almost 80% of the original Mandate land was carved out and arbitrarily made into the Arab country of Trans-Jordan (later renamed Jordan). On November 15, 1988, a Palestinian state was proclaimed by Yasser Arafat at a meeting of the Palestine National Council in Algiers. This was the second declaration of such a state, the first being at a meeting in Gaza in October 1, 1948 during Israel's War of Independence. Both the Gaza and the Algiers declarations are largely irrelevant today, notwithstanding that the Algiers Declaration received enormous attention at the time. Since the PLO did not control the intended Palestinian territory, it was only a symbolic act.

In all probability there will be an independent Palestinian Arab state some day, but only after the Palestinian Arabs find leadership that is committed to peace with Israel."

Maybe because there is no such thing as a Palestinian. There are Jordanians, Syrians and so forth. There are Arab Israelis and then there are those arabs who chose the wrong side of this conflict ended up stuck as political pawns by their own leaders.

It is obvious to me that most who post here have never been to Israel or they would not talk about Israel as if it is some large piece of land.

If you look at the current situation, palastinians regardless of their religion are able to get full israeli citizenship and be entitled to all the things israelis are.

Many of us do, and Israel is trying to create one. The only problem is that Hamas took over the Gaza strip and Hamas does not want peace and can't be negotiated with because they want all the land rather then a two state solution. So if there was moderate Palestinian governments in both Gaza and the West Bank a Palestinian state would be created as long as they promise to discontinue hostility against Israel after that.

There was never ever a Palestinian state and there is no such thing as a Palestinian nation, however these Muslim Arabs who have been calling themselves Palestinians since 1967 have been offered a second Arab state in Palestine(the first one is Jordan) several times by the UN and Israel, refusing every single time.
Why? because they don't want a "Palestinian" state, they simple don't Israel to exist.
And If you think this "Palestinian" state of yours will be free and secular take a good look at Gaza.

I don't think Israel wants a Palestinian state and will do everything they can to make sure it doesn't happen They have been playing a long game of cat and mouse designed to make the Palestinians look like the bad guys, which unfortunately some times the Palestinian leadership doesn't do much to make people think otherwise. I think they will do their best to fence them in, slowly annex more land, keep killing as many as they can until more and more leave, then when the numbers have dwindled they will kick the rest out.
The reason for this is they want all if the land for themselves, and after that, they will try to annex more and more of Lebanon and Syria, and don't be surprised if they don't stop there.

In the first place there is a great difference between living in a Muslim country, which is ruled by serenity, and open to occident and a Muslim country, which Hamas is trying to build. I just name Morocco, where the government guarantees the same rights to men and women and where religion is privacy and where you can live without fear being a Jew or Christian. You know very well how your Hamas government treats all the Palestine Christians… and if you did not get that information yet, I suggest that you infirm yourself in Internet… we all know that Hamas stands for radical and fundamental Islam, which goes totally against our idea of justice and personal freedom. So there is no way to live under Hamas government.
In the second place, why don´t Palestines agree to live under the Israeli flag??? I mean, look there are almost 20.000 Arab Israelis and they don´t have any problem to live between Jewish people. Because Israel guarantees them their integrity and free choice of religion as long as they fulfil their civil obligations the same way as any Jewish Israeli.
And to be honest, I don´t think that especially female Arab Israelis would swap their Israeli nationality for a Palestine one… because Israeli law does guarantee her the equality of gender – and Palestine law mistreats women with Sharia law.
In Israel it is a crime to hit a woman – In Palestine they call it “a legal education method”
In Israel you will get judged when you lock up your daughter and forbid her to go to school, study or work – In Palestine it is the right of the father, brother or any male relative to decide over YOUR life and everybody will give the man the right to convert his daughter in a analphabetic.
In Israel if you kill your wife, your sister, daughter, cousin or anybody you will go to jail… - In Palestine they call it “honour killings” and men are treated as if they were right to kill a sister just because she doesn´t want to take the veil, or his daughter because she doesn´t want to marry the man you have chosen for her, or your wife just because somebody saw her talking with a neighbour.
In Israel people can wear what they want – In Palestine girls and women are insulted (and even worse) in the street if they don´t wear a Muslim dress and cover their hair.
In Israel you get married with one person and if you want to divorce this person it is by a judge – In Palestine your husband can marry 2 more wives without even asking you and once he is fed up with you, divorce is as done quickly by a Mullah.
There are many more examples, but I simply take these few ones, because obviously you are a woman…
And in the third place: THIS IS ISRAEL!!! And although you don’t want to hear about it, Israel is a sovereign state and is officially recognized as an independent country by the UN and all occidental countries and most of the Arabic countries as well.
Palestine is an autonomic region and not a sovereign country till now. So it would better for all of you to use your talents in creating a sovereign Palestine state and accept the treaties… so you will have the country you always seemed to have dreamed of: Islamic state with Sharia law just as Afghanistan under Taliban regime… live happily with that if you wish so… but don´t ask for asylum if you learn that you as a woman will be worth nothing in Palestine…
You see, there is no way for us to live under a Palestine flag and Islamic law… you guys never knew to separate religion from government…

Maybe they think they are getting the short end of the stick. Jordan (the much larger half of what was originally called Palestine) was supposed to be the Muslim state, and Israel (the much smaller half) was supposed to be the Jewish state. Apparently that wasn't enough for the Arabs, and they are trying to shrink the Jewish state by violence and fear tactics. Israel has been making concessions though because their ultimate goal is to live in peace. They already gave up the West bank and the Gaza strip. But that isn't enough. Israel has to put their foot down at some point. Why can't the Israelis just be left alone. That's all they want. Let them keep what they have and leave them alone.

Many would. I would be overjoyed at a free secular Palestine because that means freedom of religion and freedom of speech would be Preserved. But you have no right to take all of Israel and convert it to this other state. Israelis should still be a part of Israel. I don't believe for a moment that Hamas wants a secular government - they want a mini-Iran out of all of the land.

You wouldn't be able to convince Hamas not to shoot up palestinians who play "unislamic" music if you tried. They've threatened Christians in the region too. Their biggest funds come from Iran, which has no freedom of religion and executes converts from Islam, gays, adulterers - and discriminates against women.

Why not a two state solution ? Get the religious extremists out of Hamas, get the suicide vests off of children in Hamas schools and you will have it made.

Your solution is extreme because it demands this:

1. Destruction of Israel in total
