Because they don't want peace. Ben-Gurian designed it as a warrior-state and so it remains. Without war it would disintegrate out of sheer meaninglessness. |

Israel already tried that with Gaza. They gave Gaza its independence and walked away. No Jews were left in Gaza in 2005. What was the result? Rockets and suicide bombers came into Israel in greater numbers.
I doubt the result would be much better if Israel walked away from West Bank. |

Israel won't give up the West Bank because when the Palestinians or other Muslim Arabs control that area they rain rockets and mortars down on the Israeli people. |

Don't fall prey to the myth that the Arabs are merely seeking an end to "occupation" and "humiliation." If the Arabs truly desired peace and liberty, they could have achieved it years ago. They crave the destruction of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel! That supersedes all other of their concerns.
West Bank settlements [more properly called "Jewish communities of Judea-Samaria"] account for 2% of the land of the West Bank. In 35 years of rule, the Israelis have put 2% of the territory under the ownership of settlements. If we project that trend forward, it would take 1,750 years for the settlers to control all of the West Bank. Yet we are told this is the crux of the problem.
The so-called "Israeli settlements" in the Judea and Samaria (a.k.a. the "West Bank") and Gaza have been blamed for all the Arab-Israeli ["Palestinian"-Israeli] conflict when, in Truth, these settlements were the result of a war brought to Israel BY these very same Arabs! The "West Bank" territories from which Jordan attacked Israel in 1967, the Gaza Strip territory from which the Egyptian Army attacked Israel in 1967 and the Golan Heights from which Syria attack Israel in 1967 are today's so-called "Israeli occupied territories." Had these Arab nations not threatened to destroy Israel in June of 1967, there would be no Israeli "settlers" on these "occupied territories!" Have you ever heard of the expression, "To the Victor Goes the Spoils of War?" This would seem especially justified when the victor was attacked! Incredibly, "Israeli aggression" and "Israeli occupation" is what the Arab world now claims is the reason why there is no peace! |

The Israelis did that by leaving Gaza, and look what happened!!! Moreover, Israel was lambasted by the Palestinians for unilaterally leaving Gaza. Arabs and Jews do NOT share the SAME logic! If Arabs don't have Jews, they can only fight with themselves. |

Most people did do that. They are called Jordanians. |

because ultimatly the terrorist organisation currently in charge of palastine doesnt want peace. It wants the destruction of israel and death to all jews around the world.
Look at what happened in Gaza. Israel gave it up. Hamas used the area to fire rockets into israeli territory instead of housing the palastinians they claim to care so much about.
Israel holds onto the west bank for defensive reasons. if it gives it up - hamas will just use it as a terrorist base.
Land is not the real key to peace here. Tolerance is. No matter how much land we give up hamas and its kind will always want more and theyll continue to use land as an excuse to kill israeli civillians.
the real key to peace is tolerance of israel on the side of hamas and all muslims and an understanding that jews and israel are here to stay.
when they accept that then the serious peace talks can start. |

Because when they did that with Gaza, that didn't turn out too well.
I've seen your posts, i disagree with a lot of your points, but i know your not a stupid person. But can you really say that letting go of the west bank would secure peace in the middle east.
------------
Edit: I think i answered that question with the first statement i made.
I only truly believe that the west bank should be handed over when the Palestinians are able to elect a civilized government.
I would like to speak more about this with you.
If your interested, please feel free to email me.

well they tried it in gaza they left in '05 and look at where that got them more rockets fired and farther into Israel then before land for peace doesn't work |

Well, Palestinians see Israel's wish to negotiate for peace as a sign of weakness, for them, if someone is powerful he'll not wish for peace but will simply destroy his enemies. This is the reason that the more peace agreements we sign with them, the more violent they became :(
Also, they not shy about their ultimative goal - the destruction of Israel. |

Why would Israel do that? It would mean losing control of some of the holy land. |

Heritage.
More to the point the only thing stopping Fatah and Israel working out an agreement that might lead to Arabs and Jews living together in the WB is Hamas.
Why doesn't Fatah just say Gaza is not part of the deal. They just keep the process stalled.
They should make their own peace and leave Hamas to live or die on it's own.
What does Fatah want with whats left of Gaza anyway.
Get rid of Hamas and you could have one people connected. |

Because the Israeli people (not the government), want the participants to live up to the original agreement like I do:

Well it is hard now because apparently 520,00 settlers are there. I don't know if this is an accurate number. Who knows what the media will say tomorrow. If they leave, a population transfer will only solve the problem. You need to realize that the PLO has 2 struggles.
1.strive for a palestinian state
2.hopefully reunite a paestinian state with the israeli state where Jews are the large minority
This is why Israel called it a terrorist org. when it first got started.
Those settlers are a means of creating a buffer zone to "check" after possible terrorists. You never hear of stories of suicide bomb belts being found in houses. |

Real logical if you want the rockets to continue to fall from Gaza and Syria.
West bank isn't the current problem.... |
