Why is there a Muslim Mosque on the site of the Last Jewish Temple?

Why do the Jews allow this?

There are several answers to this question.
Why is this site considered Holy by Muslims? It is the site where Muhammad supposedly was transported to from Mecca and then ascended to Heaven to speak with the prophets of old.

Why did the Muslims build a mosque here? Because that's what they do. They overthrow governments and religions then take control of cities and establish themselves as the true religion/government. Destroying or simply taking over other religious temples, building on holy sites and generally establishing their dominance through violence and oppression.
Al'Aqsa and Dome of the Rock are still there because to destroy them would cause a real Holy War or that is their threat. The Jews are still a huge minority in the Middle East and since the US reestablished Israel as their homeland, we have tried to keep the peace but they will never get along and it is just a matter of time.

How would you feel if a mosque was built on the site of 911 World Trade Center (ground zero) and entrance was forbidden (upon pain of death) to anyone who was not Muslim. Violation of this ultimatum being enforced by the threat of war against the US.

Galahad
Because it looks a lot better than that pile Herod built.

Salam Alikom, there are currently 2 Mosques on the Temple Mount.
This topic is sensitive and opening it will cause alot of fire.

Jewish temple? You mean that thing which you guys have been searching for the past 40 years? It is all fake and lies just like all zionist statements on this section
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6753063/

It is zionists in fact, who built their terrorist state on other's property and holly places. And according to a forthcoming report by the Human Rights Association in Nazareth, almost all of the Muslim and Christian holy places that existed in Palestine before 1948 have been destroyed, fenced off, locked up or converted for the use of Jewish communities...

Fatima
As a young teen, I use to ask the same question; it didn't make sense that Jews would tolerate a Muslim Mosque in Jerusalem...just as Arabia won't accept a Jewish temple on its soil.
Christians conquered Jerusalem from Arab Muslims during the first crusade and one wonders why they didn't destroy the Mosque. The truth is, Christians at that time had more hatred for Jews than they did for Muslims, they thought that the Muslim Mosque was a piece of art and converted it into a Christian Church for over 100 years.
The next time that Jews had access to Jerusalem was in 1948 when they declared independence...but for some reason they didn't destroy the Mosque neither did they try to stop Muslims from worshiping there; maybe the Jews are repaying the Muslims for allowing Jews to worship in Jerusalem while Muslims ruled Jerusalem for centuries.
Very interesting question.

Zeno
It is there because it was built on the mount of the temple to Jupiter the Romans put there,it was built out devotion and it is there because it is one of the world's greatest architectural and religious treasures and the reason Herod the Baby Killer's Temple isn't there anymore is because he was evil,as were all the Levites.

It's very pretty and certainly looks a lot better than most synagogues I've seen. Plus it's old enough to be a historical treasure.

chuck,
the Jews never had control over the land till 1948. They were always a minority.
And regarding that mosque, it is the 3rd and last temple. End of the Jewish myth.

So what you really are saying the Greeks that were in Palistine 5000 years ago must come and tear down everything built later then that.
The jews are the most recent inhabitants of this land.
It's been only 60 years son. You are wrong and you know it.

So that Muslims can pray.

The Jewish Temple is another lie. Jews can do nothing about it. Second Intifada was waged because the half-dead Sharon decided to visit the Mosque.

Come on ...get over it ! There are mosques right throughout the middle east that were once Christian Churches ....stop your bleating & worship God wherever !

If I recall correctly the Mosq was built around the year 700. There were many mosqs being built and this one of course was built over the site of the Jewish Temple because Islam is a conquering religion which throughout it's history built it's mosqs on the site of other religions temples. Judaism also has a huge significance for Islam since originally Mohammad (pbuh) had incorporated nearly all the Jewish laws into the religion and only after the Jews upset him by not accepting him as the final prophet did he remove most of the Jewish Law and changed the Muslim sabbath from Saturday to Friday. He also changed the direction of prayer from Jerusalem to Mecca.

The Mosq was unused and decrepit under the Turkish rule.

Amin Al Husseini who was founder and was President of the World Islamic Congress, who chose to swear allegiance to the Ottoman Empire and become an officer of it so he could participate during the Armenian genocide and later became heavily involved with Nazi's even advising Hitler not to deport Jews to Palestine but instead to pursue the final solution. In 1921 the Brits appoint him to be grand mufti of Jerusalem against the majority Muslim vote. People were scared of him and he was having intellectuals and political opponents assassinated in mafia style killings.

Amin Al Husseini starts restoring the Dome of the Rock and Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. He has the Dome gold-plated for the first time. Thereafter, Jerusalem takes on more importance as Holy Muslim site in the eyes of the Arab World as it is never actually mentioned in the Quran. It is widely believed in Islam that "the farthest Mosq" mentioned in the Quran where Mohammad(pbuh) ascended to heaven is this mosq.

The actions of Amin Al Husseini restoring the Mosq should be taken into context with his history and the politics and demographics of the day. Jews had a majority in Jerusalem until Amin Al Husseini orchestrated riots that drove the Jews out.

because its a historic site and the majority of Israelis are still Arabs and Muslims either you like it or not and if you destroy that historic site then you would get every Muslim nation on your door step. its like Italy decides to burn Vatican. your question is very retarded

Jews respect Islam?

Grace
Muhammad had a dream that he went to heaven from the site. Followers of Muhammad erected a Mosque over the holiest of Jewish sites. This is the fate of many religious structures that fall into their control. Contrary to statements by others Christians did not hate Jews more than Muslims. Muslims were aggressors Jews were not.

I can not believe that some people here called a place that echoed a holy name for centuries ugly.

Rommel M
The muslim religion was founded by prophet Mohamed during the 7th century A.D after the Judaism and christianism, which means that the Jewish temple in Jerusalem have already existed before the Al Aqsa mosque was built by Muslim invaders on 17 A.H or 683 A.D
Do you understand what this information means?

There is only one way to prove that the temple was indeed under the mosque. The WAQF has to let Israel dig particular places near the mosque (where it won't hurt the mosque)..........pieces should turn up. WAQF DOES NOT ALLOW THIS. People don't know that gemarra pieces were found near Al Aqsa. What does this tell you?

There is a sad answer to this question: the Mosque still stands because the Jewish people do not trust God. This may seem harsh, but read on.

On June 5-10, 1967, Israel was attacked by the countries of Jordan, Egypt and Syria. Before that time, East Jerusalem was under control of the Muslims; but during the war, the Israelis captured that area and drove out the Muslims. This placed the Temple Mount under the direct control of the Jews for the first time in thousands of years.

As a result of that new-found control, the Israelis had a choice: would they immediately destroy the pagan temple located on their holiest site, or would they leave it alone? There was even a General in the Israeli Army who admitted later on that the thought occured to him to level the temple, but he decided not to do anything.

Had the Israelis chosen to do this, the pagan temple would not be there today. Only God knows what blessings the Jewish people could have had if they had taken a step out in faith and destroyed it so their Temple could be rebuilt. But instead, they acted without faith and did nothing.

And so, THAT is why a pagan temple stands on Mt. Moriah to this day.

Greenie M
it is common practice the muslims use. i am from hungary and i learned in my his. lessons that during the turkish occupation of hungary they're destroyed or changed churches into mosques. but i have to admit, they also built nice turkish baths;) in other places of the world muslims destroy hindu/buddhist/christian holly places and also unique archeological sites that are not connected to islam

as to the second part of your question, what can we do?
btw, we're not allowed to our second holiest place, to Sanctuary of Abraham (Mеаrat haMachpela) in hebron as it "may anger the local population" and they built a mosque on it also.
and if someone jew dares to enter, the local population is shoot at them to kill, as it was the case when a group of settlers including woman and kids decided to defy our government's orders and went to pray there.
and Rachel's tomb, which is in Bethlehem got desecrated by the local population, and we cannot visit it, too.

israel is not a sovereign state, we don't have rights in our own country, nor to defend ourselves, nor to pray at our holy places.

Raul M SUPPORTS GREET WILDERS
Wow!! I read one user here said that that Mosque has been around since Abraham? You need to get your facts straight. The last temple that the Romans destroyed in around 70 AC was a Jewish temple. In fact the Romans sealed the doorways that the Jews believe that the Messiah will walk through. The Muslims THEN built the Mosque. Israel has the right to that land and their third Temple will be build there when God orders the time to do so. When God orders this Temple to be built, it will be done whether the Muslims like it or not. The Mosque will have to go.

mir miron
Most peoples that conquer have no respect for the conquered, so the Muslims built a Mosque on the ruins of the Temple.
After 67 Israelis could have, why didn't they, guess they figured G.D will do it for them.

Teresa (SFECU) -†- pray4revival
Well, the ugly truth of the matter is that it was put there because Islam preaches superiority of all other religions and faiths so wherever Muslims migrate to, they destroy whatever is Holy to anyone else.

The Jews left it there because they were having enough trouble fighting one war after another on top of several proxy wars with their Muslim neighbors so rather than stir them up again they've left it stand.

Besides, when the time comes, God will take care of it.

Touching this ugly pile of stones called mosque AlAqsa would damage the Wailing Wall. But I sincerely hope that some day the israeli engineers invent something which will permit to ruin it to hell without damaging the Wailing Wall.

As much as I would love to see that Mosque in pieces Israel doesn't want to stir up anymore issues with the muslim communities.

Honestly I think it's because it's pretty hard to destroy it with out hurting the Wailing Wall. Otherwise we would have gotten rid of it, would make things so much simpler....oh well...
