Will Palestine and Israel ever make peace? |
It seems to me that enough is enough, why can't all involved live together in peace, ok you might not like the other side with good reasons, but surely you lot can reach some form of agreement, not land or religion or even politics but just agree to disagree, wouldn't a universal ceasefire be more appropiate, rather than all the tit for that killings.
You see there a few people in the world that like Palestine, especially to visit, what we don't like is all the political posturing. Not to say I don't like Israel, just the politics in calling another state terrorists, that's simply not true.
Anyway could both sides explain to me why a peace settlement is not possible in the current situation, and what needs to be done to restore peace in this area.
I'd like nice answers please, not rants as this is something that is close to my heart, with the loss of a friend who was just on holiday, such a waste of life. Justify her loss at your peril. |

I understand what you are saying, but you have a basic misunderstanding.
First, there is no state called Palestine. In fact, the area that once was known as Palestine was not a sovereign state. Second, whether or not you wish to call Hamas terrorists, they are first of all terrorists who murder innocent Israeli citizens. And they never stop trying to kill more, particularly by convincing the simple Muslims to kill themselves in the effort!
When the UN originally decided to give Israel a SMALL REMNANT of their original homeland, they realized that they needed a place for the Arabs that lived in there.
So THEY ALREADY DID THAT. They established Jordan (then called Trans-Jordan) for exactly this purpose.
Incidentally, they gave them the biggest chunk of land, with the best farmland, the most water, etc.
Israel (as we know it today) at that time was mostly malarial swamplands and swamps.
So, what happened next is that the Arabs started attacking the Jews, even though the Jews were more than happy to live with the Arabs. In Jordan, the Palestinians became such a pain in the behind that Jordan basically kicked them all out, (as Lebanon now wants to do, by the way).
Israel started draining the swamps and making them good farmland, and rebuilding in the slums, and turning Israel into an economic powerhouse. This caused a HUGE immigration from many Arab countries into Israel, for jobs. Most of those now calling themselves Palestinians are from these immigration waves. Yet the world pretends that any Arab that moves into the area is a descendant of antiquity, and it's just BS. Very few of the Palestinians living there, are related to any Arabs living there when the Jews were brought back to Israel. Most are immigrants, or second generation immigrants. You NEVER ever hear this. They're always assumed to be natives, and Israel the invaders.
Fast forward to now, and everyone is pretending that Jordan has nothing to do with the setting aside land for the Arabs under the original deal.
Also interesting, is that in all the negotiations, the Palestinians insist that ALL JEWS leave their land. Look at how Israel had to forcibly relocate all the Jews when they turned Gaza over to the Palestinians.
Yet the Israeli's have never stopped Palestinians from living anywhere, and there are even Palestinians in the Israeli government in ruling positions.
I'm pointing this stuff out because our left-wing media – and the anti-Semitic world in general – very conveniently leave out these facts, to make it appear that the Israelis are always the bad guys.
Also remember, that Hamas and Hisb'Allah do not recognize Israel's right even to exist, PERIOD.
How can you demand someone negotiate with someone whose basic stance is that they want all of you dead, regardless of what you do? It's just absurd.
Yes, not all Palestinians are like this, but a majority of them feel this way, as is evidenced by the fact that Hamas won so many seats in the election, and polls continually show that 80 percent of the Gazans support Hamas in their terror attacks..
Also, the Arabs and Palestinians have repeatedly attacked Israel, LONG before any of the excuses they now use for their terrorist attacks against Israel ever happened.

Historically Israel have suffered so much in their search for peace in the Middle East but have always come up against a brick wall. If others stop lobbing missiles into Israel and recognise it, I genuinely believe that there could be a peace. |

Probably not for a long time yet. You see there are many issues involved which can't be sorted out which are too profound to understand. For example there is religion, land, injustice, too much dust around, and too many people with not enough money and nothing else to do. |

Considering the current situation, it is impossible to even think about peace at least before May next year
This is because:
1- President Bush started packing his luggage preparation to go back to Texas to feed his cattle there. You seen how he gave up on the Lebanese issue and gave Hezb Allaha an easy victory last Wednesday?
2- Prime Minster Olmert is about to go to jail as almost all the evidence are pointing at him.
3- A hot summer is coming faster than expected. The Israeli mind set is tuned to a summer war
4- Hezb Allah is ready with stocks of new arms received from Iran and they want to test it on Israel.
5- Hamas, already got new ammunition and weapons and need to show that they can not be defeated. Did you hear about today's explosion? 4.5 tons of explosives at a check point near Gaza!.
Maybe if you come next May , you will find an answer for this question |

Israel is willing to make peace with legitimate Arab / Muslim states. The Arab Palestinian state is Jordan. If the Arabs want to establish a second Palestinian state in Gaza, they must do it in a peaceful way. Probably Israel and the international community would recognise a peaceful mini state in Gaza, but not a terrorist paradise. |

The Israelis refuse cease fire with hamas who are asking for cease fire. So no there will be no peace.
Actually there will never be peace as long as there are IDF and Hamas.
The Israeli military has to change their rules so that their will be peace. It is one of the worst and most violent military in the world. |

Yes, there will be peace on earth. Remember, Christ prayer: "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven?"
He was referencing the fact that there will be peace on earth. It all depends on mankind, and how soon we can all decide that war is he--.
Sorry for the loss of your friend...So sad...

well Israel was created firstly based on a biblical belief by Zionist who are European Jews supported by the western powers when they promised the Arabs that they wouldn't, and when you have the world super powers on the Israeli side and not really caring what happens to the Palestinians (it's been 60 yrs by the way) I would say if Britain can talk to the IRA why not the Palestinians,Hamas was a direct consequence of democracy, the west say they want to give them democracy yet can't stand its fruits. |

Palestine ceased to be in 1947-48.
If you are talking Arab countries, Israel has made peace with Egypt and Jordan tried making peace with Lebanon whose President was murdered by fanatics because of it. |

There would be peace tomorrow easily if the Hamas child killing terror group would give up its attacks on the children on Israel. The Hezbullah murder gang also needs to be eliminated. Then peace at last for everyone. Simple . |

i think the problem lies in the fact that both government believe the other side are heretics, and believe that their version of the bible entitles them to the land.
I think the only way to come to a peace treat if both sides become more secular. There's a very good reason why the united states included a statement about separation of church and state. I don't see this happening anytime soon. This war between nations is about land, water, and religion. It's an interesting mix of different problems.
The same thing happened in europe, look into the ramifications of the treat of westphalia. Basically that was the end of religious wars in europe. It took over 1000 to accomplish. This war between the religion of judaism, and islam has been only going on for 50+ years. We have a ways to go. |

I hope it will, but currently it doesn't seem like it.
Before there can be peace, Palestinians must be respected. While they are malnourished, homeless, and dying, of course they will hate Israel. |

Whilst both side partake in terrorist activity then no.
Isreal uses it's army as a terror force to attempt to supress the terrorism coming from the Palestinians.
So basically both sides are as bad as each other.
One side will say it's an anti-semetic war against the Jews and the other say it is a Zionist plot to destroy Islam.
Basically the same stupid argument they have had since the inception of Islam as an opposing religion to Judiasm 600 or so years ago.
Bunch of idiots the lot of them. |

everyone knows that the land is palestinian and the israelis came and told the palestinians that it's a hebrew land..
before that pals (muslims),christians & jews lived peacfuly there.. so on the political side i see that religion is an excuse..
the war shall never end as long as israelis are refusing to co-exist..
in a personal point of view, jews can live in pal among the pals and christians as jews not as they see it as their own land
this land was the centre of all religions so the jews have no right to claim it and to keep it for them selvs..
it's immoral and wrong. |

Not if Israel keeps destroying it. I fully agree with your comments, but the thing is, a peace settlement IS possible, IF concessions are made. And instead of making concessions, Israel is creating more blockades and causing more depths. |
