To grant them permanent status as in to give them citizenship, would be tantamount to saying that Israel had defeated the Arabs permanently and that all hope of regaining Palestine is lost. Of course, surely all Arab country leaders must privately hold this view in any case, but it would be political suicide to admit that. It has never been about money. Surely, the oil states can well afford to help their Palestinian brethren financially, and they do on some levels.

But absorption has a political dynamic and an intangible psychological price that the Arab leaders, and indeed the Arab populations, I think, aren't willing to pay. While certainly Arabs sympathize with the Palestinian cause, at the same time it is my experience that the Arab public at large does not want Palestinians to be absorbed because they shouldn't have to be. The question is often asked, "Why should we help Israel get rid of the problem that it caused?" And besides, many argue, to absorb the Palestinians would be helping them to give up the struggle, and this is seen as a bad, even immoral, thing. So the general idea seems to be tough love in the face of the problem.

The Palestinians have always lived on Palestine/Israel. Why do the Palestinians have to leave their homeland to the zionists and go live in other people's lands, especially if those people hate them?

Can I ask, why don't the Americans abosorb all the Jews and give them a land on USA because USA is rich?
Also if you notice, the Palestinians aren't in anyways simillar to the people of the countries you mentioned. We have very different genes. Notice the difference in skin colour, culture, even the level of opennes. Why would the Palestinians live with people who are very different from them. If they speak the same language, it doesn't mean they are our people.

When the refugees fled they were placed in refugee camps. The Arab Governments refused to take steps to absorb the refugees or integrate them into the population. They felt that doing so would undermine the refugees’ claim to a right of return, and where reluctant to disturb their own population balances; a large Palestinian presence in Jordan and Lebanon led to serious conflict in these countries.

With more justice,one could ask why protestant nations do not absorb Jewish interlopers in Palestine and offer them permanent residence status.

Why should the Palestinians have to speak Hebrew when they could speak Arabic and have an Arabic culture in an Arab country such as ARAB PALESTINE although NOT Jewish Palestine which is FOR THE JEWS AND THEIR CULTURE. As the Roman senator Cicero said: Sese cuique (To each his own). The Arabs only make themselves a nuisance in Israel since they want to CONVERT Israel into ANOTHER ARAB STATE.

Are Palestinians the first refugee population in history? Hardly. But they are surely the first refugees who, as a group, have categorically resisted resettlement, instead living for decades as wards of the international community. Because then they would have to stop complaining about how bad "Palestinians" have it. Or better yet Israel can turn around and say how badly Arabs are treating the "Palestinians" HAHA considering "Palestinians" have a better standard of living in the territories than most of the Arab world.

Also Arabs have a tribal system, they are not going to let rival tribes just come in and get involved in politics and the economy.
